It's a nice mix of locals and visitors --you can go to any coffee shop and see regulars there with their dogs, and at the same time meet travelers from all over checking things out. I love people watching so either is a treat. Repeat visit last weekend because of the distillery trail. Paso Robles is becoming a destination for not only wine tasting but also locally distilled spirits like gin and vodka and whisky. All the local distillery owners and staff were knowledgeable and friendly and passionate about their craft. Where science and art meet to make deliciousness for everyone! Weather wise December was much more pleasant but we still enjoyed ourselves and the drive to and from Paso Robles was smooth and interesting--central CA is super different from SoCal!

And being totally inside with no views of anything was kind of a drag. But still 5 Stars due to the wines and the atmosphere of the inside. Deena was great and sat down and explained every wine in great detail. She even let me try the Reserve Cab which was excellent. One of the whites wasn't good at all and I had to ask for a new glass so I wouldn't taint the next sample. But you're probably not going to like them all. That's the fun part! I enjoyed learning about the Austin Hope winery and its origins. I felt like they grew in popularity quickly and threw up some barns to accommodate the crowds. For example, the bathroom wasn't well constructed as when people slammed the door shut, the walls shook. I can't imagine how the walls would shake if someone had a blowout here. Even with some of the downfalls, this was my favorite winery and I wish I could get some of the wines without joining the club. The commitment is too much and shipping is also high, so it's not worth it. The GSM was my favorite and if I ever see it somewhere, Ima get me some!

We have…read morestayed loyal to Austin Hope--even when cutting other clubs--specifically because of the service, but that era has clearly ended. We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.

They only had outdoor seating for the time we wanted to dine. Which worked out great for us. There's a heater outside so we were warm seating outside on this windy day. I think this was a better deal as the tables inside were very cramped/close together. There's just enough room to get by between tables! Out side we had a nice table and able to spread out a little. A much more comfortable option. We had a trainee waiter (Julio) and his supervisor Lalo ( I think that's his name). They had quite a list of specials the poor guy had to recite! He did a great job. The food was really good and portions were generous. We had Linguine ai muscoli di Mare e porri (withshrimp, scallops, clams and mussels) in a white wine sauce -I asked for the cream to be omitted. We also had the Orecchiette con rapine e luganega. Delicious and very generous portion We were stuffed and had to decline dessert. Definitely will come back again.

LXV is especially known for pairing wine with custom spice and flavor experiences that complement the tasting. They traditional wine tasting and a wine-and-cheese pairing experience (which I highly recommend). The cheeses are coated with the different blends of LXV's own herbs and spices, adding a unique layer of flavor to each tasting. If you enjoy cooking or simply appreciate bold, and well balanced flavors, chances are you'll leave with a few spice blends to take home along with a bottle or two of wine. I highly recommend checking them out.

Our first stop when we arrived in Paso. We've been to so many wineries, this would be one of our top 10. The spice pairing is unique but pairs so well with the wine. Buy 3 bottles to waive the fee. Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. We loved the spell and got 3 bottles of that! It's a Syrah cab blend. Has the Paso flavor that we love. It's not a vineyard, just a tasting room but worth a visit. We met the wine maker too. Friendly and attentive service. Can't wait to pop open a bottle at home soon!

We arrived on time and stood at the entrance for about 7 minutes with zero acknowledgment. Servers and bussers walked right past us, no one said a word. When the hostess finally showed up, there was no apology, just a question about our reservation. She said our table was "almost ready" since the current guests had paid, but then refused to seat us at either of two open 4 tops, saying she wanted to save them for larger parties, even though at least four other 4 tops around the room already had just two people seated at them. She offered us a drink while we waited "a few minutes." Fifteen minutes later, still no table and no drinks provided, while guests with later reservations were seated ahead of us. When we asked again, her story changed: now the original table hadn't actually paid yet. By this point it had been 25 minutes past our reservation, so we finally confronted her directly and pointed out the empty 4 tops with only two people at them. Her explanation was that those parties had reservations, and I reminded her that we had a reservation too. She reluctantly seated us after that, with no apology or acknowledgement. What made it even more frustrating was watching her, later in the evening, seat other parties of two at 4 tops without any hesitation at all. There was never any acknowledgment of the wait or any reason given for why the rules seemed to apply differently to us. It's a shame, because the food and Yuki's service were excellent and deserved a five star night. But the disorganized, inconsistent hosting at the door made the first half hour of my birthday dinner stressful instead of special. Ask for Yuki if you go, just brace yourself at the door.

My wife enjoyed the diverse food offerings and the walking in between. Make sure you wear good comfy shoes btw!!! Our tour started at 1pm and ended at 4:30pm. We met at Mama Ganache Artisan Chocolates where met the people in our group and our guide, Yule. We sampled some amazing chocolates and heard about why chocolate is so good for you in moderation. We moved onto Jaffa Cafe and had a choice of gyro, chicken, or veggies. The garlic paste, hummus, and pita bread along with the salsa bar were so delish. We then marched our way to Guiseppe's and sat outside in the back and heard about the restored building and new home for this fine Italian restaurant. Amazing. Butternut squash filled raviolis with a creamy white sauce paired with some bread and Artisan Mineral Water from Italy had us all oooing and ahhhing. We then walked alongside the creek and made our way to the Old San Luis Bbq Company and had a taste of their Santa Maria Style bbq: chicken, tri-tip, and pulled pork with some beans, bread and corn pie with a kick to it. Yule asked us if we wanted our dessert to go and we all agreed. He left and brought back some cheesecake and some blondie brownies. We were so stuffed than many put their desserts with their bbq. Yule is a very nice gentlemen from the Ukraine and he was full of info about the history of the city (of San Luis Obispo), the restaurants, the old buildings, the Mission and the food, wine, and olive oil. If you like food, walking and talking, then you will love it!!!
