One with menus and the other with the reservation list. Seated straight away, drinks ordered and delivered all within minutes. Boom. No faffing around which was spot on. We placed our orders and it wasn't long until our starters came out. The halloumi and sausage went down well, as did the calamari. I have to say that the potato kofte although tasty enough was rather dry and only like warm. Not that happy with it to be honest. The mains all then came out and were good to be fair. The mixed grills were appetising and done rather well, chicken shush was yummy and the tiger prawns were piled up high and tasty. The waitress we had was a poppet, and really rather amusing. So was all over it, and we didn't have to once try and grab attention or wait for drinks. Not that she was overbearing either, didn't notice she was there really but every thing was just spot on service wise. The decor from the first step (toilets are upstairs part from the disabled one), is really shoddy, grimy and not good. The grease on the steps you can feel underfoot, the pint has scuffs and handprints all over, chipped and dirty. They have two single toilets which both male and females can use. To that end, the toilet seat was always up and there were pee stains on the seat, so I ended up hovering over! There has been precious units in the bathroom that have drilled holes and different coloured paint. Such a shame as the first step up just lets the place down. However, in summary, in the main, good food, excellent service, ignore the decor and pee and I'll be most definitely returning. A welcome addition to the Barbican/Plymouth offerings.

I've only ever tried to go on weeknights, though my fiance said whenever he's tried to go on weekends, it's been fully booked. It's a small restaurant on two floors. The menu spans both Greek and Turkish cuisine. The wine recommendations are decent, but I recommend starting off with a glass of raki, the closest thing you're likely to find around here to a French pastis. I've had the ouzo chicken, a chef's specialty that was amazingly flavorful and that was far too much food for me to finish, as well as one of the fresh fish plates, which are simply prepared and very tasty. A note on the ouzo chicken: if you're not a huge fan of anise flavoring, fear not! The ouzo flavoring is very mild and just adds depth to the otherwise creamy tomato-spice sauce. The service was quite good and the food was very high quality. I'm happy to make this a regular dinner destination.

While this means they must be a small chain, they each feel fairly unique - since the one I ate at in Cardiff has a waterside location very different to this one on Baldwin Street in Bristol. The smell of charred meat is what probably draws a lot of customers in here initially, particularly in the summer when the doors are open onto the street - but for me it was the promise of one of my all-time favourite Turkish dishes: Imam bayildi, which translates as "the imam fainted" and is made with aubergine stuffed with onion, garlic and tomatoes. The cavern-like interior is thoughtfully decorated if a little over-the-top, with mosaics and freezes on the wall depicting scenes from ancient Turkey. The mezze selection is wonderful and tasty, and the main dishes - although a little meat-heavy - have plenty of seafood options and are equally delicious. The most disappointing aspect of Bosphorus is how quiet it often is, and reading other reviews it seems not everyone has enjoyed such a good dining experience as I did, and this could account for their lack of popularity. What's great about Turkish restaurants in general, however, is how passionate the staff tend to be about their country and cuisine. I always end up in conversation with the waiter about Turkey, finding out where they're from and which dishes they were brought up eating. The staff here are no different - very friendly and engaging, and very happy to stop for a chat.

The mixed grill plate featured a surprisingly tender piece if prime lamb chop and chicken breast, nestled in a heaps of doner meats and coleslaw. Highly recommend drenching that with their house hot sauce for that extra kick. Vegetarian? Maybe the lamb knuckle will change your mind about your misguided choice of lifestyle.

We were not disappointed. Being a novice at Turkish cuisine we opted for the set meal for 2 at £18.50 a head. We had some bread and olives to start - bread was fluffy but really nice. Then came a nice selection of cold dishes including dips, Dolmas, Humos and others we could not pronounce. Next came a selection of hot meze, holumi cheese, meatballs and others. Large portions for starters very nice and good value. This was followed by 2 large mixed grills with chicken and lamb kebabs, lamb chop, savoury meat balls stir fry veg, salad and rice ( loads and enough for another person) The waiter was genuinly friendly and explained what everythiing was. Then we had a selection of Turkish deserts strawberries and cream followed by filter or Turkish coffee. We drank the house wine which was very nice too. Everything was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. What a wonderful place to eat - great menu great service very reasonable prices - we are definately coming again. Recommended please try it - its one of the best restaurants we have been to
