First off, let me say this: we found that the service in itself was wonderful. That's the only thing that keeps this experience from being absolute terrible. Abigail, I would presume, was a nice lady with a bright smile. She took great care of us, and we were truly looking forward to our pizzas. However, the pizzas were just terrible. I didn't think it was possible for someone to make pizzas this bad, but they were. My pizza weren't properly cooked, the pizza base were simply raw and undercooked. Even so, my partner, even though his pizza weren't undercooked, found the taste, like me, not to be desired. It's simply hard to describe the taste, it was the most funny-tasting, and not in a good way, pizzas we've ever tasted. Actually, it was an excruciating experience seeing that we didn't have the heart to tell Abigail. How do you tell someone who's such a nice person that the food they're serving is that bad? We certainly couldn't. I will, however, say this: I think that the stuff they had on display looked really nice, and I do think, from reading other reviews, that they do in fact serve pretty decent food. However, they should stick to that, and not make pizzas.

We booked a table for 8 o'clock, and was seated by the window. The restaurant has an intimate and tranquil atmosphere, highlighted by the soothing music in the background. This is not a very formal restaurant, seeing that people were not formally dressed, but I would call it sort of dressy. I wouldn't come here in flip-flops and shorts. The food is absolutely fantastic. My partner found the seafood soup to be one of the best he ever tasted, and I had my "religious" moment during dessert: a brownie with salted caramel ice cream. All in all: good food and good value for money. Though rather expensive, not as expensive as expected. Would recommend this place to everyone who likes good food and a nice atmosphere to go with it.

This place proved me wrong! I've been gluten-free since March and have found the UK to be extremely friendly towards Celiacs/Coeliacs. The Orange Tree was no exception: the menu even indicated that many of its dishes were suitable for people with gluten allergies and intollerances. I told the waitress I couldn't have wheat, and she pointed out which menu items I could have and withheld croutons from my soup. My dining partner enjoyed the homemade rolls and breads, but I can't comment on them, alas. They smelled good! For an appetizer, I had the White Onion Soup with Devon Blue Gougères, which was delightfully creamy and rich. My dining partner had the Tian of Vine Tomatoes with Baby Artichokes, which arrived in a delightful tower of tasty. For the clearing course, we had the Tipsy Lemon Sorbet (with white port) and the Pink Grapefruit Sorbet. Both excellent. The main courses arrived to our delight: I had the Sweet corn Polenta with Aubergine Involtini (Grilled Sweet corn Polenta accompanied by Aubergine filled with Goats Cheese and sun-blushed Tomatoes, finished with a Red Pepper and Pine Kernel Dressing) since I'd been eating nothing but steak and chicken for the last few weeks and wanted a change of pace. I adore polenta and aubergine (eggplant for other Americans), but I'm not such a fan of goat cheese and raw red peppers. However, the goat cheese was more like brie than feta, and the peppers were cooked to perfection. The pine nuts were lovely, and the polenta was quite crisp. Said dining companion had the 'Orange Tree' Tournedos with Foie Gras ('South Devon' Fillet of Beef, pan-seared and oven roasted, topped with sautéed Foie Gras finished with a rich Madeira and Morel Mushroom Jus and White Truffle Oil). I tried a bit of the steak and the foie gras; both were rich and tender. Love at first bite. Dessert: I had the 'Orange Tree' Crème Brûlée, which was a traditional crème brûlée with vanilla bean and Grand Marnier. My dining companion, not continuing his trend of ordering dishes that started in "T" (though the Trio of 'Orange Tree' Desserts looked tasty) had the Summer Berry Pudding with Raspberries, Red Currants and Wild Strawberries accompanied by Clotted Cream and Honeycomb. Oh, how I adore you, clotted cream. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant's elegant atmosphere and the five or six other tables of rather happy older couples made it a great experience. Perhaps they should switch from elevator music to Sinatra, but all in all, it was a lovely meal and evening at the Orange Tree.

Took a while too order as we couldn't make up our minds. Ordered our drinks but the wrong water was delivered. Managed to catch attention of a different waitress who apologised and bought out the correct order. When the food was delivered portions look large but that is down to the way it was plated. The smoked bbq food had a good smoke but the ribs were cooked too quickly so they were not tender and did not come off the bone cleanly. Also had a t bone which also was not tender. I would go as far as saying that too cut it had too apply so much pressure too cut through, I now have a blister on my finger. Again another piece of meet that did not come off the bone clean at any point. To finish the meal we had the milkshakes that were huge and looked good. Taste was good but prefer them to be a thick shake. As an attempt at being a bbq and grill they are ok, just need to cook the meat so it is tender.

Nice décor inside, knowledgeable staff, and the food was pretty good too. We shared the BBQ meat plate, and whilst it was not bad, the coleslaw was too wet and the brisket was too dry - but overall a good 'American' effort... would recommend you get a 'bathroom' sign, rather than toilets :-)

I got the Vegan combo, which came with vegan egg rolls, stir fried veggies, and red curry with tofu. These were all very tasty, and in my opinion, tofu tastes better than meat in curry as it doesn't try out and become rubbery. They do close between 14:30 to 18:00 (2:30pm to 6pm), so try to come for proper meal times. Highly recommend this place.

The location on Fore Street, on the southern edge of the centre, is not the location you might expect to find a good restaurant, but it's clear on entering that a lot of thought and investment has gone into the venue. The welcome was warm and friendly but not over-familiar - and we were seated and served very quickly. The choice covers a range of familiar Thai dishes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options clearly labelled. The meat is sourced with care - ie free range and local. Staff were happy (within reason) to adjust the spiciness of dishes to suit Our food was very good - my Tom kha soup was excellent - fragrant and flavourful - and both a green curry and ginger stir-fry similarly impressed. Fish-cakes were a little disappointing but, overall, we were very happy with the dining experience. Overall, two courses with drinks came to £45. I'd be very happy to recommend it and happy to return.
