Regrettably, this restaurant is over-priced and very over-rated. My family was in Teignmouth for vacation several days, and felt very fortunate to get a reservation after reading rave reviews on this eatery. First off, the menu is limited- mainly crabs, lobster, and other shellfish, and usually only one or two types of fish to choose from. The prices are well above other restaurants in town, as we spent nearly $100 on two simple meals and drinks. Alcoholic drinks are very expensive- I paid nearly $10 on an average quality glass of wine (175 ml- small size!) which I didn't even care for (they refused me to sample it first).
The meals were ok, but nothing outstanding: my wife and child shared a fish and chips meal, which tasted good but again over-priced and the quality was nothing special (if you screw up fish and chips in England, there's gotta be something wrong with you); I got a full bucket of mussels, and two sides- the mussels were ok, but I've had fresher and better tasting ones, and the potatoes and vegetable sides were good but didn't make up for everything else wrong with this place.
As far as service, the wait was long, attentiveness and response to requests below average.
All this makes one wonder who is doing these outstanding reviews. I highly recommend when visiting Teignmouth, avoid this high-priced place and its raving reviews, and ask a local for quality seafood at a more modestly priced restaurant. read more
