It was essentially my mouth's way of protecting the area from the constant irritation, similar to how a callus forms. Unfortunately, because the growth protruded out, I would occasionally bite it while eating, which caused it to get larger. My dentist recommended having it removed before it became worse, and I'm so glad I was referred to Huntington Oral Surgery & Implant Center. Dr. Neimann was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and informative. He took the time to clearly explain the removal procedure, what to expect, and the healing process, while being completely transparent throughout. The entire staff was professional, understanding, and knowledgeable. The removal itself was quick and painless since they properly numbed the area, and my recovery was surprisingly fast. Aftercare was also very thoughtful--they sent me home with a bag of gauze (which I didn't end up needing), an ice pack (a fantastic idea since I didn't have to go get one), and chapstick. They also provided Dr. Niemann's personal mobile number in case any issues or questions arose after hours, which gave me a lot of peace of mind during recovery. Dr. Niemann took the time to explain everything using a 3D X-ray, which made me feel informed and confident going into surgery. I had all four impacted wisdom teeth removed, and the entire experience was far better than I expected. The assistants were wonderful and helped keep me calm, and the positive atmosphere (including Sabrina Carpenter playing when I sat down!) made a huge difference. What impressed me most was that Dr. Niemann personally called me the evening after my procedure to check on my recovery and made himself available if I needed anything. That level of care is rare. Usually I come in every 6 months and I fill out a reminder card which is usually sent to me ahead of my next appointment. But the past few times I have not received a card in the mail so when my appointment is due I'm not able to plan for it. Edna usually does the scheduling and working with her has gotten progressively difficult. Usually she can put me on a waiting list and call a day before to confirm, but this time she said I had to call to confirm. This is fine but I questioned why she couldn't call as usual, and she just gave a non-answer ending with "whatever". I couldn't believe the disrespect! Edna has never apologized for the inconvenience (even in the past), knowing that it's usually very difficult to reschedule. Appointments can be weeks to months out (there is only one hygienist left). Anyway I'll miss having Dr. Chu as my dentist but I won't tolerate anymore the attitude Edna has displayed toward me the past few years. Good luck

Instead, it was an 80-minute dental review that felt more like a sales consult no cleaning happened at all. I was then told the actual cleaning would take another hour, with zero warning beforehand that this would be a 2+ hour visit. I'd arranged childcare specifically for this appointment, so the lack of communication cost me real time and money. The dentists also came across as very junior recent grads with limited experience and awkward bedside manner. When I said I needed to leave, staff still tried to hold me another 20 minutes to go over pricing for recommended work. The next day, I discovered I'd been overcharged by about $300. Bottom line: Go in expecting long appointments and heavy upselling, and always get an itemized receipt before you leave.

Then the dentist came in and told me my prior dentist is no longer there. First, I heard of it. I advocated for a less aggressive approach. No one was listening except my new friend Zach! I switch the hygienist right away cause it was just another job for her and to be perfectly honest she didn't even exam my teeth herself. Be careful who you choose. The dentist who I just met was nice but I was not happy that a diagnosis was recommended without personally examining my teeth!

But after a full year with no complications whatsoever, I can very confidently say that Dr. Chan is an amazing oromaxillary surgeon. I was referred to Dr. Chan by my dentist for extraction of all 4 of my wisdom teeth. When I went to the office, the staff were very pleasant. Dr. Chan had amazing bedside manner. Many physicians and dentists can be very strict and intimidating when it comes to healthcare, and I was definitely nervous as I haven't been taking very good care of my teeth. But Dr. Chan was incredibly supportive. He was objective, told me what he needed to, and explained all the risks/benefits/alternatives in great detail. Any surgery has a potential risk of side effects and complications, and wisdom teeth extraction is no different. I had read about the most common complications of wisdom teeth extraction (e.g. dry socket, swelling, pain), and I was definitely a bit scared. But I knew, for the long term well being of my teeth, this was a necessary procedure. On the day of the procedure itself, my mom was my designated driver, as I would be under moderate sedation with Versed. The nurse who started my IV was very nice, she also put a blanket on me as I felt a bit cold in the office. Dr. Chan was very nice also. Once I got the IV push of Versed I was completely out, and then I woke up with gauze in my mouth and an ice pack wrapped around my jaw. I had no swelling, no dry socket, and minimal pain that was easily controlled with Tylenol. Some of my colleagues said it didn't even look like I had any surgery done. As someone who is on the older side to get this procedure, to recover in such a straightforward manner is just proof of Dr. Chan's technique. I would highly recommend Dr. Chan to anyone needing wisdom tooth extraction. He has great bedside manner and I had no complications from having all 4 wisdom teeth removed.
