I feel the need to update my review for Dr Anna Choe. She is retiring and has sold her practice. With that being said, I also feel she has sold her customer service and the attention to detail which drew me to consider her my go to dentist. I made an appt for my 6 month checkup 6 months ago for my mother and myself. We showed up only to find out my mother's appt had been cancelled and was never notified. This also happened to my sister. That's another story. They gave me a BS story about how they tried calling a bogus number. In the end they made it work and had Dr Choe take care of my mom. My teeth cleaning took no more than 15minutes and left feeling unsatisfied with my service. Needless to say I will NOT be coming back. read more

Dr. Anna Choe is no longer practicing and the dentist who has replaced her, Dr. Judy Chang, could not be more different. Dr. Choe was amazing and I'm heartbroken. I had two silver fillings performed in the "Belle Smile" office on two upper molars and one composite filling on the surface of a bottom tooth. I was told that silver fillings were my only option unless I wanted two crowns, that composite fillings were not strong enough to be used on the two teeth. I was also told that part of my pre-existing filling on an adjacent tooth was removed during the course of the silver filling and would need to be fixed. I was told after the fillings had been completed, and it seemed as though the removal of part of the pre-existing filling was unplanned, as Dr. Judy Chang had said "Oh no. Oh no. That's not right", as she was placing the filling. During the days that followed I experienced sustained and intense pain and discomfort when eating and during the day and through the night, which caused me to stop eating solid food and dramatically disrupted my sleep. I felt distraught and stressed. I contacted another dentist, believing that something was wrong with the dental work Judy Chang at "Belle Smile" had performed. I was told that both fillings would need to be redone, and that the pre-existing filling adjacent to my new filling was damaged and needed immediate replacement. Once the fillings were removed, decay was found beneath the filling Judy Chang at "Belle Smile" had performed less than two weeks earlier. I do not believe that this meets a basic standard of care. Three times the dentist coughed through her mask into my open mouth, inches away, stating that she "had a tickle in her throat". Even masked this sucked for me. Besides this, during a global pandemic one would expect one's dental hygienist to wear a mask - but no, only a face shield was worn and I was told that my mask was not at all effective and it was silly that people wore masks if they were only 20% effective. What?! The hygienist also regaled me with a tale of a client who believed that toothpaste for sensitive teeth was making her ill. Unprofessional to make fun of another client while cleaning my teeth. The individual at the front desk told me that a customer had expressed so much concern about the pandemic that she had cancelled an appointment, and laughed about it. Unprofessional. When asking for my dental xrays to be sent to the new dentist they blew me off and I had to follow up twice. My partner asked for his xrays and notes, they sent two bite wings, when he asked for the rest of his information they said that they didn't have anything else. DO NOT GO HERE! Update! I wrote to "Belle Smile" and Dr. Judy Chang letting them know that I was not satisfied with my dental care and asking if they would work with me to make amends, they denied working on my teeth. Good thing I paid with a credit card and kept my receipt. This place is shady as hell. read more

Had a good experience visiting recently for tooth cleaning. Robert was friendly and did a good job in the cleaning.

The staff are friendly, efficient and smart. What I really like about this place is that they never over-book so the wait time is only a few minutes for your appointments. They have a patient-centric attitude instead of greedily trying to make as much cash as humanly possibly. My deep teeth cleaning with Vilma was really good - she did a thorough job. I have recommended this spot for many of coworkers and others. One of the better dental offices in the area. HOWEVER, they do inject you with a needle to numb your mouth for deep teeth cleanings unless you ask them not to. They did it really suddenly and I'm very afraid of needles. The only thing I would say, is that they should ask if a patient is ok with needles and give them a heads up that they're about to do it. But for the next cleaning, they remembered that I hate needles and didn't inject me. read more

I have been coming to got this dentist for almost two years and I have to say I love it. I have waited to write my review, as I wanted to ensure I had enough office visits before making up my mind. Over the last two years I have had such positive experiences during each visit. I am not a fan of going to he dentist, and each visit Dr Choe has always put my mind at ease. All the dental staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The girls on the reception always remind me to validate my parking, and the dental hygienists are very thorough and do an amazing job. I normally have Cindy working on my teeth and she is fantastic. She chats away, which is a great distraction, and always gives good advice on how to improve my oral hygiene. I am a converted full time flosser now. My teeth are definitely whiter since visiting this office. Tip: Parking is validated. Enter in Alessandro Blvd to access the underground parking structure. Check in on Yelp for a new client offer (I forgot to do this my first visit). New clients get a cute coffee cup with toothbrush, floss and toothpaste. Dr. Anna Choe is AMAZING!!!!!! I saw her as a new patient last week to have my teeth cleaned and a composite filling redone from my previous dentist who messed up the color. She was so nice and answered all of my questions during the cleaning and then scheduled me to come in the following week for the composite filling work. I was literally in and out in less than 20 minutes for the cosmetic work today and it looks flawless. I really appreciated that she never pressured me into trying to do work that she didn't feel was necessary - my previous dentist was all about the $$ so he would always recommend I do more. She is very honest and truly assesses based on what she thinks will be best for you. Her staff is friendly and it's so easy to book an appointment online. First of all, this review is not for Dr. Choe. She has been my dentist for about 2 years and she's the best. The thing that I love most about her is that she truly has her patients' best interest at heart and will never suggest procedures/treatments that are unnecessary. She is not about the money and I truly appreciate that. Just recently I was seen by a different dentist because Dr. Choe is retiring. His name is Dr. Remy Zaifman (yes, I am using his full name because you all need to know who you should stay away from). So I had my routine cleaning last month and the hygienist said that I have a pinpoint cavity on the buccal (cheek side) of my lower left second molar. To confirm the location I asked the hygienist if it is a class V or class I because I wanted to know where I needed the filling. (And btw, I am a dentist in the Philippines so I know the terminologies). When Dr. Zaifman came in to see me, we discussed my failed root canal and told him I wanted to get an implant. He asked why I did not get it sooner and I told him that Dr. Choe advised me to wait for a year after giving birth for my body to heal completely. Dr. Zaifman raised one eyebrow and said in a nasty tone, "I have NEVER heard of that before". I thought to myself, wow, how unethical of him to speak that way about a colleague but I brushed it off. I told him that I think my bite has changed and now my upper and lower anterior teeth are touching. I asked if it would be possible to get orthodontic treatment to raise my bite (so that the anteriors won't touch). He said it won't help much and he proceeded to do my filling. While he was drilling I noticed that he was working on a different tooth surface than what the hygienist told me! Instead of the pinpoint cavity that I had, he had drilled a hole on the occlusal (biting) surface of my molar. HE DID THE WRONG FILLING AND I HAD TO PAY THEM $50 FOR COPAY. WOW. I questioned him about it and he just said that the hygienist made a mistake. I thought that was the case so although I was suspicious, I brushed it off. After the filling was done, I checked my bite and it was really high. He said that he left it high on purpose and it's because I wanted to raise my bite. HE SAID IT'S A SELF-GRINDING FILLING. Being out of practice for so long, I thought that there really is such a thing now. I asked my dentist friend who is practicing in San Francisco and her response was, "There is no such thing. That dentist is just lazy. Your bite should always be comfortable after a filling and the dentist should ALWAYS grind it according to the contours of your tooth". I also told him that I think if he is going to raise my bite he should do it with both sides, because doing it on just one will likely create trauma on the tooth and surrounding tissues. It could also cause inflammation and headache. And you know what, I was right. The next day my cheek area started to feel uncomfortable and I started to get a headache. At this point I was really mad but at the same time I did not want to go back to the same clinic to have it fixed. I decided to still call to complain and hoped to be seen by Dr. Choe. I also told them that I checked the integrity of the filling and it had a catch on it, which means that it is not smooth and would likely trap food i and cause more decay. So Dr. Zaifman DID AN UNNCECESSARY FILLING ON MY TOOTH AND DID A HORRIBLE JOB. He drilled a sound tooth structure (mind you, without any decay) and did a horrible job filling it. Dr Choe confirmed that there were indeed catches (holes) in the filling and she re-did the entire thing. Yup, Dr. Choe removed the filling done by Dr. Zaifman and filled it again. And oh, she also filled the pinpoint cavity that the hygienist found during my routine cleaning, THE ONE THAT DR. ZAIFMAN WAS SUPPOSED TO FILL, THE ONE WITH THE ACTUAL DECAY. I was lucky that I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Choe and she was able to fix the mess that Dr. Zaifman created. After my treatment I noticed that almost all the employees there are new and I asked where the old employees were. They all quit and I assumed it's because their loyalty is with Dr. Choe and since she is retiring, they don't want to work there anymore. If you still want to go to this place, please ask to be seen by Dr. Choe and if she can't see you, please PLEASE go to another dental clinic. The other dentist, Dr. Chang is also not good according to my husband. It's so bad that Dr. Choe's practice is now being handled by unworthy dentists. I had hoped that Dr. Choe's clinic will continue to be successful but it really looks like it's about to go down. Please save yourself from trouble and look for a competent dentist somewhere else. read more

There is a slight premium you pay for going here - teeth cleanings are maybe $10-15 higher than other places I've been to. And they don't validate parking, so figure an extra $3. But they did fillings and caps and were better. And their teeth cleaning - especially Mink! - is really thorough. And they know what they're doing. First time here and came in based on the reviews, plus she's on my provider's network of preferred dentists. Given, i'm not fond of any dentists' office andddddd I still gave her 5 stars lol. STAFF: They are all extremely nice. I was greeted by Monica with a smile and very thorough at explaining everything before being seen. Jocelyn, was super nice. I guess she noticed I was a bit nervous and just started making small talk with me. Within the next few minutes I was relaxed and talking about life and weekend plans. She was amazing and definitely made me feel I was in good hands. Dr Choe, what a nice lady! She was just very warm, inviting and honest. Not to mention she is very very veryyyyyy detailed in her work. She found a small stain on my front tooth that had been bugging me forever and no other dentist ever mentioned it. She advised she could try a filling, but then she suggested we wait and see how it went after she thoroughly cleaned it. She didn't try to sell me anything crazy of give me procedures I didn't need. One of the best dentist I have ever been to and I have been to multiple in the many years I have lived with a full set of teeth. My teeth are bright and my pockets are still full. I came here when I use to pay out of pocket for my dentist and Anna has been very fair and accommodating and honest. Even the hygienist that works for here gave was very informative. Even when I have full coverage now, I do not feel like I was being gouge out of all my insurance money. Although, my fiancé has had some troubles with the receptionist having odd calculations but otherwise in the end they fixed the issues on the next visit. The pros, clean friendly environment and all the hygienist that has "serviced" my teeth has been thorough and informative. In addition, they will tell you like how it is, "floss more!" Also, they do have Saturday appointments. The cons, it's the dentist, this place will cost money if you want that smile. Other than that, the only con I could think of at the moment, is that lunch time for the entire office is 12pm to 1pm, so you cannot really get an appointment during that time if you only can do lunch time. read more

I would have previously rated Dr. Choe 5 stars. I went to her for years, as did my husband. Always amazing. She retired and sold the practice without informing patients. I showed up and with no notice, or communication, a different dentist was assigned. Very uncomfortable with that. As I was pregnant during the first visit with them, I couldn't do x-rays, so I came back later as I was having some issues. The dentist was friendly and straightforward, said I needed a ton of work (now I'm not so sure it was necessary.) She did cavities during two different appointments. During the second one, she messed up my teeth so badly - after the numbness wore off I could feel incredibly sharp edges, and the teeth didn't (and still don't months later) feel like normal teeth. I get food stuck there all the time as well, which could lead to future cavities. They fixed the sharp edges the next day, but it's still traumatic to feel how unlike teeth my teeth feel to this day. I unfortunately had a horrible experience here. The first tim I went it was fine. I found out I needed two root canals so she referred me to someone and I came back to get the crowns. First I have to get the cap while waiting for the crown to be made. When the cap was put on, it didn't feel right and i told her... She got mad at me for not biting down hard enough and kind of snapped at me. I already hate getting work done on my teeth so I was upset and literally cried when I left that day. Then when my crowns came like sure they looked great but didn't feel right so I went to a different dentist and they told me she didn't seal it properly. I was VERY mad because I paid out of pocket which is thousands for my crowns. I went back to her after that and told her I went to a different dentist and what they said. She checked and promised me there was nothing wrong with the crown. This happened a couple years ago and now every month or so my crown starts to bother me. I went to TWO other dentist so 3 total that have told me the same thing- your tooth isn't sealed properly. I just had a baby and I can't afford to get a new crown. I'm so upset because it now hurts everyday. Also they said I owed them $84 after paying thousands out of pocket years later. So surprised at all the positive reviews. Good for her I guess! read more

It's no secret why most people hate going to the dentist: oh, you might think you're going in for just a cleaning, but an hour and a half later you awake to blinding facial pain, groggily remember agreeing to a procedure needed to "save your jaw from disintegrating," can't locate your watch and wonder why your underwear are on backwards. Just when the trauma subsides (two weeks later), you get a bill for $4k and an appointment reminder that it's time for your next cleaning. But after not seeing a dentist for several years, the fear that my jaw just might disintegrate became greater than the all of the past memories stored in the dental-specific region of my amygdala, and I made an appointment. And as you probably surmised from the 5 stars above, my experience with Dr. Choe was not at all unpleasant, traumatic or regretful! If I could give her six (or seven or eight) stars I would. She is a perfect dentist: intelligent, efficient, thorough, honest, trustworthy and a genuinely warm human being. Her assistant and the receptionist were also a pleasure to meet, the office was new and modern, there was parking right outside (ok, for a motorcycle) and I walked out with as many tooth-care products I could stuff into my jacket. For the first time ever, I walked out owing $0 AND received an itemized quote for what my after-insurance costs would be for the work she'll be doing next visit. No more waiting for that dreaded mystery medical bill that arrives weeks later for 3x the amount you expected! You simply will not find a better dentist anywhere. I've had my fair share of dentist experiences from an early age. The most horrific experience stemming from my years using the USC dental school students for tooth care (didn't have much money for this stuff in high school). But hey, root canal for $100...can't beat that until they drill too far and cause an infection in the gums. Anyway, fast forward to the present and moving to a new location. I get my teeth cleaned every year and I'm pretty diligent about my teeth since I've spent so much money on my pearly whites already. Had to find a new dentist and after a quick review of yelp and my insurance coverage, I stumbled upon Dr Choe. The reception is nice and hassle free. Got placed in my dentist chair and was expecting a dental hygienist to do all the work for my tooth checkup and cleaning but was surprised that Dr. Choe handled all the cleaning herself. She's very nice and personable and does a thorough job. The facility is very new and they take advantage of all the newest technologies and equipment. When I asked about the cost of getting one of my old amalgam fillings swapped out with a composite, they quoted me an upfront cost after insurance coverage on the spot with a printed breakdown. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the facilities, the service and their upfront quoting of procedures. I had a horrible toothache. I mentioned it to my dentist (who is actually a replacement for my dentist because my ACTUAL dentist is in Washington DC advancing his education for his practice), and the replacement dentist said it was just some recession and I needed to use SENSODYNE. After two days of sensodyne, it senso SUCKED. Lol. I was at work on a Friday night (I'm a nurse) in pain, finding myself walking to the CVS during my break to buy orajel for the tooth that was causing me pain. The next morning was a Saturday morning which most dentists offices are not open. Mine definitely was not. And my dentist isn't going to be back for 2 years anyway. so TIME TO FIND A NEW DENTIST! AND THANK GOD I DID!! I found Dr CHOE on yelp. Her staff took me in and were very pleasant. They explained what they were doing. After looking at my tooth, and noticing that the gum around the tooth was irritated, it was explained to me that it wasn't just recession. I may need a root canal. Dr Choe fixed my bite which actually has helped significantly, prescribed me 5 days of antibiotics, and scheduled a follow up appointment to figure out whether or not the pain and irritation of the gum has subsided. Dr CHOE is amazing. And her staff didn't try to upsell me anything like other dentists office have tried. Plus, I received a free cup with toothpaste and toothbrush! WOOT WOOT! Wow, what can I say? I had a great experience with Dr. Choe. Her front office staff are super helpful and friendly. First time you go, you get a cute welcome mug with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. Everything is digital, and you are able to see the pictures of your teeth while Dr. Choe explains what she finds. I also have never had the dentist do the actual cleaning, which she did. The hygienist helped during the cleaning, and then did the polishing. Dr. Choe also did a very thorough examination of each tooth, and recorded the findings. I told her certain things previous dentists had told me, including needing a gum transplant (?!), and she told me that was ridiculous and there was nothing wrong with my gums. She did not try to upsell any services or products, but just informed me of some options and told me I could let he know if I wanted anything else done. I was a patient of Dr. Choe for almost 5 years. She was always professional and caring. Over this time I referred 2 friends to Dr. Choe. In November Dr. Choe advised me that she would be working fewer hours. In April I called to schedule a cleaning and after the appointment was cancelled and rescheduled twice by the office, my appointment was on May 20th. While the dentist and hygenist were quite nice the front desk staff are lacking customer service skills, especially Yassenth who appears to take pride in being rude. I will not be returning to this practice now that Dr. Choe is no longer available to care for her patients. I did not have good experience with dentists so when I went to see Dr. Choe, there was very little expectation on my part. To my surprise, she was extremely pleasant, caring and knowledgeable. She took time to answer all my anxiety-filled questions, gave me options, and explained exactly what to expect. The whole process was so predictable and "painless." I love this office! I have some dentist anxiety after having an accident ages ago and subsequent dental treatment for a year for jaw damage, plus it is still hard to keep my mouth open for long. (Thanks TMJ). A friend referred me here a few years ago and I have not looked back! The office is very warm and bright, clean looking. I have never waited beyond appointment time, they're very punctual! The hygienists I've had have all been so warm and engaging, really pleasant! The office staff is nice and helpful. And Dr. Choe is great!! If you have pain, they'll squeeze you in ASAP, same day sometimes! Dr. Choe herself takes time to assess your pain, connect with you, etc. She does not push any cosmetic dentistry on you, despite that being her specialty, but if you ask, she is great about knowing the options and finding out what your insurance covers! One time I needed a somewhat painful treatment and I was shocked when Dr. Choe herself called me the next day to check on me! She is so warm and thoughtful. They also see children, she sent home gift mugs for my kids with toothbrushes, despite the fact they have their own dentist, lol. I can not recommend this office enough! Parking in found on the street if you don't mind walking a little. It is also in the underground structure on Allesandro. It is not free, but it is cheap. (They no longer validate). I have been looking for a great dentist for about 6 years now. Inevitably either overselling, poor advice or poor customer services would make me look for another dentist. Dr. Choe's office has finally changed all this. The office is warm and inviting. The staff laugh, joke and seem to be enjoying themselves more or less so. It feels like a good normal place to be and not a stiff, superficial dental office. Generally people laughing and being themselves is a great sign. Dr. Choe herself is calm, warm, knowledgeable and does NOT oversell. She did the first cleaning herself and was fantastic - no pain from jabbing the gums as I've experienced in the past. She also took time to talk through all the issues with my teeth - and was conservative in recommending treatment (distinguishing what's urgent and what is not). She caught a chipped filling that has been causing issues that I didn't know about and fixed it in 20 minutes. Most importantly (to me) I feel that I can ask questions here and get answers. I like to know what's being done. Dr. Choe is very natural as a care giver, and seems to appreciate that doctors are there to help folks make informed decisions and to understand their alternatives, rather than selling unnecessary procedures. I went to this woman because of Yelp. My mistake. She doesn't know anything about old-fashioned dentistry. I showed her my dental x-rays from the McCormack x-ray shop on Rosemead. Dr. Choe said she didn't have a light box in her fancy office to view them. (Apparently, she didn't have windows in her office either...) She worked on my upper left quadrant incisor for an inlay filling. She drilled it, then offered to fill it with her "light bonding" resin. But first she offered me some extra "stickum." When I asked what was in it, she said it included fluoride. I declined. So, she put in her resin. And 30 days later it failed. It broke in half. The filling left an open margin, a bad contour fit, and it was sensitive to air and further inflammation. (This is what my real dentist said when he had to fix it.) The little resins and light she used just weren't strong enough, or she didn't get it dry enough to hold. The visit was a total waste of money. I'd have contacted Dr. Choe's office before writing this review. But she had no contact information on her fancy website, so I couldn't. Her office may be ok for simple teeth cleaning... read more

Dr. Choe was called from our car as we were driving from Palm Springs to Pasadena to spend Easter with our daughter. We needed a dentist because my husband had a crown fall out of his mouth. We called at 3 pm and asked if she could see us. Even though the office had just closed for the holiday weekend, Dr. Choe and her assistant waited for us to get there, saw my husband and fixed his problem. Like most, I'm petrified of seeing a dentist. However, I had no choice because I knew something was up! I first met Cindy (Hygienist) and she was spectacular! Completely put me at ease an walked me through the cleaning process. She consistently asked if I was okay which I truly appreciated. After my cleaning Dr. Choe examined and reviewed my X-rays with me. I had multiple cavities and one in particular that needed immediate attention because it was close to the root. Today I had my first visit to Dr. Choe, and it was a wonderful experience. Cindy, the hygienist, did an excellent and thorough job cleaning up my teeth with very little pain. She was very friendly and kept me at ease through the whole process. Dr. Choe came in at the end and was very personable and professional throughout. Dr. Judy Chang is great, She was caring, knowledgeable, fast and efficient, she removed a tooth that was infected all the way to the root(caused by a really bad dentist) and had to do a bone graph due to the infection. Pretty big procedure so I was really nervous. But Dr Chang was very comforting and reassuring. Anyways Afterwards I was prepare for major pain but surprisingly I only needed 2 Advils, WOW. Very pleased with Dr. Choe. I've seen her twice - once for an emergency, and then again for a cleaning/checkup. She's very clear and thorough; the office is clean and modern. I liked especially that she really seems to be there for the dental health of the patient, and not - as is the case with so many other dentists these days - simple to see the teeth as a profit center. I had a couple of minor problems, and each time, she recommended the most minimal and cost-free means of solving them. Validated parking is nice, too. I am traveling in L.A. at the moment from the Bay Area. I lost a filling and needed to get it replaced on short notice. I left an email for Dr. Choe's office late Thursday night and got a call first thing in the morning and was in and out of the office before the morning was out. I saw another dentist because I had some tooth pain, which turned out to be an abscess. He did a root canal for $2200 and wanted to do another $10,000 worth of work, including removing another tooth next to the one that needed the root canal (then I would have needed an implant or a bridge); lasers; I don't know what all. All had to be done pretty much at once too, within 3-4 months. I couldn't afford it, so I went to Dr. Choe for a second opinion. Her opinion was that that tooth didn't need to come out, and I didn't need all that other stuff. Deep cleaning, yes; a couple small fillings, yes, and some counselling on oral hygiene. Total cost around $1300. So I saved $9000 if you want to look at it that way. I guess that her prices are reasonable or standard; his were kind of high, but the main difference was he wanted to do everything he could think of, and she just wants to do what I need. Dr. Choe is very experienced; she worked somewhere else for 20 years, and is opening her own practice now that her kids are grown. I've found her to be very competent, very pleasant, honest, and genuinely concerned. After the deep cleaning, she called me up the next day to make sure I hadn't had any problems with the anesthesia. I don't recall any dentist ever doing that before. I'll keep going to her, and I recommend her without reservation. read more
