I'm certain that must be a rarity because these girls were on top of things. Everyone was so kind during the booking and checking in. The vibes were so cute. Cassidy surpassed my expectations. DeShawna Briscoe was highly recommended by a friend and my first appointment was nothing short of perfect at Mixed Roots. The salon is conveniently located in the Creedmoor Rd Shopping Plaza near Bada Wings. I am familiar with the location, as it was home to another local salon I was a client of who rented the property years ago. Upon entering the Mixed Roots salon, I felt right at home. The salon is not rowdy and offers a clean and visually pleasing aesthetic. The volume of the music and playlist selection was perfect for a relaxing Sunday. DeShawna welcomed me warmly and there was not a long wait to begin my service. The other stylist sharing the salon floor was professional as well and managed her clients well. Deshawna exceeded my expectations the first visit. I booked a Silk Press & Trim. I really enjoyed how meticulous and how gentle DeShawna was with my natural curls. This appointment was a breath of fresh air. From the Shampoo to the final reveal. Many stylists have struggled to detangle and complete a blowout for me, leading to further damage. DeShawna has blessed hands and my silk press seemed effortless to her. The haircut is beautiful, and she styled my hair perfectly without me having to guide her. She just gets me. She is personable and I enjoyed time spent in the chair being educated and getting to know one another. This is the first time I've left the salon and my hair did not smell like a barbecue grill. My hair feels good and hydrated. I look forward to my hair journey with DeShawna.

I have always scheduled with Claire- she has taken me all over the cut and color spectrum and now keepsmy long layers like I like them, with lots of ombré highlights (which I am loving so much). I'll post a pic to yelp. Side note- My stylist (aforementioned Claire Ashby) is a jeweler/metalsmith and I've recently fallen hard for her stuff. Rocks, copper, sterling, enamel...love it.

Claire has been cutting and coloring my hair for 4-5 years now. First of all, I just like her, and…read moreshe's definitely become a friend over the time she's been cutting my hair. She's been around Raleigh a long time, so she knows what's going on and is just a cool person. As a hairdresser, she knows what to do with my hair. I have wavy/curly fine yet very thick hair. It's a dark ash blonde naturally, and in the past year, I'm starting to get more grey. She is great with curls. In fact, I probably have 10-15 friends with curly hair who also go to Claire because of her reputation for knowing what to do with curly hair. I have her cut it so I don't have to do much to it afterwards. Claire also knows how to color my hair. She's very flexible about what I need. If I tell her I'm broke, so it needs to last a while, she does more fine subtle highlights. If I'm able to come in more regularly, she can really make it pop (if that's what I want). I've learned that she is more conservative with how she cuts. So she'll never go in and assume you want any more cut than you've said. In fact, I've had to say, "Go ahead! Be more drastic!" Honestly, this is such a better a problem than the opposite, and I really appreciate that. Too much cut when that's not what you want can be a scary thing. That will never happen with Claire. The studio is on a quiet little bend in a street in Boylan Heights. It's a very relaxing place to sit and chat while you have your hair done. I imagine I'll be going to see Claire at Boylan Heights as long as it's possible. BTW, I know some non-curly folks who go to Claire, too. She can do that, but curls are her specialty.

Typical there isn't a receptionist at the front desk but there is a nice waiting area. Usually a stylist comes out and greets you then asks who you are there to see. As an added bonus, there is ample parking, which can be a rarity for places downtown/in Five Points. Everyone was so welcoming. The owner, Chuck took time to introduce himself, as did the salon manager, Kim. It's clear from the aesthetics and their personal approach they're focused on creating a superior salon experience for their clients. My amazing stylist, Rachel just moved here (from Primp Salonbar). She's been coloring/cutting my hair every six weeks or so for over three years now, and I can't recommend her highly enough. She's helped me change up my color several times. She shows the perfect balance between interpreting what I want and giving me suggestions to consider. Before I started going to her, I bounced around to salons/stylists aimlessly for years and always felt a little lost/hesitant trying to describe what I was looking for, hoping for the best, and meeting with mixed results. Having a trusted stylist like Rachel is invaluable, and she's always surpassed my expectations. She makes me feel comfortable asking questions/for her input and confident in trying new things - knowing I can trust her for amazing results. I've recommended her to several of my friends and family members (my husband and mother-in-law are now both regulars) and everyone I've sent her way has loved her too!
