I wish there is a zero for customer service. Not sure if the cashier is the owner but similar to other posts she is absolutely rude. A tip - work on the attitude, you should not be screaming at your customers especially if these are paying. You yelled at a person in front of me and then me. You yelled at me for not knowing where the basket goes and then for a bag you even forgot to charge. I bought over $35 in items and I told her I would need a bag which I was ok paying for it. She forgot to add the bag - I guess because she was talking to her employee. Unfortunately, I had no cash and she said she was not going to charge my credit card as the minimum was $10 and her ripped plastic bag was 50 cents. Not even 5 cents - it was 50. While she put all my 13 items in the bag she kept yelling at me. I'm sure she did not become poor for not charging me for the bag. I like to support small businesses but I will definitely not support this place anymore. One more tip - respect is earned. You never know if someone is having a hard day. Clients are also earned. The lady at the register is the rudest most disgusting person ever. She yelled and startled my child for approaching a toy without realizing I was right there. Besides the fact that most of the items in this store are either fake, extremely poor quality, or overpriced I would avoid buying anything from here for that attitude alone. Someone needs to tell this woman that her business revolves around children and if you're scaring them to death at the door you probably shouldn't have this kind of business. I'm so surprised by all the negative reviews because I LOVE this store!! Maybe it's because I've never really had to interact with the workers. I go in and get what I need- every single time. Come here for the cheap (but nice) cards and wrapping paper but don't expect much in the forms of customer service. If you have social anxiety and the idea of interacting with another human scares you to death than this might be the place for you. Politely asked questions about some balloons and I swear the older lady at the cash register gave me the nastiest attitude, like I was asking to have a free handout or something. Nasty rude lady in the front register. I bought an item for $1 and she charged me tax and it was $1.08. So I wanted to help her and purchase another item under 92 cents so she wouldn't have to give me so much change back. She ignored me when I asked what's under a $1. She then proceeded to yell at me to hurry up. I told her to relax and not yell at me which she continued to mumble under her breathe. Party R Us is the only dollar store I know of in Forest Hills conveniently located on Austin Street in the middle of the busy block. I've been here on multiple occasions to buy shampoo, candles, bathroom mats, toilet cleaner, and other miscellaneous household products for a fraction of Duane Reade prices. I've been satisfied with every purchase except for one time. Once I purchased a shower head that was defective. The water squirted through the shower head openings where the parts are connected. So I went back to the store to return it however the store policy is 'No returns'. Only exchanges or receive store credit. I understand. This is a privately owned business. Other than no refunds, the store is great in terms of selection and prices. You'll find great deals on school supplies, birthday merchandise, holiday items (Christmas, Valentines, etc.), and other useful goods. Just remember to avoid the shower heads! read more

I am all for supporting local businesses. The problem becomes when a business only cares about money and does not reciprocate in any way to the loyal customers who support them. The lady, who I assume owns this business, was extremely rude. I looked around for matches but could not find them so I went up to the front to ask her where I could find matches. She rudlely pointed at the back of the store yelling "back! back!" I was like fine I know she's being rude but I'll try looking for them again. They were no where to be found so I asked her again hoping maybe she would be more specific and she started yelling "aisle two! aidle two!," while jabbing her finger at aisle two. I took a look all over aisle two but could not find it. The lady then decided to step out in view of me and arrange items. I asked her if she could help me find where the matches were but she just stared at me like I was inconveniencing her. At that point I just gave up and left. As I left I told her I could no longer support her business and would not be coming back. She then started yelling at me in front of my little boy and screamed "f@ck you!" Well that left a bad taste in my mouth. It is beyond me how anyone who depends on this community for their money and support could be so rude and indifferent. They are in dire need of a reality check and everyone who walks into that store should ask themselves if they want to support this kind of business. Customer service does not exist here. The woman behind the counter spoke limited English and anything you ask her for, she repeats it and then looks as if I ask to purchase a live baby' with 2 heads. There is a young man sitting in a corner who works there, but he is more interested in his cell phone than working. He seemed annoyed to have to get up to show me where the picture frames were. No smiles in this "Party R Us" place. Just some sour faces and they could care less about your business. Such a shame to have owners like this in our neighborhood. Party R Us opened up not long ago and it pretty much a variety store. They sell almost everything. It's not just a party store. They have school supplies, home and kitchen stuff, and a whole bunch of other home utility accessories. I bought a few wash buckets from Party R Us and they worked out great. Reasonable size for a reasonable price compared to places like Target. I also looked at some their gift wraps and didn't like any of them. It's not that they were bad, they just have a lack of variety for gift wraps. A majority of them were children's or birthday gift wraps. I was looking for something of a solid color or wedding theme gift wrap. The owners here are Chinese and they always seem friendly and helpful. read more

I have to agree with the other negative reviews. Staff especially the older woman is very rude when you have a child with you. I was going to buy toys for my son when I was very rudely told repeatedly to watch out for my kid ( which I diligently was). I wanted to see what toys he wanted so I encouraged him to look for stuff. The merchandise is not very good quality. I returned an item about two hours after I bought it, with the packaging and receipt since it did not work and the two women working said they wouldn't return it or give me store credit since it was opened. I said I didn't know if it was broken until I opened it and tried to use it. They showed me the sign that said opened items will not be returned. I told them I wasn't leaving until they let me exchange it for another item that was similar. They kept talking behind my back in a foreign language and gave in when they realized I was assertively not leaving. I went and got the similar item to exchange it at that point. They said you can't return this. I said if it doesn't work, I will be returning it. At that point they refused to sell me the item and gave me back the cash for the first item. We had a heated exchange about how horrible their customer service was and how the merchandise was cheap. I will never shop their again. I'm sure we are all better for that decision. read more
