I was initially reluctant to use a wedding/event planner for several reasons - wanting to save money, being fairly crafty/creative myself and having confidence in handling on my own details in pursuing something less "traditional", and being pretty resourceful. Shortly into the planning process, I realized it was going to be harder than I thought. I then met Mandi Buckland of Element Design. What sealed the deal was her calm energy and diversity in events she's worked on (weddings, parties, festivals, including "green" fests/events). She was great in identifying several unique wedding location options in Southwest and Southern MI, including a fabulous barn, a garden, and a super cool lodge (we ended up at a mansion in Holland). When I asked her to design the invitations with a "modern art nouveau theme" using a peacock to match the theme of a mansion built in the early 1900s (not easy!) - she provided several fabulous sample designs within a short period of time. Our final invitations were really unique and fun! After our invites went out, I received an unexpected amount of of great feedback ("I love your invitations!" "They are so unique," etc.) and I could tell they made people look forward to the wedding. I felt like Mandi figured out my sense of my style quickly, and she was able to identify options that fit that were creative, cost-conscious (extra plus) and didn't compromise on quality. At the same time she was working with me, she was helping a friend design invitations for a wedding at the Drake Hotel in Chicago, so her range of work can be simple, arty/less traditional, to more traditional/upscale. Pretty impressive! To start with: I was hooked on Debbie during our first conversations. Unlike other wedding planners I spoke with, she did not immediately push me on her packages and get me to sign a contract. Instead she spent two hours on the phone with me listening to our day and the issues we had run into so far planning. She immediately jumped in and worked with me trying to find solutions to these initial problems. I actually felt like she cared about our day and was going to work hard to make it perfect. That's when we chose her and over the year we planned together, we never regretted the decision. My husband and I had a complicated wedding day. We had 200 guests and had two ceremonies (Hindu and Christian) at two locations with a luncheon and evening reception. All in one day! It was logistically very complicated. In addition, Debbie had never planned an Indian wedding (which she was up front about during our initial conversations). While we definitely needed to both do our homework throughout the year, Debbie did an amazing job all year researching Hindu traditions and actually coming to us with ideas for vendors. She is unbelievably organized and meticulous which is definitely why our crazy day went so perfectly. We weren't sure if we could truly pull off our tight timeframe for the day but we did almost to the minute! Our guests definitely noticed how smooth the whole day was and appreciated it! We have received so many compliments about our wedding day from both of our families and friends. We were able to honor both sides and traditions and make the long day fun for them. Much of this success is due to Debbie. Debbie is also just truly a pleasure to work with. Her husband, Mike, and her are just "good people" that make it fun to spend hours throughout the year on the phone discussing what can be mundane details of a wedding day, checking out vendors, etc. She led us repeatedly to vendors that were similar - she tried to use smaller and locally owned vendors when possible. We were so happy with everyone she introduced us to and loved supporting local. One of the most telling signs of what Debbie meant to me is probably how I felt that week before the wedding. We used Debbie for Day of Planning, as well as having her assist us with the rehearsal the night before. We had several phone calls in the months leading up to the event. It was so helpful that she always had a list of things that I needed to accomplish before our next call. I had so many other things going on it was difficult to stay on task. Debbie took the time to meet with me and my family during one trip to Michigan and was able to meet with me again when I returned three weeks before. She was so kind to all of my family members, after our first meeting they all commented on how organized she was. In the weeks leading up to the wedding Debbie offered her assistance with all the last minute details, she even offered to help me out if my family was starting to drive me nuts. Before the events she confirmed all vendor appointments and even worked out a few kinks we had in the scheduling. I was able to drop all of the little details for the wedding to her in advance so I would not have to worry about the little things like table numbers and seating charts. The day of our wedding Debbie and her team were so helpful, everything was seamless, she took charge of the ceremony, because the venue did not have an onsite coordinator. Absolutely Unacceptable - DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!…read more If I could give Knockerball Michigan zero stars, I would. They completely ruined my son's 11th birthday party by canceling with only 16 hours' notice--after weeks of planning and excitement. We had 10 kids ready to go, and at the last minute, they just bailed on us. The owner didn't even call, he just sent a TEXT at 8pm on a Saturday night that said the employee who was supposed to run the party was injured and he couldn't find anyone else to run the party. I'm not sure how an establishment like this doesn't have a back up plan for these circumstances. There was no attempt to make it right, just a "sorry, we can't do it" and you can have a refund or rebook for a discount. The refund took days to get to me and ZERO dates or suggestions were given for rebooking. The lack of professionalism is astounding. How do you run a business like this? A children's birthday party is not something you just cancel on a whim. We were left scrambling to come up with a backup plan, and let me tell you, finding something - anything - with that little time was near impossible. Save yourself the headache and book with a company that actually values their customers. Knockerball Michigan clearly doesn't care about reliability, professionalism, or doing the right thing. Avoid at all costs.

Although I never actually participated, it was hilarious to watch. One of the staff gathered all the kids together and explained the rules and how they would play about 3-5 games in the time span of 2 hours with breaks. At the very end she let me just have a free roam. I was almost on the floor laughing. Kids were being bounced all over the place, doing all types of flips, kicks, tricks and rolls. After about 35 minutes I could tell they were exhausted!!! I was almost as tired from laughing. Unfortunately being as I was invited myself, I don't have the exact prices for the event, but I would call or go on their website. Overall I enjoyed watching and think it's really unique idea. When the staff was alerted that there was also no working soap dispensers in the men's room, rather than go and check, they argued and told us we were wrong. The inflatable throne in our party room was also disgusting and looked like it probably hadn't ever been wiped down with any sort of cleaning solution.
