I brought a friend from couchsurfing who'd been travelling through Brisbane for an activity that was fun and out of the ordinary. The walls were covered in futuristic paintings that looked like they'd been done back in the '80s and made me feel right at home. (I grew up in the 'burbs.) On the night we played, there were two separate birthday parties happening simultaneously, i.e. it was pure chaos. The staff there seemed to handle it very well, though, and were very helpful to us first timers. After we signed up, we received neat name tags with our laserforce identities that could be kept for future games. There's a clean, open area for adults to relax, as well as an arcade area for kids who are still hyped up on adrenaline and sugar. The actual laser force is the bomb. Sure, you're wearing sweaty helmets that stink of hormones and you're versing pre teens who will slaughter you the moment you hit the floor, but there's real joy in running around a giant warehouse shooting invisible lasers at each other. Come to Laserforce if you're looking to find your inner child, or if like me, you are actually still a child.

I'm sure most everyones familiar with the concept of the game, but for those people not in the know (You sad sad humans) the premise is relatively simple. You are on a mission to kill or disarm as many baddies on the other team as you can. Cast all loyalties aside and watch the competitive natures come out in your friends or familia. (Coupled with an over blown lazer pointer cased in a plastic gun.) If you have kids DO make sure to introduce them to the lazer show on a saturday the place on weekends is heaving with kids and they will make a bunch of friends in no time. If you are an adult DO make sure to stay as far away from this place as possible on a saturday these kids are hocked up on slush puppies and sugar. They will eat your face if you get in their way. Tremendously fun for kids (and making for a hilarious experience when intoxicated.) I highly recommend paying this place a visit.

Even back in the late 90s when my birthday came around, I was to be found on our hulking IBM computer make invitations with coloured, comic sans-style fonts and the ever-classy clip art. They usually said corny things like IT'S PARTY TIME! If only Invitation House had existed in those days, and I could have saved myself some Microsoft Word-related embarrassment. Luckily, Invitation House opened not long before my 18th birthday and so I finally had access to more than Windows 95 to create my masterpiece. When you go in you'll see the the walls are floor to ceiliing stacks of paper and card of varying patterns, colours, and textures. They have sheer overlay sheets, cute pins and embellishments, ribbons, and stamps. You can pick out what you want and dream up your own invitation, or the staff can help you. You can also pay them to assemble them all for you, or take your supplies home and do it yourself. Since my 18th I have also used Invitation House's wares to make 21st invites for me and for friends' parties, and often pop in to buy some nice paper or card if I'm making something special. Such a great idea for a shop, and I bet they do great business because it's such a niche market. Well done, Invitation House!

Stickers, pens, writing pads, stamps, you name it I love it! I am unashamedly geeky in that sense. So Invitation House, which funnily enough specialises in invitations, got a little excited squeal from me as I walked through their doors. Floor to ceiling shelves of different sorts of paper. Embossed, bridal, paper with cupcakes on it, floral, dinosaurs, oriental and SO much more. There is literally paper for any occasion here. It's stunning quality and averages around $1.00-$1.50 per piece so depending on the size of the event you're hosting it could become quite expensive. In my opinion though, receiving a paper invitation in this digital age is a little taste of the past, and it sets the tone for whatever the event is that the invitation is for. If you are getting married, having an important birthday celebration or hosting some sort of event which requires an old-school invitation, I definitely suggest popping in to Invitation House for some inspiration.

A bit silly, but we were in desperate need of a feed and some coffee. Slightly sleepy, and very hungover, we managed to string a sentence together to inform them that we would like a table for breakfast if there's one available. They were prompt, though clearly a little agitated that we hadn't made a booking, which confused me seeing as the restaurant was virtually empty. After pushing a bunch of tables together we were happily seated and ordered our coffee and breakfast. The menu was pretty standard with staples such as eggs benedict, omelette and muesli. I ordered the grilled haloumi and thought it was delicious, but some of my friends weren't happy with their meals like the omelette that was more mushroom than egg. Oh well, you can't please everyone but I enjoyed my meal. The coffee was good and our bill was very reasonable considering I had always considered Eve's a high-end restaurant previously. One thing about this place is that the view over the river is stunning. It's got a great relaxed vibe to it, which is probably why it is hugely popular for functions and weddings. It was a lovely dining experience and I'd definitely like to go back to see what they offer for lunch and dinner.

The wait staff were prompt, friendly and very warm and I quickly recovered from my paranoia. I was very excited to find gluten friendly menu items were highlighted and there was a nice array of options for me to choose from. I ordered the Confit Duck Leg w red curry sauce, lychee & jasmine rice (small serving) and my partner ordered the Market Fish w a crisp pumpkin & peanut dumpling w hot and sour dressing and heart of palm & coriander salad. Drinks flowed with conversation and we felt very looked after. The meals arrived after a thirty minute wait to much rapture - the wait staff explained the confit was a complex meal to prepare and apologised for the wait profusely, but they needn't have bothered. The succulent flesh and amazing flavour of the duck leg completely justified the wait time. I savoured every moment of what I can only describe as "the perfect dish". Lychee was meant to be eaten with red curry sauce, and jasmine rice provides the perfect fragrant partnership. My partner was impressed with his market fish but lamented that he should have gone with the Eye Fillet - an unfortunate case of post-order remorse. We both agreed that we will definitely be coming back to this gorgeous location. Eves on the River feels so homely and comfortable but in a strong and confident way. I can't wait to explore the menu further and enjoy more balmy evenings on the water.

First of all, the avo toast was very good. The avo was fresh, and the portion was hearty. I was surprised that I was given 6 slices of bacon for the price. My only feedback is that I was expecting the avo to be mashed vs slices. Secondarily, I had a bite of her dish, and it was like a stuffed hash brown. The potatoes were GBD, and the portion was good sized. The only downside was the price. Two entrees, plus two coffees was ~ $75 AUD: Pretty pricey for bfast. Regarding the ambiance, its casual here. You order at the counter. The baristas make your coffee fresh. The staff is super nice & friendly. FFG is cheaper vs the hotel (and most likely better too). Nonetheless, it would be hard to return during a short stay bc of the prices.

After seeing reviews of Felix for Goodness on Yelp, I knew we had to try this place out and it did not disappoint! Location: What I discovered about Brisbane is that there are a lot of hidden gems that are tucked away in alleys. If you know where BREW or 7 Eleven is located, Felix is pretty much directly across the street in the other alleyway. It's located in a white, brick building. There is a small black banner that says Food & Drink outside of their establishment. Service: The service that we received was fantastic. Right as we were walking up the stairs, we were greeted by one of the servers. She gave us some menus to look at, and told us to order at the register and the food would be brought out to us. Atmosphere: This place was so cute! Lots of exposed brick, colored windows, and charm galore. Great music selection in the background as well. I would give this place a 5/5 for the atmosphere...I would probably be a regular at this place if I lived near here. Food: I love that they use as much local and organic produce as they can. I ordered the granola, which came with yogurt and melon balls. I was eating really horribly that week, so I wanted to get something on the lighter side. It was a nice way to start the morning! Pros: -Charming atmosphere -Friendly service Cons: -To get to this place, you need to climb up some stairs, so it's not the best place for people that have a physical disability/ mobility issues -Get ready to get cozy. Tables are pretty close to one another, but there's a good reason why. This place gets packed!

If you're driving anything other than a compact car, it will be a challenge to park. I stayed at other Meriton properties after Brisbane where the car parks were comparatively palatial and gargantuan. My traveling party decided to go to another hotel. I went to reception and the reception agent said that since I showed up I wouldn't be charged for the one night and not to worry about it. Now, let's be clear, I get hotel cancellation policies, and I was willing to eat one night's worth of cost, but I was told at reception I wouldn't be charged. To my surprise I was charged. I emailed Meriton and the management at Brisbane advised that I "misheard" what the reception staff person said (let's be honest, this is code for they think I am a liar), and would not refund the one night charge, and hoped that their email would "clarify the misunderstanding". It didn't. The rooms might be nice, but the staff and the car park are not worth the hassle, which is a shame because the other two Meriton properties I stayed at were great.

I found The Stamford was a step up from the self rated five stars in Sydney. I'm tempted to remove a star for the excessive internet prices, however it didn't matter too much since I came with WiFi enabled devices. Still, we're in the day and age where 5 star hotels need to provide this service at low or zero cost. Whoever learns this first will have a lot of happy customers. Small things that were pleasant surprises: a Vidal Sassoon 2100 Pro hair dryer dried my hair in two minutes; much nicer that the standard wall mounted mini dryers. A shower rack that would actually hold a thing or two, spare blanket in closet stored in plastic to keep it dust free, saucers in buffet area with a central impression to help support the cup. A phone by the toilet, television in the bathroom, motion detecting lights in the bathroom, Do Not Disturb is controlled by a switch near the bed, fold out minibar with well placed power outlet for kettle, 42" television. Improvements that could be made include more streamlining for Concierge (they seem to do their best, but expect a wait), and changing the repetitive pan pipe music in The Brasserie. The motion detecting lights in The Brasserie toilets don't have motion detectors in the private stalls. If you are in there for 10 minutes or so, the lights go out, and you'll be left in pitch blackness. I had to do a pants down waddle into the main public area of the toilets, and it was so dark I had to feel my way. I thought the oversight was hilarious. More important things: sumptuous beautiful white bedding, beautiful views, polite service. Centrally controlled lamps make for nice lighting.
