Party City - Here's an idea, get your balloons from elsewhere.

Party City

Unless you're purchasing an item that is on clearance, Party City is not cheap by any means. For…read morebeing known as a discount store, the prices surprise me. Had the most frustrating experience here yesterday when I came in to buy balloons. The people who work here just have no clue what's going on. The store itself is fairly clean and organized for the most part. Aisles separated by theme, color and so if you're looking to come in and stick to a scheme and don't care about how much money you're spending, then this is definitely the place for you. Endless amount of holiday decor, graduation items, birthday things galore, they have it all. However, customer service is usually the reason why I'll continue to come to a place or decide to never go back. Like I said, came to buy balloons yesterday and the person behind the balloon counter hadn't a clue what was going on and had no interest in helping me whatsoever. I approached the counter and told her I needed to buy some balloons and before I could finish my sentence she said, "Hold on" Okay, fine you're in the middle of something, no problem. Maybe a little bit of a nicer way to say that but it's fine. When it was good time for her to help me I asked her if I picked out balloons myself and she said yes. So I went along the rows of latex balloons, most bins were completely empty, some balloons were dusty and dirty. I grabbed six latex balloons and put them on the counter. The girl then said, "You have to go to the counter on the other side of 2." Huh? I'm not an employee, don't know what that means. So I asked her if she could blow up a balloon slightly so I could see what it looks like and she just started at me blankly. After a staring contest for about 10 seconds, she goes, "Okay." Walks over to the air and says it's a pale yellow and didn't blow it up for me. Any time I've been to Party Cities in the past, they have no problem blowing up a balloon slightly so that I can see what it looks like before making a final decision. Then I asked her if she had any helium "Congratulations" balloons. She pointed her finger up to the ceiling where there were about 100 different kinds of balloons. Seriously? You work here, you can't tell me you have one or not? She couldn't because she didn't know nor did she care to help me find out. So I walked along the store with my head up at the ceiling trying to find a Congratulations balloon. To save you the time, they don't have one. Long story short it was seriously the slowest, laziest, customer service I've seen in a while. I'd rather go to the dollar store or spend the extra buck and have these done at Wegmans.

They were very easy to work with over the phone, and the people were professional during the drop off and removal. I would recommend and I would use them again.

Luckily my tenant was home, and watched him pick up a cellphone (one that one of my party guests had dropped and thought he had lost) and put it in his backpack. I confronted the owner and he was able to get the phone back from his employee. I had to drive down to Ithaca to get it back and return it to my guest. I can only assume that the employee who took the phone "cleans up" after weddings, parties, etc. at the expense of party guests who leave their phones, wallets, watches, etc. on or around the tent, never to see them again. What started out good left a horrible taste in my mouth. What else has this employee of Rick's taken that doesn't belong to him? Had he done the right thing and placed the cell phone on my porch or mailbox with a small note, this would have been a 5+ star review, and a small reward for honesty would have been sent to the young man who found the phone. As it is, I cannot recommend Rick's Rental World based on this experience. TRUST is everything!

It's almost a shame that that's the case because I've been to party city about 4 times and it's usually surprisingly useful. Can you get all the same stuff from amazon possibly for cheaper? Eh probably, but the convenience of brick and mortar is same day and finding things you never knew you needed. Having been here once recently for props for a photo shoot for my baby daughter i learned that I actually really like the black and gold decorations for new years which I have never had in my life. In addition apparently any kid that goes to party city gets one free balloon. That's a classy establishment. I'll probably continue to buy my useless party junk on amazon for the most part but all in all, shockingly good store despite what you would somewhat expect.

It was 15 minutes before closing, Nick along with 3 other employees were standing around chatting while one employee was cashing out a customer, who had a ton of items. After the store closed and we still had not moved in line, myself, the couple in front of me and the woman behind me were getting frustrated, I asked Nick if he could open another register and he snapped at me and said "I'm working on it so just wait". After a few more minutes an employee finally opened another register. As I left the store, Nick opened the locked door and as I walked out he slammed the doors shut almost before I got out. My daughter was in the car right outside the door and she was shocked at what he had done. This employee should not be a supervisor! Good luck Party City!

I also liked that they had graduation decor in different colors so you could decorate according to the colors your school was. I saw blue, maroon, green, black, white, and much more. I came to get table place card holders and found several. They had more baby shower ones but I was looking for some that I could use at both my own wedding and at my grandma's 100th birthday party. I ended up opting for a white rose one. I also got number balloons for a little under $2 each. I appreciate the cashier who caught that I grabbed a Q instead of a number zero. I wanted to get numbered candles but they were almost $3 each and for the number 100, that would end up costing almost $10. There is plenty of parking here because the plaza is a little dead. I saw lots of milestone birthday decor but it only went up to age 90. They have a large card selection as well and a $1 cards section. I thought some of their birthday themes were creative and new. I saw a bee themed decor for a gender reveal party and "adventure awaits" for a baby's birthday party. Their balloon selection is unbeatable. I wish balloons weren't as expensive as they are.

One of my children ended up with 4 staples in her head when she was thrown off of a bounce house because there were too many kids, and another one of my kids was almost injured in the same bounce house due to too many children on top of each other. Another complaint was their lack of response when my child was injured. They couldn't find a first aid kit in a timely manner, and left bloody towels laying on the table for the next set of families to find. They never did sanitize where the bloody towels were. I've had positive experiences in past years but this year was awful and I'll never return again. The sign in process was awful because they over booked. Some of my kids parent's never got to sign themselves in because of it and just went into the play area. So many people traveled for hours and were disappointed by the entire experience. When I tried to resolve it with the owner, they repeatedly avoided handling the situation over the course of months, and instead of offering a refund they offered me a bounce house rental. As if I'd want to go there again. I filed a BBB complaint but they continued to deny any wrong doing. Extremely poor management. I highly recommend you take your birthday parties somewhere else with better management who cares about their customers and righting problems when they make mistakes as this is not a company that does.

A group of three kids in the 10-13 age range were dropped off by their parents who promptly left. Those kids ran around with no concern for the many younger kids there. My 2 year old and 3 year old were repeatedly knocked over, and even had the older kids tell them they couldn't go down one of the slides because the older kids were playing hide and seek there. Despite me expressing concern for my kids' safety, the girl behind the counter never got up to do anything about it. I would never bring my kids there again. They clearly do not care about the safety of the children. Update: I contacted JAI through their web site, and they replied that the mall site is designed for kids under 10, but they "don't like to turn children away." In other words, we take whatever money we can get, and prioritize profit over safety. If the site is under 10, it's UNDER 10!!! Even worse, they said the employee on duty that day was a new hire who didn't know what she was supposed to do. Imagine that. She has to be trained to care about the safety of the kids and respond to customer complaints. Unbelievable! Stay away!
