It's a cooperative effort of the Town of Haymarket, St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Mission, and St. Paul's Anglican Church. Volunteers staff and run the program. Their mission and vision statements are below: Mission statement: The Mission of the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry is to eliminate hunger in our community and surrounding areas by acquiring and distributing food to those who seek aid. We will accomplish this mission by educating, empowering and enlightening the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition Vision: We envision a community in which everyone has access to sufficient, nutritious food. I became aware of this organization recently. So when I am out grocery shopping at Giant Food, I watch for good deals on things like canned goods - where I can buy a couple of cases of canned non-perishable items - such as vegetables, soups, fruits, pasta dishes, etc., to take over and donate to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. I think it's important as a community to help out those in our community that are struggling and less fortunate. This is one small way I can help out. I encourage anyone in the area to get into the habit of making a regular donation to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry is located in a small house right next to the Town of Haymarket Police Department, right off of Route 55 (Washington Street).

There are plenty of items to look through (old and new) to bring character into the home or space that you intend to work on. Lots of peace of mind to bring things that you can no longer use making this a great rotating operation. The proceeds and donated items go towards building homes for low income individuals/ families that can receive a mortgage based on income. At least that was what it was when it first started. (I had the opportunity to volunteer on a renovation of a home as a youth and found it a rewarding experience to meet the homeless family that would be moving into the finished structure.) Just as in other thrift stores, this place has discounts up to 50% based on sticker colors. +Plenty of help to load items into the vehicle. +Pleasant staff! +Clean and organized +ample parking I've always had a great experience here and recommend it as a first stop before looking elsewhere.

T2R plays an active role in helping families through the many stages of treatment for a life-threatening illness. Lois Lyons, a tornado of passion and compassion, founded this organization in memory of Rachel Crossett. Rachel, after a three-year battle with neuroblastoma, has left a leagacy of hope, support and continued education for individuals and families touched by the challenges this disease presents. I had the honor to attend my second T2R annual fund raising event at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson's Corner last week. This organization is so child and family focused and the continuous work the founder and her army of an all volunteer team does brings smiles, relief and as we all experienced last Thursday night tears of joy that we might all contribute to a greater good. I encourage each and every member of the Yelp community that will read this review to view their website. See how you can volunteer and by all means spread the word about this fantastic group of people to help expand the many helping hands needed to keep doing what they do to help others!!

They put the health of their residents at risk to diseases just for the sake of having a job.

Shelter House first came on to my radar a few years ago when I was searching for a homeless shelter…read morein the area that accepted food donations that were leftover from a company holiday party (something that is surprisingly hard to find in the area). I became interested in their mission which was to provide safe housing and life skills to homeless families due to domestic violence situations and soon started volunteering every Monday afternoon in their children and teen's room while their mothers attended professional development sessions. I am not going to lie -- it was tough work! I was a 24 year old girl working with a wide range of children ages 2 - 16 with all different personalities and needs all by myself. I would spend my afternoons cuddling children, attempting to play football, teaching the Soulja Boy, and picking up blocks. But after coming in week after week, I found my groove and found myself falling in love with these children and their families. I actually tasted my first bite of daal here and it is now the first dish I order whenever I go to an Indian or Pakistani restaurant because one of the mothers at the shelter used to cook me an extra plate whenever I was there. I unfortunately had to leave the program because of time constraints but I am writing this review in hopes that someone who is looking to give a little piece of their heart finds this place. These children need stable mentors and role models to look up to, especially males. If you want to hear more about my experience or have questions feel free to reach out to me.
