I love labyrinths. I design them, build them, run workshops on them... and walk them whenever I see one. They're very useful and versatile meditative tools and walking one will, if nothing else, leave you calmer than when you started.
Glasgow doesn't (yet) have a 'proper' public labyrinth (unlike Edinburgh), but there are a couple of examples to be found, and this is one of them. It's best classed as a 'contemporary meander' pattern and has two symmetrical entrances connected by a single path via the centre goal. It was built around 2007 I think, and I can't remember the designer - I was asked to do it but I was too busy with other stuff at the time so I had to turn it down.
After the labyrinth was constructed, some benches and a fence were added to provide some measure of security and keep animals out. Unfortunately, one of the benches sits right over one of the path entrances, which shows some lack of insight.
At the time of this review, the stonework is looking a bit shabby and could do with a good pressure wash to remove dirt and moss. Hopefully the 'Friends' of the park will organise this in the summer, restoring it to its pristine self. read more
