I was going through a rough time in life. I had just gotten out of an emotional depression. My finances were a mess, and I was on the brink of having my car repossessed. I put an Ad up online to sell my car. Someone from the Parley Consulting office contacted me, saying they could help me get rid of my car loan debt. I set up a meeting. At the meeting, I was asked if my car loan was with a bank. I told Randy that it was done at the dealership, to which he replied "Right, but ultimately your loan is with a bank, right?" (Remember this part, because it will be important later). I agreed that ultimately my loan was with a bank. I was told that they could also help me with my credit card debt. I was given various forms to fill out. I filled everything out. The direct withdrawal form was filled out for Parley Consulting to withdraw a monthly payment from my account, but I told Randy that I was not currently depositing money into my account because I did not know if the bank was still trying to take out car payments. I was asked if I would need another direct-withdrawal form, and I said yes. I was never sent another form. When they tried to take money *out of an account I had told them would not have funds in it*, the account incurred NSF fees. I paid on my end, and I paid them cash to cover the NSF fees on their end. I also paid for the next month's fee in advance in cash. So a few months go by, and they try to take money out again. My account was still a mess, so it comes back NSF again. I call them, because even though it's been 3 months and I have not sat down with a consultant about my car and credit card bills (they told me this part takes some time and they kept telling me they needed more information from me, and when I told them I gave them everything they had asked for Randy would say "okay I'll run this by my consultant. ").... anyways I called them to arrange another cash payment because I still thought I needed their help. I got their voice mail and went to Randy's extension. And I never got a call back. This is where the red flags started to go up for me. Had I been awful with holding up my end of things? Sure. Guilty as charged. But usually if you fail to pay a professional and reputable company, they'll at least give you a courtesy call or an email. I did not receive anything from this company. All communication stopped from their end. BUT they were still trying to take out their monthly fees. This whole process started in January for me. It was now April and I had not heard from anyone within Parley Consulting for at least 3 weeks. No progress had been made (they hadn't shown me anything) and although I was late on payments I had tried to reach them to pay them what I owed them plus extra payments in advance, but they simply did not respond to my calls or emails. The alarm bells really started going off when I started getting phone calls from a third party about my overdue credit card bill. Now it had been a solid month since I had heard from Parley Consulting. I had tried to reach them at least 3 times and no one ever called me back. So out of fear that my wages would be garnished, I called another debt consulting office. This other debt consulting office asked me one simple question : was my car loan through the dealership? I said yes, but a bank held the loan. He asked again: "But you sat in a dealership and you were approved right there at the dealership?". I said yes. Then the man tells me "There's a law in Alberta that says that if your car is repossessed and sold at auction (which mine was), and your loan was negotiated through a car dealership, when that car is sold at auction, the original loan agreement is wiped out. Gone.". (Remember when I told you to remember what Randy had asked me, and HOW he had asked the question?) So now, I'm getting calls from a third-party bill collector for my overdue credit card - so obviously Parley Consulting is not handling that for me. And I've just been told *for free* from another debt consulting firm that my car loan has been wiped out. But Parley Consulting had been trying to take money from me for months without even returning my calls/emails. In the end, I ended up negotiating my own payment arrangements with the third-party for my credit card. And I have never seen or heard anything from my bank about the car that was auctioned off here in Alberta. I strongly caution anybody from doing business with Parley Consulting. read more

When a family is referred to us, we start with understanding that families current situation through a one hour no-cost consultation. At which time we outline all their options from bankruptcy to "staying the course". Oddly enough, "staying the course" may save them dollars in the long run through better budgeting. Parley Debt Consulting is an Edmonton based company consulting with families struggling with the burden of crippling debt. Over the last 5 years our client centric consulting process has lead to hundreds of families saving upwards of 80% on their debt. Over that time, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been negotiated in favour of those families. Prior to Parley Consulting, Randal Clark has been over a decade in subprime mortgage lending. During that time the order of the day would be to lend families money at high interest rates. Secure the loans to their homes and my investors did very well. Over time I found that most people would use that money to consolidate debt. I also discovered that the creditors were willing to settle on way less than what was owed. I began negotiating with creditors as a service to those families. I am not sure when but eventually negotiating with creditors became more satisfying than lending high interest rate money.

On the one hand, he did seem to know a fair bit more than me about financial stuff (no real surprise there). And he was reasonably friendly. But I decided not to go with them because of the experience I had with the rep. For one, my husband and each manage our own accounts, and work together to manage joint expenses (like rent, food, and bigger financial decisions). Typically I'm a little more proactive, like in terms of keeping records, trying to learn about investing, etc. than my husband is. However, the rep kept talking mostly to my husband, asking him about all the bookkeeping, and leaving me out of the conversation a bit - except for when he would explain financial concepts to me (and only me) with shopping metaphors. I kid you not, I felt like we were back in the 50s. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised, cos the visual aids he had to explain some stuff looked like they were from the 70s or 80s in terms of style (and were a bit beat up). They may seem like small things, but I can't help but wonder how my experience would be with someone who can't even keep their materials up to date, and who assumes the husband does all the work and that the wife could understand better through shopping allegories. It was bizarre. Maybe their services themselves are alright; I don't have much to compare to. But I certainly won't go with a company that treats me in such a bizarre manner.

My experience with Sun Life Financial hasn't been good to say the least. Although it may be true…read morethat the staff is friendly and helpful at times; the services they offer aren't the best and it seems to take them centuries to approve my short term disability. At first they didn't accept me because of little detail of my condition, so I thought why not a second time and this time I made sure it was the best it could be so they could be able to accept me. Now it's been more than three months and I'm getting impatient, what is taking them so long? Not only that, they seem to be avoiding my calls and voice mails, as if they are procrastinating to look and investigate on my short term disability. I'm getting more worried about their approval than my own condition. So to anyone who is considering to use Sun Life Financial I warn you and be careful of what you're getting yourself into.

CAUTION FROM THIS COMPANY! As a client of Parley consulting I caution doing business with this company. The director (RC)or owner as he references himself has no education or certificated credentials to be advising on debit resolution, bankruptcy and insolvency cases. Meaning he has zero accountability to his clients and is not governed by any professional services. Not to mention my personal sensitive information was used maliciously and shared with other third party individuals without my knowlege. Major privacy issues here! Only advice I can offer is to work with a governed trustee office, avoid this guy, as he will only charge you additional fees to net the same result. His fees fluctuate from client to client as do his operating hours from website to website. Find a real company that doesnt take client meetings in coffee shops or restaurants (Humptys) to discuss and articulate sensitive financial matters. This company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. read more

These guys are rock stars in my book. After going through so much nonsense (and money...) with money mentors and then with 4 pillars, Parley was a breath of fresh air. Down to earth, knowledgeable and always available for advice. They handled the creditor calls and kept me informed for peanuts money wise, heck I even had the option to go on a payment plan.. My situation was bad but at the end of the day, I managed to keep 1 of my cars and my house, which is all that mattered to me. The bank took my truck back, but that was going to happen anyway and I was informed of that up front. Parley's strategy was WAY superior than that of their so called competitors. Do yourself a favor, END the stress and call Parley consulting 1st. Or call one of those other 2 rip off firms and loose your house, car, dog and maybe even your wife. Parley is not a scam but YELP is. If you are interested in Parley, keep doing research, talk with the person who referred you. In fact you will notice 2 other YELP 5 star reviews from real clients that are not "recommended" by Yelp unless Parley actually pays for advertising. Ask yourself if that is reflective of a fair representation of any business? Just to recap, the only reason you are reading this is because it has a 1 star review... Anyone who can hide behind a keyboard and bash a business is welcome on Yelp... real people? Meh If you still seek credibility throug YELP than you should read the entire 1 star reviews AND the response from Parley. read more

The folks at Parley Consulting are wonderful. They helped me determine an effective strategy for dealing with some financial issues that I was having. When I met with Randy to discuss my options, I felt immediately put at ease and not judged for my circumstances in anyway. We came up with a strategy that worked - and one that I didn't even know was an option. Im not sure about the guy who had the bad experience but for me talking to Randy was a breath of fresh air. He was real with me but not rude. For my situation Randy told me that his services were not needed but nonetheless still give me 30 minutes of his time over the span of a couple phone calls letting me know the process of debt collection and how it would apply to my specific situation. Once appon a time I was paying some Not for Profit credit counselors $1200 per month. Than I met Randy and now I pay $240 per month. Do the math :) Seriously, It is rare to find someone who lays it on the line and unlike the other company, I knew from day one exactly what it was going to cost including any fees. Over all a great experience. Parking is a bit strange as it is a home office but its a gorgeous turn of the century house.
