I've socked some dough away in various little investments: Rrsp, GIC, savings accounts. I kind of resent the commissions they make off the top of all my investments, but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. There is a contest to entice members to save. A random member will win 1 million dollars. Each $500.00 deposit is an entry to win. It made me conscious to pay myself first and not blow a bunch of cash on nonsense. The bankers are quick to return your calls and meetings are made at your convenience. The hours of operations are decent, and proper health protocols are in place. I feel like it's a friendly, small town bank. I do not feel this way at the CIBC. My CIBC branch isn't even open during this pandemic.

I guess they are too good for me because I was denied a checking account based on my credit score! Never heard of such a ridiculous requirement to open a checking account that would contain my own money - I was not asking to have them extend a line of credit or anything that would make me a risk for their establishment. They need to review their absurd policies. Meanwhile, if any of you do not have an above average credit score, don't waste your time going there.

Currently, they are becoming competitive with cash back rewards. I don't like the current user fees for my debit card, so I keep using the Servus Mastercard and just pay it monthly. It's easy to get an appointment with a staff member regarding mortgages and investments, etc. They seem to work diligently for your security. This branch has wonderful staff. There is also lots of easy parking. The ATM has a terrible interface. It should go paperless like BMO. The online banking app also has a terrible interface, but I feel secure using it and the message center is reliable as well. Last week, this bank merged with another bank called connectFirst. I'm hoping my member benefits will increase. Try not to use the ATM when the bank is closed. It can be scary.

A cautionary tale for Non-profit Boards - Personal Liability added without notification: Over the…read morelast 30 years working in non-profits, I have been on 3 different boards which banked with Servus, including starting a large account with them in 2002 for a current/thriving non-profit. The most recent non-profit board was for a local organization that did not survive the economic downturn, and closed in 2024. When the organization folded, I discovered that without my realizing it, Servus had added my personal liability to the overdraft during a routine increase, which they are now suing to retrieve. Servus' small business advisor Derek B. originally rejected the request to increase the overdraft, but then claimed that the 'algorithm' was a new way to discover if it could be increased. Derek more than doubled the increase I had requested (I later found out, by using my personal credit) and then sent a docu-sign. There was no notary republic, and no warning at all that the 'co-borrower' language now in the boiler plate contract meant that although I was personally legally prohibited from using it, I was also personally on the hook for it. If you are a non-profit board considering moving your organizations banking to Servus (I always thought that credit unions were a community friendly, morally appealing option) it is wise to ask them if they truly understand and support the basics of non-profit law, and if they have, or intend to insert co-borrower clauses in any of the routine documents they will ask your board to sign for non-profit board overdrafts and credit-lines.
