The walking trails are wide enough for multiple people to be walking, running and biking without bumping into each other- unlike highland. Overall great place and wish there were more like it in Baton Rouge.

Swings, slides, bridges, a splash pad, pavilion, and plenty of stimulating mini activity games. Lots of shaded areas, and plenty of space for even a very busy day. Lots of benches around the proximity and 8 good sized picnic tables (6-8 adults per table or 10 kids per table approximately.) I don't think a GPS has an easy time with this address but it's on the corner of River Rd and Government St. Not far from Whistle Stop coffee shop and antique district of Denham which makes for a fun day. This park is awesome…read more The North Sherwood Forest community park has lots of different things to offer; from the young at heart to the matured at heart. This park looks like it's been revamped and been turned into a very beautiful setting for recreational purposes. A spectacular feature for the park is a very nice and well put together spray ground with playground equipment surrounding. There are lots of seating areas around the spray ground, some open to the sun, others covered by latticework structures, and yet still some close by that are covered. The park has a moon shaped lake with a walkway kind of like a Riverwalk or boardwalk that travels along side of it. There is a dock on one side of the lake ideal for fishing and a protrusion on the boardwalk section also ideal for fishing. There are plenty of public restrooms and water fountains all around the park. There are plenty of grass areas open for play like soccer or hitting baseballs. One of my favorite features is a calisthenics exercise area equipped with stairmaster elliptical leg machines also dip bars, pull up bars, and sit up benches. Another really nice feature is a gigantic, covered sandbox area where parents can sit on benches around the sandbox while children play. BREC has been putting together some extra exceptionally spectacular parks around Baton Rouge. If you get a chance to come experience this park, please do as you will not be disappointed.

Instead of kids getting to burn off some energy after spending an entire day sitting at a desk in school, they are forced to sit at a table and be quite. WOW have they really refurbished it! The playground area is so nice and looked to be maintained very well. I noticed they have added a paved sidewalk area that goes back into the woods and although we did not follow it back I would love to come bike riding on it. Back in the day we had the woods and some dinky swings and a slide. This is a great upgrade. There is a nice children's play area including a larger set with monkey bars. slides, and several places to climb up and down. There is also a smaller climbing toy with a two sided slide for toddlers. Likewise there are infant swings - the old bucket type and swings for older children. I love the fact there is such a nice area you could really play kickball or run around.. fly a kite, etc. The tennis courts look great and so do the basketball courts. In the distance the baseball backstops are sill up and ready to be played on. Its really, really great to see the neighborhood park has been redone so nicely. I know I'll be bringing the kids back to play a lot more since seeing this. At one time BREC was doing doing programs fro kids at the park so if you are in the area it would be worth looking into!

Another plus is that the location in mid-city is great, the area is relatively safe. They oftentimes have free events going on such as the recent Arts in the Park with added free museum admission.
