Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. And this vegan city slicker is definitely not their target audience but I like to have an open mind and I do appreciate the fact that you can find many many practical things here. I'm just not the most practical person. For example, I bought my boat here (2017 Tahoe 1950). Do I even know how to drive the thing? No. But my husband drives me around in it. I hate driving. I like boats. And I can handle nature in small doses (preferably not on triple digit high humidity days). Kristen (sorry if I spelled it wrong) helped me. She was very friendly, easy going and helpful. It was a very quick process to exchange my shoes, no hassle at all. I was very excited with my first pair of Hoka and was looking forward to comfortable walking. Unfortunately I finally wore them last weekend on a trip that had lots of walking. After the second day, I couldn't walk in them anymore. My feet are too wide and I had such pain in the area where my feet were hanging over the soles. I wasn't sure of the return policy about worn shoes but went back to ask about exchanging once again. I happened to run into Kristen again and asked her if she remembered helping me last time. She initially didn't until I told her the Mother's Day gift and the color. She instantly recalled our encounter. After explaining to her about the shoes and asked if I could exchange them, she said "yes!" I was so relieved! She then proceeded with looking for the same shoes in wider fit for me.
