Its inexpensive and close to the train station and close to a lot of hiking trails (tours) to different parts of the Black Forest, (Lake Titisee, Feldberg and the Ravenna Gorge). There are running/bike trails right by the hotel and they let you rent bikes for the day, which is a nice deal. The rooms themselves are spacious, with a balcony. There is a restaurant on-site that has pretty good breakfast and lunch options (didn't try the dinner). Overall, this is a good place for a work trip, the only downside is that it's not walking distance in the city, but the views are amaizing from almost every room!

If you get a room on one of the top floors you'll get a grand view over the city and the rolling Schwarzwald hills - and the views will be quite mesmerizing from morning to night. My room was a queen sized one, nice and clean with what you could expect from a standard room. The obvious minus would be that the floor is carpeted with one of those old-fashioned carpets that are both yucky, non-allergy or environmental friendly. The bed and pillows are a bit soft plus there's something a bit mouldy smelly in the shower, the ventilation needs looking at. Also I miss sustainability efforts like the possibility to source separation your litter, a reminder that you needn't change your towels every day etc. Friendly staff, free wifi (although it's quite slow if you chose the free option) and the public transport ticket is included for all guests, which is great! Never tried the breakfast, not sure how well they could accomodate vegan options, I generally find hotel breakfasts boring and I love having breakfasts at cafes. So I'd sat opt out of the breakfast when you book your room and have a great breakfast at a nearby cafe instead (for example Huber or Café POW). With both pros and cons my overall rating will land at a strong 3.

However, they were very helpful in giving us directions to a rather obscure town on the edge of the Black Forest, and there was also a nice bar where I was able to have a beer before I ended up going to bed. Sure, I did want to check out the nightclub next door (that happened to be on the top floor of a building) but I ended up passing on that, and just relaxed in the bar.

You'll feel you're in another world, out in the country…read more I travel to the Nordrach/Zell area frequently for business. As I've grown familiar with the area, it's a small town in the heart of The Black Forest. Scenic, quiet and near perfection. Typically, my company has us stay at another hotel. On one occasion, that hotel was full so I needed to look into another location. At the time, I had no idea the good fortune I was about to discover. Only 5 minutes from the main street of the small town of Zell, Zum Pflug somehow transports you to another world, only a couple of miles down the road. As you exit the main part of Zell, a few twists an turns away, you find yourself in this little nook of a neighborhood. Country like and very European, obviously. In the middle of it, you'll find what looks like a larger house, or old building which is Zum Pflug. Not a ton of parking, but I've never had trouble finding a spot. There are two entrances. What appears to be the main entrance takes you through the pub/restaurant and you make your way over to the front desk to check in. Zum Pflug is run by a wonderful woman named Valtraud and her husband. They work seemingly tirelessly at providing a stellar service experience. When you walk in, you can smell the food and instantly become hungry. After checking in, you walk up stairs to the hotel rooms. There is an elevator available, if needed. You're given your key - a real key on a keychain - and check out your room. During m visit, I was with a group of people. Some rooms seem to vary and I believe there are different levels. I was in a basic single room. Like many hotels in Europe, the room is quite small but you have everything that you need. The bed is pretty standard for European accommodations. Not a very think cushiony mattress, but it does get the job done. The bathroom, in my particular room, was extremely small but efficient. Sink, toilet, shower. You could literally touch all three no matter where you stand. In fact, the glass shower doors turn inward to give you more room to move around. Interesting design. There isn't much of a closet but rather closet nook with cubby shelves on each side for you things. Because of the area, the hotel is quiet, especially at night. It really feels more like a B&B, but it is a hotel. Now - caution if you're not used to visiting European countries, especially in smaller towns. There is no air conditioning in the room. I happened to be there during the hottest weeks of 2025 in June. +90F temperatures with extremely high humidity. It literally feels like a steam bath. After the first night, I found my way to OBI (much like a Home Depot, in the US or B&Q, in the UK, but on steroids). For 20 Euros, I bought a desktop oscillating fan. This was a life saver, if you struggle with the heat. After my 2 weeks at Zum Pflug, myself and some of the others I was traveling with simply left our fans at the hotel. So, you may want to ask the front desk if they have any fans to use. Then there is the bar restaurant. For breakfast they have a very traditional European buffet. Meats, cheeses, cereals, yogurts, etc. But Valtraud asks if you'd like eggs and/or bacon, which she makes to order. Dinner is phenomenal. The menu does change periodically and it appears to be mostly farm-to-table foods. I've yet to have a bad meal in Germany, and Zum Pflug was absolutely no exception. Great meals every time. Even on the nights we ate dinner elsewhere, we either had a drink before venturing out and/or when we returned to the hotel. Manuela was a great server throughout our stay. Always remembering what we liked and made some great recommendations. And, of course, Valtraud was walking around, serving, cleaning and having a drink with her regular guests when she had time. I have no idea if/when this woman sleeps. There is plenty of seating inside of the pub/restaurant area but and perfect and quaint outside patio, which is where we spent most of our time. Would I go back? I simply cannot wat to go back. The following month I was in town again but unfortunately had to stay at another hotel. But I did bring my group for that week to Zum Pflug for dinner one evening and had a great time. In the future, Zum Pflug will easily be my first choice in accommodations when I have the option.

(9/10) We had a…read morewonderful stay at this charming hotel in the Black Forest and would happily return. Many of the negative reviews seem to focus on the fact that the hotel is not ultra-modern. What those reviewers often overlook is that this building is approximately 144 years old. It looks like something straight out of a fairy tale--a traditional Black Forest house full of character and history. If you're looking for a unique and authentic experience rather than a generic chain hotel, this place is a gem. The view is absolutely great. When you sit on the terrace, you can see the waterfall entrance and enjoy a beautiful street view at the same time. It really adds something special to the whole experience and makes it even more memorable. The room was the perfect size for our stay, and everything was spotless. The bathroom is small, but we managed just fine. The cleanliness throughout the hotel was impressive. The food was excellent, and the staff worked incredibly hard to make guests feel welcome and well taken care of. Accessibility is limited, which is to be expected in a historic building. There are no elevators, and the hotel is not fully barrier-free. My mother who recently had hip surgery still managed the stairs without major issues, but guests with mobility challenges should be aware of this before booking. Also, pack light if possible--hauling a heavy suitcase up the stairs would not be fun in a 144-year-old building. The only real challenge is parking. We recommend scouting out parking options before arrival. Within 5 min walking distance you'll find the Männerparkhaus parking garage. Be aware that the walk back to the hotel is uphill and fairly steep, so if you're traveling with someone who has difficulty walking, it's best to drop them off at the hotel first. We parked overnight on Level 2 and paid €16, which was absolutely worth it for the convenience and the abundance of parking spaces. Overall, this hotel offers history, charm, cleanliness, great food, a hardworking team, and an unforgettable view. If you appreciate character and understand that a historic property won't have all the features of a modern hotel, you'll likely enjoy your stay as much as we did.
