The staff are really fun and truly follow their characters! The decor is so cool and I love their setup, it's awesome how it stays up year round. It's very fun to be able to dress up for this event and just enjoy the day with friends and family. The souvenirs are super expensive but that's probably due to vendors trying to make up what they paid in the set up fee. It's still super cool stuff. It's extremely hot in July but luckily there is a lot of shade and spots to sit. I would recommend going at least once!

The festival grounds are beautiful and so unique from other Renaissance Festivals! It is exceptionally well run, especially for a seasonal operation. Parking, traffic, maintenance, entertainment are impressive. Walking through the festival felt like being at Costco on its busiest Saturday of all times. I actually enjoy being somewhere that's so popular. A packed event creates a fun energy. However- the festival has become a victim of its own popularity. Even at 3pm, food lines are 100+ deep, and last hours. The problem isn't admission capacity but the ability to feed guests. Demand has simply outgrown the infrastructure for food service. I left after a couple hours without buying food or drinks, simply because I wasn't able to. This represents lost revenue for vendors as well as a worse guest experience. I'm not sure what the solution is. But I'd really hope the owners can figure something out. The festival keeps admission and food reasonably priced, and it's clear that a tremendous amount of work goes into creating such a wonderful event. Unfortunately, at this point, the festival has become a victim of its own success. Hurts me to type this, but I think they need to think about limiting attendance or increasing ticket and food prices enough to reduce crowding and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. The customers deserve to be fed, and the vendors deserve to make money!

This year I spent a good deal of time just wandering around enjoying the live music, the birds of prey exhibit, the delicious food and snow cones! Wine & beer were also available for those who wanted to enjoy them. I try to go every year as it now signals me that summer is coming to an end and the leaves are turning beneath the Rock. My children experienced blatant favoritism, where the same students were constantly given opportunities while others were overlooked, no matter how hard they worked. The class leveling is a complete mess, students with vastly different skill levels are lumped together, making it impossible for anyone to truly progress. When their regular instructor is unavailable, the kids are often taught by high school students who are given too much power in this school. While these students are lovely, it feels more like I'm paying for babysitting rather than a real dance education. I believe this is closely tied to the owner's lack of maturity, which affects their ability to run a business and hire qualified dance instructors. The instructors rarely provide meaningful feedback to help students improve, leaving them to guess what they need to work on. The "highest ranking" ballet teacher who is also good friends with the owner, is extremely condescending and rude to anyone who isn't one of their favorites. More so, the teachers are immature and not properly trained, and openly discuss students with other students, which is completely unprofessional and damaging to young dancers' confidence. The schedule is never provided in a timely manner and constantly fluctuates, leaving parents at the mercy of the school's availability rather than allowing for proper planning. We were constantly told the schedule is coming out on X date, registration is coming on X date and this rarely happens and is usually delayed weeks. If you truly want your child to learn proper dance technique, and grow as a dancer, look elsewhere--this school is more about instagram than an actual dance education.

There were specific areas for the highland games, medieval Scottish lifestyle, lots of girls with bouncy curls and rigid upper bodies dancing, Scottish food, dogs, sheep herding, find your clan, and stuff you don't need to buy tents. Most venues were cash only, they did have 2 ATM machines for those unprepared (including us!). Nessie greets you as you walk in to the park. The midday ceremonies included a parade of dogs (adorable), bands, and clans, which were colorful, loud, and fun. The food was the most disappointing. There's only one tent with subpar options for ~$8-10. The best part of the festival are the whiskey tastings! We got there relatively early and signed up for Ardbeg. Once inside the tent, we were given little crackers, place mats with whiskey, and a walk through. We even got whiskey glasses for souvenirs! I especially loved being surrounded by thick heavy Scottish accents whichever way I turned. I'll be back again next year! Please work on your food options.
