Unfortunately there are not many dance schools in Castle Rock but I would not recommend Castle Rock…read moreDance Academy to anyone who wants a fair, supportive, and professional dance environment. My children experienced blatant favoritism, where the same students were constantly given opportunities while others were overlooked, no matter how hard they worked. The class leveling is a complete mess, students with vastly different skill levels are lumped together, making it impossible for anyone to truly progress. When their regular instructor is unavailable, the kids are often taught by high school students who are given too much power in this school. While these students are lovely, it feels more like I'm paying for babysitting rather than a real dance education. I believe this is closely tied to the owner's lack of maturity, which affects their ability to run a business and hire qualified dance instructors. The instructors rarely provide meaningful feedback to help students improve, leaving them to guess what they need to work on. The "highest ranking" ballet teacher who is also good friends with the owner, is extremely condescending and rude to anyone who isn't one of their favorites. More so, the teachers are immature and not properly trained, and openly discuss students with other students, which is completely unprofessional and damaging to young dancers' confidence. The schedule is never provided in a timely manner and constantly fluctuates, leaving parents at the mercy of the school's availability rather than allowing for proper planning. We were constantly told the schedule is coming out on X date, registration is coming on X date and this rarely happens and is usually delayed weeks. If you truly want your child to learn proper dance technique, and grow as a dancer, look elsewhere--this school is more about instagram than an actual dance education.

If you want a studio that is fair and challenges you this is NOT THE PLACE!!!. If I could give this…read moreplace a zero I WOULD!!!. my daughter experienced favoritism with her teachers over looking her and other student. The same person would get favorited by getting special parts multiple times in a row and getting most of the attention. My daughter has lost ALOT of passion for dance and doesn't want to go her anymore. And they're not trying to hide it. The studio owner best friend will be rude and inconsiderate when the student is not her favorite. The leveling is all wrong, they put girls that can do AMAZING things and others that are not as excelled as others. They are not understanding of your home life. They make you sit out in class when you don't meet their behavior expectations when your the one paying them. My daughter came home crying or would dread going to dance. Certain Teachers make the class a competition. The teachers also talk about particular students right in front of them and make them feel bad and that they are not good enough. Instructors provide mean feedback. More so, the teachers are immature and not properly trained, and openly discuss students with other teachers in public which is damaging to a young dancers confidence and passion for dance. They also focus more about instagram than the dance education. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE!.

Favoritism is their talent. I remember performing but I also remember the ensemble parts and…read moreknowing that I would only get ensemble parts because the teachers favorites, specifically their daughter was going to get the main role. And I understand honestly that I wasn't the most talented, but it got me down. The company is nice and I liked it. But looking back I realized I could do better. And I am.

I was a past student there and I have something to say about spotlight. Some of the things are good…read morebut most are bad. The good things were that they offer a good range of classes from tumbling to acting, I only took acting and singing classes, they also do a lot of charity work and take groups to fun locations to sing. The bad things have scared me for life. I always felt as if I was not as good at singing or acting then the other kids, the vocal lessons started off in the main performing room were you would do vocal exercises and group songs then Teresa and Ashley would separate the kids into two groups, which I think is highly inappropriate because some kids struggle with confidence levels like me and I put on a shell that looks confident but I really struggle with self control so it was hard for me and for other kids. Another thing is that Ashley and Teresa put a front up saying that they don't try to make kids perfect when I think they do they also choose favorites ( I know every kid says that the teachers have favorites but in this case there where favorites) I always felt I was never up a favorite kid because they treated other kids differently. Amber who is a family member and student at spotlight is treated better then most kids and I know she has epilepsy and has a service dog for a reason but amber would bring her dog up to the stage and sing with It making the dog jump out of her hands and make a distraction also I'm afraid of small dogs and they give me bad anxiety so that was not helpful also they would hand out stickers to the "better" kids which again causes problems. The acting part was the same with the favorites. I remember going home everyday after those horrible classes crying. I have to go to therapy for anxiety and self esteem and when I went to spotlight they got worse Theo

Our daughter has been a dance student with PerformAbility for 6+ years. The instructor for this…read moreprogram is Ms. Melanie Rufien. She has the educational background (Master's Degree) in Special Education), and well over 10+ years of dance experience to effectively teach and guide children and young adults with special needs. Your dancer-athlete will learn speech, gross and fine motor skills, and working memory skills, all while dancing on a team, making new friends, exercising, and enjoying theirselves. It's therapy, however it's not therapy in a clinical sense. Special needs individuals often feel as though that's all they do is see a doctor, nurse, or a therapist in a clinical environment. This can get to be overwhelming and stressful for them. This is what happened with our daughter. We drove to therapy one day and she refused to get out of the car. After that, as parents we searched for a program for her where she could simply just be a kid. We found it with Starstruck Academy of Dance and PerformAbility Co! Your dancer-athlete will also learn the meaning of teamwork, patience, collaboration, compromise, and so much more! I asked my daughter the other day how long she plans on dancing and she said "Mom, I'm going to be a dancer and a cheerleader for life!" That works for us because dance has improved her poise, eye contact, and confidence. She has came out of her shell. Our family will be members of Performability Co for life! Thank you Ms. Melanie and Ms. Lisa for providing inclusion, love, and care for ALL of the young people in the community. We really appreciate you. You are the best!
