I was a past student there and I have something to say about spotlight. Some of the things are good but most are bad. The good things were that they offer a good range of classes from tumbling to acting, I only took acting and singing classes, they also do a lot of charity work and take groups to fun locations to sing. The bad things have scared me for life. I always felt as if I was not as good at singing or acting then the other kids, the vocal lessons started off in the main performing room were you would do vocal exercises and group songs then Teresa and Ashley would separate the kids into two groups, which I think is highly inappropriate because some kids struggle with confidence levels like me and I put on a shell that looks confident but I really struggle with self control so it was hard for me and for other kids. Another thing is that Ashley and Teresa put a front up saying that they don't try to make kids perfect when I think they do they also choose favorites ( I know every kid says that the teachers have favorites but in this case there where favorites) I always felt I was never up a favorite kid because they treated other kids differently. Amber who is a family member and student at spotlight is treated better then most kids and I know she has epilepsy and has a service dog for a reason but amber would bring her dog up to the stage and sing with It making the dog jump out of her hands and make a distraction also I'm afraid of small dogs and they give me bad anxiety so that was not helpful also they would hand out stickers to the "better" kids which again causes problems. Absolutely Awful! What a waste of time. They advertise "full length productions"-not even close. They just want your $ (that's why they ask for full payment up front) The set is just a black curtain and the costumes are whatever they scrounge together, or a tshirt that they print with advertising. The "teachers" talked more about the parts they almost got for shows than they did teaching anything!!! My kids wanted to learn about staging and theatre and they learned nothing! It is hard to break my kids spirit, but they did. Teresa and Ashley (owners and directors) use language like "you're kicked out of this number" or "you just don't get it" with young girls. It's inappropriate. I confronted the teacher to see what was going on in class and she responded with rude remarks and aggressive language. read more

I just wanted to clarify my last review regarding beginning and more advanced theatre students. We absolutely love the ladies at Spotlight and still highly recommend this studio. Ashley and Teresa are lovely, kind and care more about their students's well-being above all else. However, I would add that the musical theatre plays are geared more for the younger "beginning" students than the more advanced theatre students. That being said, I would also recommend Spotlight for children with special needs. The group dancing sessions (as well as individual sessions) are geared more for both the beginning and advanced students. read more

We are new to the area and looked online for a youth theater company for our 11 year old. Previously, she has been in school productions and loved drama. We just finished the Grinch and she is glad that it is over. She would have love to have stopped, but we told her that was not acceptable. Once I picked her up from class and the teachers were quite frankly really giving the students a very stern talking to; almost mean. I am a teacher, and I recognize that this is needed, but this is an after school program, intended to be fun. My daughter commented several times that the teachers were and could be quite harsh. She has never been one to complain about teachers. Before the show even started there was a good 10-15 minutes spotlighting three soloists (again from their other classes). I didn't want to come to a recital. It was apparent during the production that any solo/larger roles are given to students that take the other classes at the studio. The lead is apparently a lead in another musical here, and family member of the teacher. They did little to include "everybody." There was little, basically NO coreography whatsoever. The stage is tiny and because there were no platforms for actors to stand on, it was hard to see your child. The music was from a bad karoke CD... the grinch was even lip syncing at some points. Tickets for the performances were $12 each. In the matinee show today, we arrived 30 minutes early but so many people had saved seats we were in the back row. My six year old sat on her knees most of the time, but could not see a thing. $12 seems excessive for a child's ticket. There are other youth theater groups out there. We had a fantastic experience at Spotlight. My 7-year-old daughter was in one of their recent productions. Ms. Ashley and Ms. Teresa were wonderful! They make all the kids feel special and they really help them develop their performing skills. My daughter was always excited to go! We will definitely sign up for future productions! read more

My 6 year old daughter just finished "Beauty and the Beast" and loved every minute of it. It was our first experience with Spotlight and I was so impressed with the talent of all the kiddos and the kindness and camaraderie between them. Never did my daughter feel that she was treated unkindly or unfairly by the directors or other performers. In fact, quite the opposite! I overheard some of the rehearsals and thought that Ms. Teresa and Ms. Ashley's constructive direction was not only reasonable, but necessary. A huge part of performing arts is taking direction, learning accountability and being responsible for your role (no matter how big or small). This was certainly accomplished and as with anything - your child will get out of it what they put in. If Spotlight wasn't across town from us, my kiddo would no doubt be in multiple productions of theirs! Such a great outlet for the theater loving kid, especially with the only 1 day a week commitment. Highly recommend and thanks to Ashley and Teresa for a great experience! read more

Beware of this comany. This company advertises that they provide a fun and educational environment for kids. We found the opposite to be true. We registered our 6 year old daughter with Spotlight this fall. She loves acting and is so outgoing and happy. She has done other classes in the past with Kidstage and absolutely loved it. We had to pull her out of the production by this company because they were treating her and our neighbors child (who was also registered in this program and also had to pull her daughter out) so poorly. They put a lot of pressure on the kids to be their definition of perfect and then think it is ok to berate the kids in front of the class if they aren't performing to their standards. My daughter was doing great and knew her lines but some other girls were struggling. Instead of encouraging them and being positive they sent girls home crying. My neighbors child came home every class in tears (she's only 9). That's not how to support and teach children. It's also not the type of environment that I want my daughter to be in and witness. If want to be a professional company (which they are no where near it right now) then they should advertise as such and be clear with the parents. I tried to address the owner (who is also the instructor of the class) and give her the opportunity to make it right but all she did was get defensive and extremely rude. She did not try to understand my concerns and did not try to make it right for my daughter. We decided we had to leave this program. I have been a school teacher for 13 years and I can say that this company is not a good place for kids. Look elsewhere for a better more supportive and fun program for you child. read more

Spotlight is wonderful !! Our daughter has come out of her shell and LOVES going every week. The owners are very talented and never, ever put pressure on anyone to be perfect! The atmosphere is like family and all the kids get along and support each other. We are very impressed and highly recommend it!! read more

This place is amazing! I am in the Musical Theatre program here and I don't think that it could get any better! Not only do they make sure that you are doing things the best that you can, but they are there to fully guide you in the process. read more
