Food is good but the place is outdated and not cleaned very well. Much better places in town.

I am Jimmie Gicas, son of the original owner, Jimmie Gicas, my namesake and I worked at The Park Restaurant with my dad for five years as a waiter. I and the waitresses worked a full shift until midnight and then we cleaned for three hours until 3 A.M. Dad was noted for his cleanliness. I have only been back once for coffee with my niece, Patti. After reading the other reviews, it makes me sad. I have often cleaned the grill and around the grill after hours. In summer, dad would go outside and clean the exhaust fan and the area around it. All sugar dispensers, booths and the floors would be cleaned daily. I could go on but wanted to comment since I was very involved it its 'heyday'. read more

Formica counters, cozy booths, waitresses that know all the town gossip and diners that greet each other by first name - this place is a genuine throwback to a different time. Breakfast is a real treat at the Park Restaurant, with huge helpings at affordable prices. Make sure you order the potatoes with cheese and onions, they are a real treat! We were driving through Shenandoah and needed a place to get lunch, so when we stopped in a store to grab a few things, we asked the cashier to recommend a good restaurant, and her top choice was Park Restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. When you first pull up, the building looks a bit dated, but as they say, don't judge a book by its cover. The inside of the restaurant is like a small friendly hometown diner. You can tell that it is a beloved favorite of the locals. They serve breakfast all day (which always scores points in my book), and the menu has a wide range of American classics. I got the special of the day, which was roast chicken with filling/stuffing, and two sides (I chose a side salad and corn). It was really good, like cozy home cooking. And only $7.35 for the meal. Our waitress was so sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. This place was a nice little surprise, and I'd definitely go back again when we're in the area. read more

I enjoyed the food and service. The prices are not to be beat. The downsides are (1) it is very unclean, there is dust and grease caking the area that is visible for the patrons to see. (2)the other patrons kept looking at me like I wasn't supposed to be there and (3) the parking lot is impossible to navigate, since the patrons park on the grass in two rows {my suggestion is to park in the row closest to the road, instead of near the restaurant...so no one can park behind you}. One other note is: the location is different than where pictured on the map--it's right next to the main street/924 {in Girard park} right before you start to head up the mountain. read more

Seems like not one person working there has ever taken a servsafe course. Cross contamination is an understatement! I've had a hair in my cole slaw one time and another time in my egg salad sandwich. The food is good if you don't watch while it's being made. Sorry but if you go outside and smoke a cigarette then come in and pat a hamburger and cut up some lettuce all while only wiping your hands on a towel, I wont eat there. read more

Believe it or not, I washed dishes here one summer in 1956 when I was 12 years old. We went back yesterday to eat for the first time since 1956 and found nothing has changed, including the decor. The family who own the restaurant all work there and are very friendly. It was great catching up on the local gossip, etc. If you like nostalgia and a throwback to the past, this is the place to visit; there might be varnish on the grill and vent from a burger I ate in 1956 but don't let that stop you because the food is tasty and abundant! read more

I can't even comment on the food, because the place is DIRTY. The moment I opened the door, it was like walking into a bad neighborhood's run down apartment complex. What is wrong with the owners? Put some money into the place. Geez. Terrible. read more
