We came here and ate in one of the restaurants after shopping at Divisoria. It wasn't too crowded, but then again it was New Year's Day when we went. Stores were open on a holiday! The mall is impressive with five floors of shopping, dining and entertainment. It has over a hundred stores which I was only able to see a few including Marks & Spencer (a British-based store) and 4 movie theaters. I wish we had more time to walk around this mall because the stores were unique unlike the Mall of Asia or Seaside Cebu where many of the stores were just like the ones in our malls here in the U.S. We dined at King Chef's Seafood Restaurant on the 2nd floor. Spot was easy to find even during peak hours, and the security guys were super attentive; one even helped direct me into a tight space. Car felt totally safe the whole time with guards constantly walking around. Yeah, the hourly rate after the first two hours adds up quick (ended up paying around ₱360), but honestly for the convenience of being right in Salcedo Village and not having to circle forever looking for a spot, it was worth every peso. Indeed, the problem is not on the availability of parking slots, but rather on finding one that's reasonably priced. Anyway, one popular parking lot in the area is Paseo Center Parking. This is an open-space lot but you can be assured that your vehicle will be safe because security is pretty strict. Roving guards are present all the time. The parking lot is also open every day. The only downside to this place is its rates. If you park here on a Sunday, you only pay a flat rate of PHP 50.00. But from Mondays to Saturdays, rate for the first two hours is PHP 40.00. This is fair if you just stay within the allotted time. But staying longer than two hours could cost you an arm and a leg because you'll be charged an additional PHP 40.00 for every succeeding hour and a fraction thereof. One Saturday, my brother parked there for around nine hours and he had to pay more than PHP 300.00!

When i hear people say "mura" (cheap) I immediately think of Divisoria where you can haggle for the final price. The place is dirty and crowded and hot but it was fun seeing the many vendors and browsing through the many merchandise. We had our cousin come with us and she was the one who haggled for us LoL! I actually found some cool items here including clothing, and knock off "authentic replica" stuff. LoL! We also found a classic mahjong set for mom and a nice embroidered "barong Tagalog" (a traditional Filipino attire) for my brother-in-law for P450 which equals to $8. Oh man, we tried some street food too like corn on the cob, melon juice and Calamansi juice. I could shop and eat here all day. The place is huge. There are banks accessible around if we wanted to exchange currency. All cash here so bring enough. I guarantee you will not leave here empty handed. Review #3289

I went to classes to learn, but mostly everyone in the class already knew Tagalog and were just taking the class for college credit. The teacher was even talking to them in Tagalog. Made it hard to learn. I even asked my friends and family to help me, but they laughed whenever I said words funny. Jerks! So, when the time came to go to the Philippines (I married a Filipino-Chinese girl and her family is still in the Philippines), I didn't know what kind of trip I was in for. My wife's sister let us stay at her condo, which just so happened to be across the street from SM City San Lazaro. Kind of nice being across the street from a mall. Anyway, as I walk into the mall, I am immediately greeted by a guard who wants to touch my private parts. Or, maybe he was just checking if I had anything illegal on me. I'm a little full of myself. Anyway, I walk in and around and see what is probably one of the biggest malls I've ever been in. Yes, this is probably small in terms of malls in the Philippines (as I would later learn when I go to MOA and Megamall), but to me, it was pretty big. It was like 3 or 4 levels of all kinds of stores, from your CD-R King to a huge supermarket at the bottom. The best part about shopping here, no Tagalog required! Woo hoo! Actually, that wasn't the best part. The best part was the people! From the other shoppers to the employees, EVERYONE was just so friendly! In America, it would be hard to find a mall full of friendly and helpful retail people. That's one of the reasons I came here about 10 times during my 2 weeks in Manila. I didn't even need to buy anything, but I just liked "hanging out" at the mall. While I don't think I'll be back in this mall in the near future (my sister-in-law recently sold that condo) with the likes of the aforementioned MOA and Megamall and also with Greenhills and Divisoria having better deals, I wouldn't mind going in again if we just happened to be in the area.

It's a…read morebit of an oasis; Robinsons Place is very nice, but the area surrounding it is drab by comparison. And it is more than just a "shopping mall". In addition to retail and grocery stores, restaurants, and salons--it has offices for government services! During my stay in Manila, I purchased meals, goods and services here. It was also interesting to people watch; examine products and brands new to me; and compare the price of goods in the PHL, versus back home.

Wifey and I only ate food while we were here, and did some walking to burn off some of the calories. Robinson is one very clean mall. The air conditioning works really well which is great to have in the Philippines. Personally, I enjoy visiting shopping malls in the Philippines as compared to in the U.S.A. Robinsons Mall in Manila is a terrific spot to visit, shop, and cool down all at the same time.

The good thing is that some idle places have been opened to parking and these are surrounded by the historic walls. Among them is Plaza Maestranza, which has been well maintained by the Intramuros Administration. Some purists complain that turning such sites is not right, that they should be kept as public areas. But this would be a waste of space, considering that most of Intramuros is not exactly wanting in public areas. Besides, the cars are owned by people who are there not as tourists but as part of their jobs. What I like best about Plaza Maestranza and the rest of Intramuros is that the guards are dressed in uniforms that harken back to the time of Jose Rizal. It's a nice touch.
