Normally I park in the green lots or Uber to the airport but this time I decided to try Park 'N Go. The experience was fantastic and I would use them again. I didn't reserve a space online ahead of time because you are required to do this more than 24hrs in advance. I was worried I might not be able to find a spot and waste my time, but there were plenty of spots when I arrived. The pay station/central dispatch did a great job communicating with the drivers to make sure no one had to wait long for a shuttle to the airport or back to the lot. It is a quick 5 min drive away, not much different than parking in the green lots, but cheaper. At $12 a day, it's not cheap but it's a good alternative to the Green Lots. The buses were pretty standard the and drivers were good. The lot was well marked so you could easily find your car when you return. Pro tip: I believe they have a $1 off coupon on their website. I didn't have time to do this, but worth it if you are going on a longer trip.

I parked here for 9 days, because it was more convenient to park near the airport myself than ask for a ride. It is the cheapest parking lot I could find near DTW, and there was no way I was going to spend $25+ a day to park inside the airport. I made my reservation online, which didn't mean much, except you can save $1 a day on parking. When I was there, the parking lot was really full. My total was $111, which I paid in advance online. When you arrive, you are promptly told where to park, and a shuttle bus will follow you and take you right to the terminal in 10 minutes. A noticeable green bus will also always be sitting at the same spot ready to take people back to the parking lot. When I returned, my car was untouched right where I left it.

Pro Tips: 1) The parking attendant after you get your ticket will tell you which aisle to park in as that's where the shuttle will go to pick you up. Don't stray for the "closest" spot. You'll end up having to track down a shuttle with your luggage on tow. 2) The shuttle driver will give you a yellow ticket with your parking location. Keep this handy to tell the driver on your return trip. 3) Plan 20-25 min from when you park your car to getting off the shuttle at the airport. They'll pick up more passengers in the lot to fill up the shuttle, but they also don't take too long since there are many shuttles running. Parked at 4:45 AM on a Thursday and it took exactly 20 min. Two other trips, it took 13-15 min. 4) Make sure to have cash handy to tip the shuttle driver. Optional, but it's nice to thank the friendly drivers who work all hours in all weather and help with luggage.

I've flown in and out of this airport for years and never seem to have any major issues…read more Baggage claim is usually pretty quick too. Lots of places to eat, drink and shop at including a few local breweries like Jolly Pumpkin and Atwater. I decided to kill some time and walk the entire terminal on my last visit. I discovered a few interesting things like a lottery vending machine, salad vending machine (Farmers Fridge), duty free and an Air Margaritaville. I'll have to check that place out next time. The bathrooms are pretty good, could use an update but not the worst I've been in. Lots of art around the terminal too.

Growing up in Metro Detroit, I remember the days of when we flew out of the Berry and Smith…read moreterminals that were relics of the 1960's with literally zero upgrades and dated back to literally the stone age. Eventually, the city (or the state) decided it was time to upgrade our sad ancient airport to this. So, in comparison to what it USED to be, this whole terminal is absolutely fantastic. Normally I fly in and out of McNamara terminal since I'm a Delta girl, but this time I made the decision to fly southwest airlines, which put me in this terminal for the first time since literally 2007 or before. It was so long ago, I can't possibly remember a thing so visiting the terminal for the first time since then has been quite the experience. But, it still has some things that are mind boggling both good and bad. First off, the drop off area for off site parking (which used to be the red and green lots 30 years ago) is in literally the middle of the street and on a curb. I had to ask my driver where the entrance was and just followed the mass of people into the doors. I literally almost walked into traffic. I don't know why they made it this way since half the people I know park and fly out. If you're getting dropped off by a friend or relative, its far easier to get in and out properly by a door curbside then it is if you shuttle in like I did from a parking lot down the street. Checking in was easy once you find the right floor for that. This terminal caters to all the budget airlines like Southwest, Frontier and the like. Each airline does it slightly different once you get your bearings about you. Signage is descent with lots of space to move around in. It's set up a lot like McNamara but without a tram. Fine, I can do without the tram and water features. LOL. History lesson from the airport: Back in the day baggage claim used to be an absolute nightmare. You could wait anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half post flight to get your bags. MAYBE. Flight got in at 9:05 AM? you might see your stuff by 10 or 10:30. They greatly improved this feature so I'm grateful I didn't have to wait an hour for my bags to suddenly appear. I can tell you horror stories about the minimum hour wait time between the time you landed and the time you actually got your luggage. I'm serious. The selection of food and shopping here is great. They also have a reflection room if you need a space to calm your nerves, and the bathrooms are usually in good working order. TSA is efficient, no problems there. It's a lot of walking as any airport is and gets busy at times so I always go in prepared when that happens. Make sure to plan ahead with a phone charger, checking the screens for your flight or asking someone if you get turned around.
