It's important to recognize the difference between a new boat dealer and a used boat liquidator…read more Having a realistic expectation of what you'll find here will save you any unpleasant surprises or disappointments. I was searching online for a good beginner sloop and fell in live with the Catalina 22. I came across this company's website in my search and saw that they had 4 or 5 ranging from $2500-$5800, which was perfect for my budget. The one I was most interested in had 87 pictures posted online with about every view imaginable (before cleanup and after). Since the lot was 60 miles from me, I was glad to get such a comprehensive look at the boat before making the trip. I emailed them and received a response the same day from Tiffany. We made a trip out there to walk around and look around. We got eaten alive by Mosquitos because of all the recent rain and all the cockpits that had standing water in them. Welcome to Georgia! Didn't make any decisions that day but got a good feel for what was available. A few days later, I noticed the price was reduced. I talked to Shane who told me they were going to pave the lot and wanted to clear some of the inventory. The price was perfect for the condition of the boat now. We put a 2% deposit down over the phone and made another trip out a few days later. On our second trip we came a bit more prepared with umbrellas, bug repellant and a pickup truck to tow. I spent hours looking at the photos and already knew the condition of the boat. Took a quick look around when we got there to make sure the hatches and pop top worked correctly, found the rudder down below and inspected the trailer to make sure she was ready for the highway. She was dirty, so we wiped her down in spots to see how stubborn the dirt would be and could see she was still a beauty underneath a light film. Brian (I think) even helped us make sure the mast was lashed well for transport and helped us hook her up to the truck. There were no surprises in check out, no sneaky fees, and everything about the boat matched the detailed online description. Off we went! When we got her to dry storage we did find a couple surprises though. We found out she had not only her mainsail and jib, but a genoa, a spinnaker and a wind scoop. Extra bonus! We also discover the trailer lights are fairly new and we got the extendable trailer which makes it easier to launch since she needs a lot of water to come off the trailer with a solid cast iron swing keel under her. The only disappointment we found was that her boom was missing, but we didn't feel this was the seller's fault since they gave us all the time we wanted to crawl around and check everything. They even held umbrellas over our heads as we climbed around and inspected. I'm new to sailing and just didn't notice it wasn't there in the mix of all the stuff stored down below. I've already located a couple used booms from parted out Catalina 22's or I can buy a brand new one for $350. Just not that big a deal for me. All in all, I would absolutely recommend Lanier Marine to someone looking for a project boat, or light work restoration. If you're new to boats, bring a marine surveyor or experienced boater with you to inspect the boat thoroughly. If your looking for a brand new shiny boat, though, this isn't the place for you. I think with the nearly ready to sail condition (minor work needed), extendable trailer, and extra sails, I got a fantastic deal based on similar condition and age of the same model I've seen from the Catalina 22 National Association. If I'm ever looking for another project after this one, I'll probably look here first. Note: I have 4 stars rather than 5 because of the gravel lot, which they intend to pave soon, and the Mosquitos. Our first trip there ended quickly once we hit our tolerance for mosquito bites. But bring a can of Off and you'll be fine.

This is not even a junk yard....this is a dumping ground for old boats. Nasty place, that is an EPA nightmare. Cannot believe the county hasn't shut this place down.

NOTE: This outfitter is under new management from the previous negative reviews…read more My girlfriend and I loved the idea of renting a boat one afternoon during our short vacation to Lake Lanier. As college students, we looked for a rental company which allows 21+ renters and provides relatively good value. Aqua Sports Adventures (ASA) is located within Holiday Marina less than 5min drive from the hotel where we stayed and offers great pricing on their website. We chose the 4hr "Runabout" Bayliner rental, a fun and FAST six person motorboat. Prior to arrival, you will need to complete their online safety course (quick and straightforward). Upon arrival, expect to sign extensive paperwork and receive a thorough orientation on the operation of the boat. All in all, we had a fantastic experience and look forward to returning! Important items to remember: -Certain buoys mark a "no wake zone" in which you must travel at very minimal speed. Leave yourself at least 10min at the end of your rental to make it from the edge of the no wake zone to the ASA dock -Ask for Hayden, one of ASA's dock attendants. He made an effort to help us (first time renters) feel comfortable and passed on some solid advice and tips -Speaking of tips, apparently it is proper etiquette to tip your dock attendant. Have $10 to $20 in cash on hand for this purpose and factor that into your cost calculations. We gave Hayden $10, but I'm sure with larger groups you should probably leave more accordingly. -Part of the pre-departure process is to walk around the boat and inspect it for damage (just like a car rental). THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP. I encourage you to take a few pictures of the boat before you take it out just in case of any damage disputes and have the dock attendant thoroughly check the propeller. Thankfully, ASA is less concerned with chipped paint, but rather more focused on structural or hull damage and the propeller. As long as you don't run into or over anything and keep the propeller up in shallow water, you should expect to get your full deposit back. -Gas is not included in the original charge, and is a cost you will incur upon returning the boat. At the time of this rental, boat gas was $3.99/gal and we spent a total of $32.08 on gas. Another item to factor into your cost considerations. -In my opinion, 2hrs is too little time out on the water. My girlfriend and I had a great time exploring the lake, its various islands, and beautiful lake front homes in the 4hr period we had the boat. You really can't get bored speeding along in these little motorboats, so I'm sure a full day rental would be just as fun. -Finally, SUNSCREEN. Trust me, even the most seasoned tanners will get burned out on the water on a sunny day. Hats are a risky move, when you crank up the speed that hat will fly off your head. I recommend sunglasses, plenty of sunscreen for multiple applications, and lots of water/powerade. Coolers are allowed on the boat. Thanks for a great time, ASA! We can't wait for our future visit.

For 4 hours, it is $265 and then they add in the optional insurance of $35, tube rental of $30 and gas (about $25 for us, but will vary depending on how much you use). All in all you are looking at about $375, all in, once taxes are figured in. We had been to Lake Lanier twice before, but had only gone to Sunset Cove, which can get insanely crowded with everybody lining their boats up on the beach to the point that there is no room left to actually get in the water. It was nice to have our own boat and go exploring all the many "private" islands all over the lake. We found several little islands that we made our own for an hour at a time, stopping on one to have a picnic, another to anchor and swim, and another to relax in the sun. We spent the last hour tubing before it was time to return the boat to the rental facility. Time flew by very quickly. Four hours felt like two hours. Next time, we'll probably do the full 8 hour rental. Lake Lanier is a really cool lake with a lot to do. It is an incredible recreation spot with amazing amenities. On the downside, the lake is pretty difficult to navigate, having lots of channels, fingers and islands. Having a map of the lake is no help, either, as it felt to me like it bore no resemblance to what I was seeing with my own eyes. For proof of this, take any map of Lanier and lay it over the latest Google satellite maps pic of the lake. We made sure to keep our bearings on where the rental place was wherever we went, just to be sure we could get back. The return was hassle free as the dock-hand helped us dock and remove our things. This is definitely a fun family adventure worth your Saturday afternoon.

Their website proudly professes a $50,000 renovation to each of their 14 houseboats but I can tell you that no matter how much money you spend, if you don't keep it cleaned up it will always look worth a lot less. The walls were covered in a very dark brown paneling that made the boat feel small and cramped. The two upstairs beds (no bedrooms, as the bed went from wall to wall) were on a raised platform with the bed pad sitting on top and the two bedrooms downstairs the bed pad was on the floor. Their were 2 bathrooms, only 1 shower - but it was big enough for two (dirty looking though, icky things on the floor and on the top) and the bathroom floor, you know, around the toilet bottom were guys tend to hit when they miss the actual commode, yellow, brown, slimy, icky icky icky!!! Everywhere I looked the place was scuffed up, dirty, and had so many spiderwebs that I thought they had just decorated early for Halloween! I don't believe these boats actually go through an actual stripped down cleaning!!! When paying $600 a day, you would expect to have the houseboat in the same if not better condition than if you were staying in a hotel room. Right?!!!! There were 6 people in our party and none of us will ever rent again from Lake Lanier Harbor Marina. On Saturday night, the generator went out, we had no lights, no a/c, nothing. We managed to get back to the Harbor expecting to find the "on-call" tech waiting for us as we had put the emergency call in 30 minutes prior to our arrival, but no luck. We must have made 6 phone calls and finally he arrived. I found out that the "on-call" guy lives over an hour away. Wow, great management decision on that one guys! So after a 3 1/2 hour wait, we finally got up and running again, just in time to go to bed as by then we were exhausted, cranky, tired, and hot! The hot tub had crud and dirt swirling around in the bottom of the seats and floor, we didn't want to risk catching anything so we opted not to use it. Based on the money spent, this was the worst weekend get-away ever. Here are their details: All houseboats are complete with sleeping accommodations for 10, full kitchen, living area with entertainment center, bath-and-a-half, central heat and air, gas grill and Jacuzzi and waterslide on the top deck. Houseboats are available for rental on a daily and weekly basis. Guests can pre-order groceries to be stocked on your houseboat. Pricing In Season (April-Labor Day) / Off Season (Labor Day-March) Weekend Package $1,999 / $1,499 3 nights (Fri. 3p-Mon. 9a) Midweek Package $1,899 / $1,299 4 nights (Mon. 3p-Fri. 9a) Full Week Package $2,599 / $1,899 6 nights 24 Hour Rental $649 / $449 Monday thru Thursday 24 Hour Rental $699 / $549 Friday thru Sunday (Upon availability only)
