It was the day after our Splendour in the Grass outing (we had a day-pass for the Friday) and we were feeling a little worse for wear. Heads were aching, throats were hoarse and muscles were straining from 8+ hours dancing up a storm in a fairly dusty field. We needed sustenance. We landed at Paradox Coffee Roasters and our mood immediately brightened at the space. It's a funky spot with a large bar area where coffee is lovingly prepared and leather booth seating along the bricked wall. The outside dining area offers plenty of tables and chairs covered from the weather. The menu is small and not overly imaginative, but it covers most items you'd expect to see. I opted for scrambled eggs with gluten free toast and the Sunrise cold pressed juice (from The Cleanse Kitchen). Service was friendly and accommodating and I noticed they gave one patron's dog a cup of water outside. The eggs in all honesty were just OK. They lacked flavour and needed some kind of dairy (butter, cream, cheese - all three?) to bring them back to life. The serving was also very small but I didn't mind so much as I have a smaller appetite. The gluten free toast was normal - that is to say not a stand-out by any means, and the side of mushrooms were delicious if on the small side (I had maybe 4 medium sized mushrooms on my plate). The juice was just what I needed! Fresh and zingy and sweet with pineapple flavours. My husband opted for the Proper Cheese and Toast which looked incredible (HELLO layer of bechamel!!!) and a pot of English Breakfast tea. The teapot didn't leak (big points here) and was nicely presented. The milk was even in a small glass old-fashioned milk bottle which was very quaint. The toastie was filling and delicious according to my husband, although a little rich toward the end. Two thumbs up. All in all a great experience if mostly for the ambience. Visiting from Melbourne for a long weekend, we were keen to find good coffee & food fit for foodies somewhere close to our apartment. Paradox didn't disappoint! In fact, we ended up eating there each morning as it was so reliable. The complex it sits in is great, and provides a child friendly play space kitted in IKEA toys that is readily observable for parents choosing to sit out back. Inside there are booths & tables, communal space and private, whilst out front there are nice, undercover spaces that catch the morning sun. Something for everyone! Coffee is roasted on site & is great, food was tasty and the atmosphere reminded us of a Melbourne cafe which is always nice when it's what you're used to! Since we were there at Easter, we also enjoyed the $1 hot cross buns cooked by the bakery a few doors down - delicious! read more

Fantastic hang! I stopped by and grabbed a V60 pour over and the beans they used were awesome and fresh! Vibe was great for a coffee shop. I couldn't get over the play list they were playing the day I visited here. Definitely worth the stop if your on the hunt for good beans! I even grabbed a bag to take back to The States. read more

Came across Paradox whilst walking away from the beach. Clean and vibrant environment and the staff was friendly and fun. The 3 egg omelet was light and filled with vegetables and the side of bacon was really good. Try the proper cheese toast for an unexpected surprise. Really tasty béchamel sauce in between the ham and the vintage cheddar. Chef knocked it out of the park on this one. Coffee was strong and thick! A real kick in the pants. This has got to be the worst place in Surfer's Paradise. No, I take that back, the whole of Australia. Rude staff. Nobody attends you if you stand at the door and completely ignores you. I should've read the reviews before coming here. Absolutely rude. When you seat yourself they give you attitude and say that you have to ask 'permission'? I understand how some places have seating arrangements but the place was empty. There were literally two people at 7am drinking coffee. Please train your staff on how to treat people with respect and ask them to stop rolling their eyes. read more
