I grew up in the deepsouth from Texas to Virgina. I grew up on southern eats. Nowhere north of the Mason Dixon line have I found soul food as spot on to my Grandfather and Fathers cookin until 2PEACHES. I'm not talking the trendy stuff some call soul food. I'm talking about southern seasonings, southern traditional food done correctly. The restaurant looks way too modern and nice to represent the flavors, the aromas wafting in the air. This foods tradion was that you had to know a "Miss Hattie Mae" selling dinner plates out of a shotgun house kinda good. This is food made in a spot with saw dust on the floors and blues playing on a juke box. Great service as well. Greens had just enough vinegar. The catfish had a crispy crust, but soft flakey meat. Seasoned perfectly. Yams could have used some lemon slices cooked with them. Nothing better than sweet potatoes with those thin slices of lemon candied with them. (If you're reading, thinly sliced lemons make them pop. Still tasted great. Price. ATL, Dallas, Texas, Jackson, Mississippi? $45 - $65 before tip. Here in JC, under $30. So the price was good for JC thanks to this not adding Big City tax. Drawback? Yes. No cornbread or cornbread muffin. No way! Way. I love to eat greens with my fingers and a hunk of cornbread to soak up the pot liquor. This was kind of a snag, but not enough to stop me from throwing down. Last drawback isn't their fault. That is on me that I live almost 600 miles south in Texas. Thank God. I'd be 400 pounds eating here weekly. Take care.
