Hello, I just wanted to write about my experience with surgery aftercare at Paradise Cottage surgery aftercare. Nurse. Norma came to pick me up at my Doctors office she brought me straight back to her home where I was taken care of with the utmost excellence, kindness, care, efficiency, and most of all comfort. I felt very safe in the very capable hands of Nurse Norma and her excellent staff. My every need was anticipated and taken care of. They even have the most beautiful support pup named Marlow. II really feel like I had the best care possible it was truly a blessing. I would recommend everyone to come here after surgery. It is an excellent after care facility with everyone there who really make you feel seen , cared for , and listened to it was an awesome experience . I stayed here one night following surgery. They were recommended by my doctor and I am so grateful that I did stay there. I felt very safe and well cared for. I had my own CNA who was very attentive and I was also reassured that there was an RN present in the building at all times. They were all so caring and kind. Also, the bed was very comfortable and they had other amenities, such as a TV which were nice to have but all I wanted to do was sleep. I spoke with other friends who have had surgeries and have stayed in nursing facilities following surgery and I am certain that I received much superior care. There small were ups and downs when I was there and I'm sure it was not usual because of the other reviews I see posted had much better experiences. Without explaining the smaller err of details but to focus on the positive reviews, the aids/assistants were very friendly, warm and accommodating. I felt cared for during my recovery because of them. The little things made a big difference. Norma (RN also owner) does a decent job instructing her aides on directives according to patients needs when she's there. Since she's knowledgeable and experienced I felt much at ease in case of a medical emergency with her there. Without getting into detail. Would I recommend this place? Yes. It's worth it if you are in pain or bed ridden. I just had a bad cook in the morning shift during my departure so we went to macdonalds drive thru on way home. read more

I stayed at Paradise Cottage overnight after my surgery, as was required by my surgical center. I was initially hesitant about doing this, but It turned out to be an EXTREMELY positive experience. I had a private room in a lovely single-family home where I was lavished with care after my surgery. My main nurse, Verona, was knowledgeable, extremely kind and caring, funny, and just a pleasure to spend time with. My medications were administered to me as prescribed by my doctor and appropriate meals were brought to my bed. All I did was rest in bed and enjoy the kindness and the company. II was very fortunate to get a room four days before surgery after my other arrangements fell through. I was hesitant at first to be in a home care where my husband was not with me. Due to Covid restrictions, he couldn't visit either. I was so nervous but Norma was the sweetest person ever! From the moment she picked me up she was amazing! Her staff also amazing! Super attentive and I never had to ask for anything. They were always on time with my meds. This was better than any hospital. I slept really good since it was quiet compres to a noisy hospital. The BEST care any patient could have their first day of recovery. I truly don't know where to begin. So I was referred to this place through one of the BEST PLASTIC SURGEON Dr. Stephen Bresnick office. At first I was hesitant because I wasn't sure about being away from family to help take care of me and with Covid no one's allowed to visit, but I was more than wrong about being hesitant. I had a nurse around the clock during my 2 days stay. One for the morning, other for the afternoon and the last for throughout the night. Nurse Norma is the BIG BOSS. There was nurse Verona, Amini, and Jillian. Ever single of one of them is truly truly the most caring attentive best caregivers ever. They don't miss a beat with anything. My meds, my walk, my food etc. I can just go on and on and rave about them endlessly. The home is absolutely beautiful in a wonderful neighborhood. If you need an after care facility you can't go wrong with Paradise Cottage. I had been to another after care years ago and it was nothing like this. This place is absolutely perfect. The care, the attention and every need is taken care of. Can't say enough good things about this place. I was so impressed I decided to stay 3 days instead of the one I initially was scheduled for. Nurse Norma and nurse Verona was so caring and they made sure I was always comfortable and they made sure to feed me things I liked and did everything for me by taking me to my the follow up appointments. I needed for nothing. Even the night nurse (Jillian?) was wonderful and very soothing and caring. I did not get much time to interact with her since I was asleep most of the time but this is Definitely a 5 star recovery place for post op!!! read more

I just spent the day and night at Paradise Cottage after a recommendation from my surgeon and can't praise this place enough. I knew that I would be in pain and uncomfortable and received amazing care from Norma and the entire staff! As others have said, the bed (adjustable) is incredibly comfy - not a horrible hospital bed and every need was attended to at all times. My room kind of reminded me of a charming bed and breakfast. Each nurse was gentle, caring and only concerned about my comfort and needs. I was on a liquid diet the first day but received plenty of water, juice and delicious chicken noodle soup (seriously) from a local deli, on a lovely bed tray with beautiful fresh flowers to look at. The next morning, delicious scrambled eggs, toast, fruit and coffee. Again, nothing like horrible hospital food. Also, round trip transportation with a nurse from surgical center and back the next day so my husband dropped me off in the am for surgery and picked me up the next day at the surgeon's office after my dressings were changed. I'm certainly not the first to give this wonderful care facility 5 stars but please do yourself a favor. Trying to save some money by going home after surgery is NOT the way go. I have a wonderful, loving husband who I needed to get a great night of sleep that first night so he COULD do everything for me during my recovery. Having a round the clock nursing staff to get me through the first 24 hours, (the worst of it with pain management, anesthesia wearing off, dizziness, etc...) was critical in my recovery process. Even if you have help at home or think you'll be fine, be good to yourself. In the long run, you'll have a more successful surgical outcome and recovery. I was initally nervous to stay away from my husband after surgery but we were both quickly put at ease when Norma picked me up. She drove me straight to her home and catered to my every need. I was immediately introduced to a wonderful, wonderful nurse Verona who was with me for 12 hours and could not have been more personable and caring. She made sure I was comfortable, that my meds were admistered in a timely manner, she brought me food as I became hungry and was inviting when my husband came by to sit with me for a few hours. When I was finally able to eat solid foods both Norma and Verona sat with me for an hour and checked my vitals as I continued to feel extremely hot and naseaous even through I did not have a fever. Later in the evening Verona came by to dismiss herself for the night and introduce the evening nurse who was quiet but equally as caring and on top of taking care of me (although I was sad to see Verona go). The next morning Norma came by my room to let me know she would be taking me back to my appointment so that I could let my husband know to pick me up at the surgeons. The food was delicious, she uses Smart water bottles that are opened in front of you, they did not look into my bag until they asked first and my medications were always in the room with me. The home was extremely clean, quiet and cooled on a hot summer day. I never felt like a burden or that I was not taken care of. On 6-18-2012, my wife (Veronica) had tummy tuck surgery center where Dr. George staff arranged the first nite after care for her. A woman named Norma picked up my wife, as I followed them, and drove to Paradise Cottage in Northridge. Norma was amazing and her caring for Veronica had a tremendous effect on Veronica. Now Norma is a christian, which made it all the better! I can not say enough great things about the care Veronica received there. It provided all the comforts of home along with very professional nurses - Nurse Norma - Nurse Verona and a sweet young lady that assisted middle of the night with medicine and IV. I just had surgery today and my doctor had told me that I really should go to a after surgery retreat. He sent me to a place called Paradise cottage after care. The nurses here are so wonderful I feel like a queen even though I'm in pain always checking on me and making sure I'm comfortable I recommend this place to everybody who is having surgery to stay One or two nights you were not regret it. Norma, Veronique and tonyann I have not met the fourth nurse yet Jillian comes in at midnight but I have no doubt she is just like the three nurses I've already met. The surgery center suggested I stay at Paradise Cottage for aftercare, I didn't think it was necessary but I agreed. Norma picked me up after my surgery, she was great and made me feel very comfortable. I can not say enough about the aftercare, first off, I loved Verona she is so personable, caring and kind, also the other nurse is quiet but just as good, the care was so great that I stayed 2 nights instead of one. The nurses give you your scheduled medicines, take your blood pressure every couple of hours, make sure you have water(Smart or PH water), the bed is comfortable AND the food was great! Verona, Verona, Veronal! She is the nicest LVN. Despite me going to an aftercare kicks my and screaming, Verona made it palatable. I love her style and the way she is very good at simply motivating me to do what was best for me. I don't like to be told what to do because I'm an adult woman and it's a successful biz. I was picked up by Norma from Encino Surgery Center and had an easy ride to nearby Paradise Cottage. I could immediately tell I was in good hands. Norma has a calm demeanor and she is kind and caring, not to mention knowledgeable and highly skilled. We pulled up to the house and I was immediately greeted by a beautiful flower garden in the walk way to the house. Inside I had my own private room decorated in soothing tones and well appointed with everything I needed including a flat screen TV which I made good use of. My room and bathroom were impeccably clean.Norma immediately assisted me comfortably into bed very carefully and set everything at arms reach for me. Verona took over my care and immediately brightened up the room with a beautiful bouquet of fresh gladiolus and her radiant smile and bubbly personality. I was given a bell to ring if I needed anything. All of the nurses were so attentive and on point I really did not have much need for it. All of my medical needs were tended to timely with professionalism and compassion. My vitals were monitored and meds were given around the clock keeping me as comfortable as possible. I recently spent a full 24 hours at the Paradise Cottage after having had a fairly invasive surgery by Dr. Sanders. After having made my decision to have Dr.Sanders complete my procedure I was informed that he recommend (insisted) that I also go to after care at Paradise Cottage. Initially I was very comfortable with this recommendation. I decided to do some research about Paradise Cottage. The only information that I could find were two reviews on Yelp. One of the ratings caused me great concern. I discussed the issues with my family and made the decision to follow the recommendations of my doctor. I am SO happy that I didn't allow someone with what can only be described as a personal vendetta to change my mind. My experience was very soothing, caring and comforting. Ms. Norma called me a few days prior to the surgery to give me last minute instructions, including informing me about visiting hours, and to inquire about any concerns that I had. On the day of the surgery she and one of her assistances picked me up and took me to her home. I was monitored and cared for by a very accomplished medical staff. My husband was made to feel comfortable during the time he visited. He was also given verbal instructions and shown how to care for me during the next two weeks of my recovery. My experience was extremely pleasant and I would recommend this home for any of my friends or family. read more
