I visited paradise aquarium on queens to get a fish tank , fish , stuff to put in fish tank and got plenty of info from the shop worker which I didn't really understand but my godson is smart and understood fully . My cuz's boy wanted a fish tank in his room and his father was too busy doing nothing so I volunteered to take the boy here and he was happy with all the neat stuff I payed for . Good variety of tropical fishes , different styles and size of tanks , endless supplies of stuff to put in tank and more stuff to maintain and keep tank clean and fishes alive . It's also a general pet store but emphasis is on the little swimming critters. Well worth the 300 bucks I dished out and my godson is a responsible young lad and I bet will keep the tank and fishes running smoothly or to be specific swimming smoothly.4 stars on my yelp meter . read more

The two guys that work here on Thursday and Saturday- one might be related to the owner. Those guys are nasty, rude bums. They lie about prices, claim to not have items they have, and most unfortunately they treat you with contempt. Total disrespect- rudeness to the point of being shocking to customers with good money. Sad sorry bums those two. The owner Gary is a good guy. Hence the 1 star. Just for him. read more

My son called them today for 53 measly seconds and the guy was rude to him. He was just asking him about some fish and if they had them in stock. It was going okay in the beginning and then he goes to him I can't stay on the phone with you all day and I have other customers and etc. He was on speaker phone, so I stepped in and told him not to be rude. How are you truly that busy at 10 AM on a Thursday? And fine if you are busy just politely say that. We are not expecting you to stay on the phone with anyone for hours. Again, the call lasted for less than a minute and he lost his patience. Not everyone can go to the store all the time for various reasons. Sometimes people call to check before they spend time and money making a trip. Part of customer service is helping people over the phone and learning how to speak to the public. I would have made the trip out to the store once I was done working, BUT my kid wanted to know what was in stock and NOT. Its a fair and reasonable expectation. read more

My daughter loves betta fish, this one was our 3rd. We can't seem to find them anywhere. My husband stumbles upon this place. I mean we bought the fish er had no other choice . BUT not only did the place smell which I can understand I felt it was just so filthy . Like how you take care of fish . Idk what you need to take care of fish BUT it was purely gross in there. I waited for my husband outside. read more

See all

They have a good selection of fish. But the service is horrible with the 2 kids that are in there. You never get approached. And fish tank equipment is overpriced read more

I hope the owners realize their teenagers up front scare customers away. They'll make it very, very known not to ask them for help-- whatever they're watching on their phone is more important. I currently have 4 tanks. 2 axolotls, 2 betta tanks, and a shrimp tank. Trust me. It would be super convenient to be able to go to this store, as it's around the corner from my apartment. My 2 experiences there were THAT BAD. read more

It's ok, I like it,especially since it is closer than my other to go to spots for fish. Fair prices the workers are nice.

The good was that it was the closest Aquarium to the house, and service personnel was friendly and responsive. On the other hand, place was a little gloomy, but they have all the stuff you might need for a basic fish tank setup. Just wish they brightened up the place, and reduced the humidity a bit, it would go a long way to make the shopping experience there so much better. read more

They have everything you need if you own an aquarium and staff is extremely knowledgeable about both equipment and animals. Incredible service. Would give 10 stars if I could. read more

Never seen animals in such poor conditions. Really heartbreaking. You can tell some of the staff are passionate about animals but management is probably the issue here read more

It's look like a little bit empty all the time , but after I won a fist in a parade we want an another one , this is the closest "pet store" in the area (actually only tank/aquarium pets lol) . It was surprised busy and they very helpful and nic read more

This place is depressing. When I got there, the birds were in small cages behind glass, in a dark cabinet. (Some guy came while I was there and turned on the lights but why were the birds left in the dark in the first place???) The rodents were over crowded. The fish tanks where dirty and the water seemed skuzzy. The kid who helped me was rude. For example, my girlfriend commented to me that she could find something for a certain price and he cut her off saying, "no, you can't find this at that price." (We did) He didn't seem to want to be bothered with any of our questions and acted like helping us was distracting him from hanging out with the other guys in the store. Then he sold me XL pellets for guppies. Terrible terrible terrible experience. read more

There very helpful, they are able to answer any questions I had. I would recommend this aquarium store to everyone

Recently I bought some shrimp and nano fish from Paradise Aquarium for my planted tank and I just have to say, it was awesome! The staff at Paradise Aquarium were super helpful and really knew their stuff. read more

This pet shop is great and convenient prices are a little high regarding air pumps and fish tank equipment. If you need help try to get the owner Gary to help you, the young's kids working there have attitude and they act miserable. They don't want to do anything. read more

Sold me a bag full of crickets without air and they all died within 10 minutes. When I returned the Teenager clerk wouldn't replace them. He said he didn't want to take a financial loss ($1.50!) The store must not be doing well. read more

Man this place is the actual worst. The animals are miserable. Fish tanks disgusting, half dead and dead fish everywhere. Literal children running the place that have no idea what anything is. I don't know why I keep trying to come here, the drive elsewhere is worth it. I came form coral glue today. The kid had no idea what I was talking about, tried to hand me epoxy three times and even tried to argue with me that epoxy is the only thing used to hold down coral. What a joke! I'm done. read more

It's the only aquarium store in the area and it has a variety of selection, but the place reaallly needs to be cleaned! I didn't want to touch any of the products bc some of them were expired and others were covered in dust/webs. They also sell other pets which I don't think is a good idea, especially with a lot of the animals not having proper enclosures. read more

I give this place five stars because it is clean. their knowledgeable they know what fish could cope with one another the staff is very helpful . read more

rude workers I was trying to get fish and he had head phones in. Kept giving attitude.

This is a terrible place, they do t care about the animals they have there, all the tanks are dirty, all the animals seems sick, a lot of dead fish there. People on their phones instead of paying attention to the animals. read more

Giving four stars because of the staff's pet care knowledge. For example, with some Petland Discounts stores, the staff can lazy and rude. That's not the case with Paradise Aquarium. Paradise Aquarium's staff will take the time to answer your questions. If you love reptiles, fish and other exotic animals, this place is good. I've never had a problem with them. read more

I don't understand why so may yelpers are complaining about not being able to get dog and cat food at an aquarium store. Based on the name alone, you should be able to tell this place specializes in fish and anything else they have is probably for neighborhood convenience. As an aquarium store they have everything you need. Very good selection of freshwater and interesting saltwater selection too. Some decent frags and lots of rock and driftwood selection (though I can never bring myself to pay money for a piece of pleasant looking firewood). I will say that the yelper who wrote about parrot fever had me freaked enough that I didn't even venture into bird-land. I don't really doubt the story, it's a small store and they probably would be better served focusing on the aquatics. read more

This place is awful, the fish tanks are full of dead fishes. I bought two guppies the other day and as soon as i put them in my tank i had ICK all over my other fish that I've had for almost a year. Now I'm left with no fish... Lets not even talk about the rude stuff, I've been there a couple of times and only once i had this young guy that was very nice but other than that! terrible! Will never go here again. read more

I think given the times and the area this place is not too bad. Sometimes the selection is a little slim, but they seem to keep healthy fish. The ones we've bought from them were all in good condition, minus one betta that died of a mystery issue. The owner is a nice guy. Service is better when he is around. It's cool that they raise up the fry whenever their fish have them. Decent cichlids. Currently has good selection of healthy tetras. read more

The young boy sold me a dying shrimp and told me it was just pregnant. He asked me if I was fine with having a pregnant shrimp and I said yes. When I saw it I asked if its dying because its orange and he responded no, its just pregnant. I got home and it's already dead in the bag. If I added it to my tank it could of infected all of my other shrimp with anything it could of had. Don't trust anything this shop tells you. read more

I would not recommend buying any type of animal from this place. All of the tanks look dirty and brown, the birds are kept in very small cages. Hamsters do not have enough bedding to burrow and the gerbils look very weak and sick and barely have any food. Their bowl was mainly full of their bedding. Just today I saw a baby gerbil which was probably the result of misgendering the male or the female and placing them together. If not, being that I've seen the same animals every time I have come into this store, they should not be breeding gerbils as no one has been purchasing them. The large rats are also kept together, about 4 in a 10 gallon tank. There was also a turtle that did not have enough water and was very murky. This is unacceptable. read more

I recently bought a leopard gecko and had many questions about care and what I needed to buy for my little friend. I go to Paradise Aquarium nearly every week because they provide exactly what I need. They're experts at what they do and have everything I need! read more

Its an Aquarium that has everything that my local Aquarium does not anymore. It has bulk rock, a great selection of freshwater fish, saltwater fish and the coral department is on point. I wish this place was closer to me since I find the quality of the fish selection second to none. I find it hard these days to find places that take fish seriously anymore and this place delivers, big time. The owners are very friendly and I also got to purchase a huge tub of Tertamin flake food for like $11 because they buy it in bulk and sell it like that. Awesome. These guys have my business read more

Great place they have everything you want and if they don't they can get it for you. They carry lots of products love this place..

They have a so-so selection of cat food/items. The store is often muggy. The staff ignores you when you walk in. They don't deliver. If it weren't the only pet store in the area, it probably wouldn't be in business. read more

Although the staff wasn't amazingly friendly to me, I really love this store. One of my favorite reasons is the reptiles. In the past, I've purchased bearded dragons from Petland and other local pet stores. But they would all die within the year of something. I bought my current little here about 3 years ago and he is absolutely gorgoues! He's healthy, growing more and more everyday, and his colors are vibrant. Will be buying another dragon soon from here! read more

Paradise Aquarium - 3 years old today! - Pet Stores Near Me - Ridgewood, New York

Paradise Aquarium has a large selection of pet products, and a friendly staff. If something is not in stock, they will be happy to order it for you, and will usually have it within a week. I have two cats and a turtle, and the staff has been very helpful in answering questions I have had concerning pet care and what foods & products would be the best choice. Highly recommended. read more

While I hate to bad-mouth local businesses, this place is not my top choice for a pet store. My biggest bone to pick with them comes from my love of all that is cute and furry. Their back room is teeny tiny and crowded full of bird, rabbit and mice cages. While small animals can be kept together, they do not enjoy the loud squaking of the nearby birds, nor the high heat most birds are accustom to. The guys in here are helpful and sweet, but they need to up their animal maintenance. read more

Pretty much what everyone else has said. The place is really hot and muggy. They don't have much of a selection and they are a bit on the expensive side. The guys are very friendly and knowledgeable though. read more

Good selection of freshwater, marine, and cichlids. Tanks looked well maintained with a fairly large selection and prices that seem to be on par with the area. Also a neat selection of reptiles in the back room. In Queens I would say this is probably the second best aquarium store you could go to after Fishtown. read more

I agree 100 %. This place is like going into a Jungle with the humidity and small place. They dont have a vase amount of items. There also very EXPENSIVE.
