Why we choose American Heritage…read more To be completely honest it was for the all day Kindergarten. For a working mom, having all day Kindergarten was a lifesaver. My youngest started school, and a week later my 4th grader asked if she could go to AHSJ as well. A little background on D'Layne (4th grade when she started AHSJ), she had a heart condition. She had always gone to public school, but was falling in the cracks and falling behind. D'layne excelled at AHSJ in ways that I cannot explain. She loved math, science and history, but always struggled in spelling and reading. After her 4th grade year, she was excelling in ways that made me proud to watch her grow. It was the same with 5th grade, but towards the end of 5th grade her health started to change. The summer between her 5th and 6th grade years, D'layne had a major stroke. She spent the summer relearning to read, write, and to find her words. We also knew at that time that her heart was failing her, and she would have to be placed on the transplant list immediately. She spent the summer back and forth getting testing done and was placed on the transplant list on August 27th, 2018. 6 days after starting her 6th grade year... The day we got the call that D'Layne was getting her new heart, she was at school. That was the best place for her to be, the administration gave her hugs and kisses, the school stopped and prayed for my daughter. This is a family, not just a school. 6 days after her transplant, I had to make a call to her school, that she was not going to make it. Where her heart was perfect, her body had been shutting down. Our family, AHSJ, cried with us, cherished us, and supported us. It has not stopped. My angel was granted her Angel wings on September 26, 2018. On May 2, 2019 (7 months later) they performed the most amazing tribute to her at their dance performance and included my sweet 7 year old to honor her sister. So, all day Kindergarten brought us to AHSJ, but the family bond of every student, teacher, administrator is the reason we stay!!

Welcome to the school where learning is optional, professionalism is imaginary, and authority is…read moretreated like a personality disorder. Mr. Hawkins is gone now--but don't relax, because they apparently decided the fix was to add more principals, and somehow the high school principal is 10x worse, which honestly deserves recognition for effort alone. Staff behavior is where things really go off the rails. Ms. Edith, an office employee, physically grabbed my sister and dragged her down the stairs, leaving marks on her arm--yes, dragged, very educational, very "safe learning environment." Both my sister and I were harassed by staff, and I was belittled so badly I ended up bawling my eyes out, because nothing prepares kids for life like grown adults on a power trip. I went here for three years--THREE--and my parents and I can confidently say this place is a masterclass in pretending to be a school while failing students at every possible level. Bad teachers everywhere, staff who shouldn't be around children, and an administration that confuses discipline with ego. And if you're wondering why you don't see many negative reviews, don't worry--they delete those too, because accountability clearly isn't part of the curriculum. If you think your kids are going to learn anything here, that's genuinely funny. They'll learn how unfair systems work and how adults fail kids in real time--but education? Absolutely not. DONT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.

If I could rate 0 I would I went here for 7th and a week of 8th before I dropped out. (2021-2022)…read moreMr. Yund and maybe 1 or 2 other teachers were actually really sweet and made that time really fun. Mr. Snyder, Ms. Gustofason, Mr. Alvarado, Ms. Hedry, "Dr" Allen, the principal, vice principal, and my counselor. Treated us like shit I got sexually harassed by a student and when I told my counselor she just told me to move my seat. Mr. Snyder 100% just bullied his students everyone he doesn't care to know is "rude". Ms. Gustofason saluted Hitler in the middle of class. Mr. Alvarado liked to say slurs, Threw a chair, humiliated me and other students. Ms. Hendry was so creepy towards me (staring, favoritism, etc) everyone thought she had a crush on me. "Dr" Allen wouldn't actually teach he would tell made up stories 24/7. But I think it was just time for him to retire. The principal would read newspapers the whole lunch other than to yell. I never saw him other than that. The vice principal mainly would just block off the bathrooms at lunch. You would have to stay in the lunch room but you couldn't go to the bathroom during class. I got tripped so often by kids at this school I got an awful muscle injury and couldn't get out of chairs. DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL
