They started building the new location (PEAC) across the street so she was able to experience this preschool in the old and new location - it was such a privilege to experience both venues, but the quality of teaching and caring for the children never got affected. We loved the staff and the love they had for all the kids who went here! At first, at age 3, she was hesitant and scared to be left by mommy in a new place with unfamiliar faces. However after just the first week, she showed enthusiasm, expressed a strong desire to go back, and just so happy to be coming there! Miss Valerie, the director, was super friendly and personable and put me at ease in leaving my child in the hands of her and her caring staff. Miss Wanda was a pleasure to deal with every day, and she is just the most sweetest woman you will ever meet! We sure do miss this place as my little one graduated, and from time to time, she still says, "I miss my old school, mom!"

She said she got in trouble a lot, mind you she was almost 4 years old at the time. They did weird punishments I thought you'd only do to middle school or high school students, like make them sit out in the hall for being bad! We moved out of town and recently visited family near by and drove past the building...my daughter noticed the building and began to tell me her memories there. One was that her and a friend hid under a table together because she said they were afraid of one of the teachers. I've been meaning to do a review but never got the chance until after I heard her scared, first school memories today. There were a few things that were off about this place to me. For example, my wife went in to talk to the teachers to see how our daughter was doing. I don't know if it wasn't a normal thing for them to talk to parents about progress but the whole staff came in a small room as if they were all cornering my wife thinking that she was going to chew them out or criticize their process, when she just wanted to find out how her child is doing. My wife came home and told me how weird and awkward it was. It seemed as if they normally had parents come in and get mad so they had to all stack up to over power the parent. Needless to say we pulled our daughter out and put her in a more local preschool group and it was like night and day! She loved her new preschool teachers, came home excited and happy, and constantly told us she did not want to go back to stepping stone. Basically, they seemed to view my daughter as a problem and a burden, yet we heard nothing about this nor were given any guidance on correcting anything, until my wife approached them to find out why she was always sad and discouraged when we picked her up. They seemed to lack skills on addressing personal/individual skills and only seemed to go "by the book" for how to handle the cookie cutter child! I hope it's better now but sad that my daughter had these experiences.

I first met Miss Janice before I ever had children. I was teaching sixth grade at a public school…read morein town and knew she was also a licensed educator. I've had the opportunity to be around Miss Janice on social levels and also in the community. I was always impressed with her calmness and the way she smiled and treated children and adults alike. I knew long before having children that I wanted her to be my child's preschool teacher. In 2019, I now had a child old enough to attend preschool so we filled out the form and returned it to her home bright and early on the first day of registration so that we could be sure to get a spot the following school year. It was a snowy day and we were covered in slush and mud, but she wanted me to be able to tour the preschool and let my son see where he would be going to school. She got on his level and spoke kindly to him, she immediately figured out his interests as she walked him around the classroom and she explained everything to him and I. She told him she was excited to be his teacher and that she would see him soon. He has been in preschool for five months now and I have seen dramatic improvement in his overall behavior and his excitement for learning. She is a loving teacher who guides children with praise and positive reinforcement. She sticks to the rules, but in a loving manner. Every morning, he is so excited to go to preschool and get some stuff ready for the day before we walk out the door. He has learned a good routine, he has made good friends, and we like the group of children and parents that also attend this preschool. Her sister and Co-teacher, Miss Jen, is also wonderfully poised and kind. Both of them have regal personalities that make me feel confident my child is learning and growing happily. The communication between teacher and parent is very good as she uses take-home notes, email, and a texting service. I feel safe having my child in her home and feel safe when he is in her care for field trips and other outings. I would highly recommend this preschool because of the growth I have seen in my own child and the happiness it has brought to our family.

We were greatly blessed moving into a neighborhood close to this school and by the grace of God our children got in at the right time. Before each school year starts, each teacher reaches out to the parents and makes house calls - a visit to the child's home to meet the parents in person, give them the curriculum, expectations, and guidelines the children are supposed to have so the parents and children know the teacher's expectation throughout the school year. The teachers also give parents their contact info so the parents can easily connect with the teacher at anytime. I mean, what school can you say, that teachers come to your house and makes a personal visit to connect with the family directly? I do not know of any except this school. In addition, this school only has one class per grade - one class of kinder, one class of first grade, etc. The ratio of teacher to children is around 20 to 1. They keep the size of class small so they can keep the class intimate. They also have a therapist on staff for students' mental and emotional health! They keep the students actively reading all year long by having "battle of the books" per grade and have awesome incentives. Julie, the principal, is a "go-getter" and treats all of her students like they are her own. You can feel the love of JHCS staff for each student, and each student is known by their name. It truly is a second family. Besides all of the great things I already mentioned, JHCS is ranked #1 Best Public Elementary Schools in the area and has a grade of "A" in overall niche grade!

Yes, 3 year old kids can be nightmares (and mine is no exception), but receiving a TEXT from the teacher saying he couldn't return after only 2 days seems absurd. I asked her if he could have another chance. NO. I asked if I could observe the class and his behavior. NO. I asked if there was anything else I could do because I had to work from home and I depended on those 3 hours to get work done. NO. My experience with the school was entirely unprofessional and disappointing. There was ABSOLUTELY clear favoritism shown to some students versus others when I would drop off and pick up, which was very frustrating to see. A side note: Children often act out when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe in a situation. Obviously I wasn't there during the class, but I think that is something to think about when choosing a preschool for your own child.
