The food is okay. I have eaten here quite a few times over the last 5 years or so. The food is nothing special, nor is it terrible in my experience, but I may have been lucky and avoided the bad experiences reported by other reviewers. Only once or twice has the food (or some of it) been "below par", i.e. not even up to usual mediocrity.
The place? Well, this is where PeC did good and got to me. Not that it was ever a stand-out place with exceptional service, but it was a nice place for a relaxed and low-key dinner with - in my opinion - the right hint of "posh" (making it worth paying too much when exactly that atmosphere was the priority for the evening, and not the meal). However, this is no more. Such a place relies on keeping the right balance and always keeping in mind that the place is nothing more than the people: The people working there and the people going there.
Nowadays it's just a "posh" restaurant with a very poor service (see some of the other reviews). If any actual service at all: My latest (and obviously last) experience was booking a table outside for a family dinner (which was confirmed by email), arriving on time just to be told that we could not get a table outside (even though one was marked reserved and not in use when we were there), and NOT being offered any apologies, nor any other solution than taking a table inside (it was a lovely warm summer evening) without any kind of compensation for the inconvenience, i.e. the blatant disposition of having given our table to another party and/or keeping the unoccupied table for another party.
If you don't mind overpaying for decent food and receiving (or risking) lousy service besides chancing that you might not have a table at all, then by all means go for it. Otherwise I would suggest that you go somewhere else: there are plenty of better alternatives in Berlin, and even very close by. read more
