Perfect opportunity to pick up a last minute gift and grab a locally made card. It was the coolest idea and brought people into Type High. I loved their prints and picked up a few cards and posters on the trip. The space is on Railroad St. Between Rohrbach's and the Public Market. You'll see a small sign on the door and go up a flight of stairs that leads into the studio. It's filled with all the cool letterpress stamps and tons of their prints were hanging on the wall and boxes filled with different themes cards, everything from happy birthday to babies and anniversary cards. Lots of quippy imagery and sayings, like "Happy F*cking Whatever!" We have a ton of awesome letterpress studios in ROC so it's cool to see the variety between the different spaces. Cards were $4 and posters were $18.

I had not been in this store for awhile, but it was much bigger and nicer than I remembered. I found myself wanting to buy a desk plaque that said "how do I block you in real life?" :) I went in for a musical birthday card. I played with all of them for awhile until I found one I liked. I also ended up wanting a stuffed animal of Max from the Grinch, an ornament, the desk plaque I mentioned above, and birthday cake Godiva truffles that I saw while I was in line at the register. We started off thinking we didn't care too much about the invitations--because we thought (incorrectly), who remembers an invitation? But once we started looking, we decided that we didn't want something out-of-the-box and boring. Amy created a gorgeous invitation suite and customized it further with a little art we requested. And she did these gorgeous letterpress invitations better price than the boring, digitally printed generic stuff we saw at invitation stores. When we received our invitations, I didn't want to take them out of the gorgeous boxes she packed them in--her packaging alone was Pinterest worthy! I would hire her just to wrap holiday gifts if I could, it was that lovely. But alas, we opened the boxes, assembled the invitation suites and mailed everything out. And the rave reviews are POURING in. I never expected it, but we are getting emails and phone calls from loads of friends and family telling us how our invitations are the best they've ever seen. Despite my love of birds, I had never been to the Bird House. That changed when I saw they were…read moreoffering free bird feeder cleaning (I believe they do this twice a year). I dropped off three tube feeders during the week and got a call over the weekend to pick them up. The service is free, but they take donations for Wild Wings (excellent non-profit in Mendon Ponds Park that cares for animals who are too injured to live in the wild). The Bird House does have a wide range of bird seed and feeders, but there are plenty of gifts, games, and decor to keep you browsing for a while. They have birding and garden books, binoculars, and jewelry. My father-in-law is outdoorsy, so we put together a gift basket of some hand tools, a bird seed scoop, and some squirrel repellent items (all natural!) I also saw that they do a free puzzle swap on occasion. If you like gardening or birding (or know someone who does) this is a great place to check out.
