This is a small hidden gem just across from the street from Starbucks. It has a quite a few selection of anime,romance novels, young adult, cooking/travel books, children's books etc. If you're like me and miss the tactile stimulation of turning pages, marking, highlighting and annotating then a bookstore is for you. I absolutely hit this place before all others. Everyone in my family has found a book they have wanted anytime we have gone together. They have a great selection for teens, and I LOVE that they have many of the Dean Kootnz and Stephen King and mystery. They do have niche collections too. even still have Audio on CD's. The manga selection is slim though as many are not coming in to them. They are a previously loved book store. Better save your arms and grab a basket because I always end up regretting not grabbing a basket. They also have bookmarks for you to grab one as you check out. there is a lot to take in so take your time. they have limited hours from 11-4 every day and have parking in the back as well. the staff is always friendly and amazing. they have a trad window that you can bring books in for an exchange for more to read. read more

I don't live in the area and found the store via a Yelp search for used bookstores. I'm purely a romance reader and had called ahead to find out if they had any romance books before I stopped by - unfortunately and unbelievably I've found some used bookstores just don't carry them. I know this is by choice because we know how large the romance book business is! Paperbacks Unlimited certainly does! I wish I live closer! I'd be by a lot to peruse and buy books from their shelves! I've been to this store a few times over the past decades and since I don't live in town anymore I'd honestly forgotten it existed. I was in town visiting family and asked my mom where I might be able to buy audio books. Did they have a chain book store around? She said we had to go to Paperbacks Unlimited and we headed out that afternoon. She wasn't sure where the audio books were located but I walked into the store, looked to my right, and there was a whole wall jam packed with them! Everything cost half the new price and I left with a huge bag of great reads. The woman behind the counter was super nice and helpful and even gave me a discount on my purchase even though I didn't have any store credit to use. Maybe it was because I had so many audio books my check out total was something over $150! It was a great deal, I got some fantastic titles and I HAVE to visit this store next time I'm in town! Stacks upon stacks upon stacks and rows upon rows upon rows of books and books and books. If reading that made you dizzy, then you'll understand what it's like to walk into this place. Whether looking for a title in particular or scanning the array, your head will spin and spin and spin as you survey the floor-to-ceiling walls and walls and walls full of used books. The standard pricing is half off the publisher's price, which means I walked out of there with five books for a bit more than $30 and the prices were cheaper than I could have gotten some of those same books for online plus shipping. Alongside the classics, there's also a fair amount of cheesy romance novels and a huge sci-fi section. A lot of audio books and non-fiction kinds as well. My only complaint? The poetry is severely lacking. That aside, Paperbacks Unlimited pretty much lives up to its name. read more

Recently rediscovered the ancient art of reading again. Figured I'd pick up a book or two to try and move past my own writers block. Was informed to checkout Paperbacks Unlimited for many of the novels off of my wishlist. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of books I found off of my wishlist which contains Romance, Mystery, Fantasy, Fiction, Thriller, Self-help, and Historical just to highlight a few. The rooms are sectioned off by genre and organized by author. Very similar to a library minus the Dewey Decimal Classification system. I look forward to exchanging some of the books on my bookshelf for store credit to continue expanding my imagination and knowledge. read more

LOVE this place. Rooms and rooms full of books.... all neatly organized. Huge plus. Their kids books selection is nothing short of awesome... kids books are so rarely discounted (my weird school series, magic treehouse, junie b jones, judy moody, rick riordan books, etc) and they have them all for 50% off cover. I ended up with $55 worth of books and each was well worth it! I have quite a bookworm on my hands so used kids books are such a great find for me. Ended up shopping for a while... friendly staff, nice quiet place.... teachers receive an additional discount with teacher ID. A local favorite, worth a trip! read more

PLEASE DON'T PASS THIS BOOK STORE BY! We have been going to the cool little hole in the wall book store for several years now. They have almost every author you can think of. The family and staff that run the store are well versed in all genres of literature, even some of the more obscure books. One of the coolest things is they take other paperbacks in trades for store credit toward your purchase. We usually take a bag of books to trade and leave with almost as many new books to read. This is a great way to try a new author! If you don't like it, trade it back on your next trip in. They also have a large selection of audio books. Next time you find yourself driving Hwy. 12 in East Santa Rosa stop by and look around. I'm sure you'll leave with a few books and a smile. read more

I have been to Paperbacks Unlimited more times than I can count. It was my haunt as a kid because I have always been a big reader and I loved coming here with my parents and sister. I love how I can come in and buy some books, read them, and then return them for credit towards the purchase of more books. Prices are a little high (like the book may be the same price if you find it on sale online) but I understand that's what they have to do to stay in business and I like shopping local. There are quite a few parking spots in front, but if you can't find any there, there are also some down the side of the building and in back. There is also an entrance in front and in back as well. They have a great selection of books. Four large rooms filled with rows upon rows of books. You are likely to find everything that you are looking for here with many categories and titles. If you have a bunch of books sitting at home and gathering dust, I would highly suggest stopping by Paperbacks Unlimited and trading them in towards some gently used "new to you" books and supporting a great local business. This place has a cat named Booker. Any place with a cat is OK by me. They also have very friendly staff that are so knowledgeable you can say, I'm looking for a book but I'm not sure of the author and I think the title is "blah blah blah" and they find the book for you. You can turn in your old paperback cooks and get credit to spend. The selection is great, I have only been once or twice where I couldn't find the book I was looking for. And most of the time I find books I didn't even know I was looking for. : ) A great spot for a book lover!! read more

I'm always amazed by how quickly they add stock, which adds to my mania of needing to stop in regularly to see if they have that *one* book that will complete me. Paperbacks Unlimited is packed with amazing quality books for amazing, affordable prices! The price breakdown is easily viewable and understandable at the end of each book shelf there. There is a huge selection of each genre of literature that you could thing of: thrillers, mystery, suspense, paranormal, science fiction, mangas, fantasy, young adult books, western, religion, and much more! It's quiet inside the shop, which I greatly appreciated; it made it so much easier to shop around and be able to pick out a good selection of books to purchase. I left with more books than intended, which is a win for me and the shop, since it comes to show that they had a whole lot more than expected out of a local used book store! I highly recommend coming to Paperbacks Unlimited if you're looking for a good read, without the big retail prices that you commonly see online. To add on, the staff here is incredibly kind and more than willing to help find a specific author or book you're looking for. They'll help guide you through the store if need-be. How long has this place been open? Years I think. Anyway, it's my go to place to trade, browse and pick up a few books. With its musty smell of paper and seemingly endless supply of books one is hard pressed to not find something you like. The prices are CHEAP! So it's easy to load up and if you are done reading something - you can always trade it back for store credit - that is if it's still in good shape. The Staff is friendly for the most part and very helpful. Always eager to point you in the right direction, put books on hold and make a recommendation. Parking is easy and I never have trouble finding a spot to park. However, if too enjoy sipping Lattes and Mochas in a pristine book store -this may not be your cup of tea. The space is old and it has an funky kind of feel to it that I like. Kind of feels like you're browsing in an eccentric relatives basement for books. A diamond in the rough - but certainly a jewel in Sonoma County in regards to book stores. See ya in the stacks. ;-D read more

One of the best used bookstores I've seen, and I spend a good deal of time traveling. There are rooms and rooms of books, all meticulously organized by genre and author. I was able to fill several gaps in my collection with what they had, both older books and newer ones. Unless you find a Friends of the Library bookstore, I've found that most used paperback books tend to go for about $4, which was the case here, though I saw a decent amount for less. I am more than happy to support local businesses when this is the price I can get online through Amazon! And though I didn't take advantage of it, it seems they have a great exchange program where you get discounts on "new" books when you bring in some of your old ones. read more

I love that I can bring my books in, trade them for credit and walk out with a bag full of books for $20. They have everything and I'm usually able to find what I'm looking for - even something obscure. I can always find something to take home. The staff here is outstanding - I wish I could give them more than five stars. Today I went in with my trades and when I went to the counter to purchase my books, I realized I had left my wallet at home in Sebastopol. Rather than make me drive all the way home and back for the books (which I probably wouldn't have done), she let me take the books and mail a check back for my payment. What fantastic customer service! There's also Booker the cat here - he's a major bonus! I love how he can be found laying in the sun or sitting in hidden corners. Take a moment or two to pet him. I have been going to Paperbacks Unlimited since the early 2000's. Jan and her family get to know the customers personally and really put the term hometown into hometown, local business. With the amount of books I read, it is cost effective to return and buy used books. The idea of this type of business is unique. I had moved away for a few years, but when I returned it brought me joy to see the business is still there on Highway 12. For booklovers, Paperbacks Unlimited is excellent if not outstanding for selection. In 2016, it is like going to a place that appears non-assuming from the outside only to discover a treasure trove after one has entered. Excellent selection of literary fiction (classic and contemporary), murder mysteries, romance, etc. Not only did I find authors which are difficult to find, I discovered a much wider selection than I would have imagined. Kudos to the buyer of the shop for choosing widely and generously. The people in Santa Rosa are clearly readers since they are also partly responsible for providing stock and re-cycling the books that they read.
