I almost always find what I'm looking for, and if it's not in stock they make ordering it so easy! Man, this place seems to have only had one guy working there for years. He's the owner, I believe. It's truly shocking how kind, patient and helpful he is. He's also knowledgeable on most things. I have never found anything I wanna buy here. Five years ago, their movie selection felt about standard. Now, their focus is instead music or books, unfortunately. I'm not a consumer of physical books or music. I hear it's at minimum, an acceptable selection. I can't precisely gauge the value for a few reasons. There aren't many physical media stores in general anymore, plus this guy is very particular about having an extremely high quality of used products he sells. To me, the prices seemed a bit high, but I guess I'm glad he wants to only sell used products that seem new. (Does he sell non used products?) It's an easy building to access, with a huge parking lot. That however, doesn't entirely make up for being closed on a weekend day (Sunday). It being a reasonably big store, COMBINED with the former, does make up for it. It felt like it was very clean on the inside, to a fault...he still has a clear glass panel in front of him at the cash register, and wears a pretty intense face mask with gloves. I'm not going to get personal, don't worry. I'm only mentioning this, because it seriously made him hard to hear when he spoke. So keep that in mind. He had plenty of customers on a Wednesday afternoon before a holiday. Clearly there's something I'm missing here. I've only been here a couple times in five years, so maybe if you're a regular customer, the experience is different and better. There's a few reviews on Google at least, of customers recounting their purchase experiences, that can be very enlightening. Overall, this store seems to have one employee, the owner. A man who provides good customer service, and is concerned about having a pristine store in more ways than one. I'm not sure how many customers he has, but he is still open, so maybe go check him out.

Vintage Books has been a haunt of mine for decades. As a teenager three decades ago, I used to…read morefrequently buy and sell fantasy, sci-fi and RPG books, cycling through new D&D campaign material as needed. Prices were always excellent, the selection surprisingly robust, and the staff friendly and helpful, if a bit timid. Happily, not much has changed in the last thirty years, and this is one of the few instances where I would say that is absolutely a good thing. In the age of Amazon, eReaders, audiobooks, and every other conceivable method of circumventing the written (and more importantly, *printed*) word, it's almost shocking that little backend bookstores like this are able to survive...but I am thankful that they have.

Clean, organized, a small sitting area, coffee and hot chocolate for sale.....this is a great way to spend an afternoon!! The books are very reasonably priced, and you can see she takes care what she brings in....I saw no books that were damaged or overly worn. Lastly, if you bring in books to donate the store, she offers a discount on whatever you purchase that day! A nice win-win!

My favorite area is where all the Bibles are. My SIL wanted a New Living Translation with big lettering. Not only did she find one with a giant font, but she found one that was super giant font and it was the same size as a regular Bible. I got a Bible cover with a handle on the spine so you can easily protect and carry your Bible into church. What a fun place to shop!

The last time we visited Astoria in 2024, we were not "locals" but vacationing. We explored Astoria…read moreall day and landed downtown in the evening, but sadly, it was too late for me to visit Lucy's Books. I patiently added them to my "must see first" list. Cut to Mother's Day weekend 2026, where we made it a priority to explore downtown during the day, and I finally got to shop at Lucy's Books! The bookshop is bright, airy, and welcoming. What I love about this shop is that it is so open, but not crowded. While there is an opportunity to add more shelving and books, I appreciate that it's not packed. The selection is plentiful and feels intentional. There's something magical about wandering into a cozy local bookshop with no other intention than letting a book find you. And, a couple of titles did find me on the featured shelves! I always enjoy seeing bookseller recommendations. I chose Lost Coast Literary by Ellie Alexander (just finished and loved), and At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities by Heather Webber. I look forward to returning again and again to see what other books need a new home. :o)
