I was ecstatic when I realized that my favorite gift/greeting card shop would still be open for business. The gift selections are unique, and the greeting cards never fail to grab my attention. In fact, I have gained the reputation among my friends of being the go-to person for a great card if we're giving a group gift. Today, as usual, I walked in for one card, and walked out with at least 10 cards and three gifts for upcoming birthdays. I was able to find something pretty made by a local artist for my adult daughter and two gifts for my grandchildren, aged two and five. There's something for everyone and Michael always makes me feel welcome as soon as I walk in the door. The items are not outrageously priced, but everything in there is of high quality. I cannot recommend this little Long Beach treasure enough.

Babcock and Cooke came up on the list, so I called to see if they were open. It was a few minutes before 9 AM, the listed time that showed in their hours, but a gentleman answered the phone. He was so genuinely cheerful to let me know that yes they will be opening in a few minutes and that yes they had sympathy cards available. The small shop is located off the corner of Broadway and Redondo. It is nondescript with an old sign and honestly driving by it I would not have known it was there or what kind of shop it was so I'm thankful that I know it's there. Inside is super cute, tidy, and the shop holds a boatload of gift items. Walls of cards shelving filled with candles and other gift bag, stuffers and my favorite part, which I did not come in for, but ended up leaving with were yummy soaps that greet you right as you enter the door. My favorite part of the whole experience, was that when I walked in, and the shopkeeper greeted me, I had said that I'd called a while ago about the sympathy cards. He remembered our conversation and pointed me to wear on the wall. I could find them. I asked him later on if there was a post office nearby , and he said there was a mailbox across the street said that I had needed a stamp because I wanted to mail the card straight away. So, he kindly offered me a stamp and let me write the letter while I was in the shop. That was such a lovely experience, and if I'm in the area again, I will definitely come back and go gift shopping. The cards and collections were great. Also, the price was reasonable. There's so much to see! This shop is located at The Arbor, a neighbor of Shenandoah At The Arbor, a wonderful restaurant! Except for the sign out front, you'd think this was a residence rather than a store! Inside is chock-full of many things! Be careful walking around so you don't tip anything over! Some of the things that caught my eye were the teacups, vintage toys, & fun trinkets. They also sell garden signs, clothing, and cards! When we visited this past Sunday, they were having an Open House. They were offering hot dogs, nachos, sweet treats, and lemonade. Super welcoming and generous of them! Lately, I been hearing about the Jellycat craze, and they have a great selection in stock. Since Christmas is around the corner, you can fulfill all your kids wishes at one store. A tall lady comes from the back and tells me I'm not aloud to have food and says in a rude tone she could hold on to it, and when she grabs it she says "is this trash"? And looked bothered. If it was trash I wouldn't still be eating it and holding on to it. Once we're gonna leave I ask for it back and she begins to ignore me until I ask again and then she gives it to me and I'm walking out the door about to step out and I take a bite of it and she yells no eating aloud in the store. Everything here is reasonably priced & affordable. Pretty much all of my special occasions always had something from Fabric Barn. I have purchased 100s of spools of ribbons, personalized ribbons, baby shower favors supplies, party supplies, bags, round mirrors for centerpieces, wedding accessories including my veil and (believe it or not) my wedding dress. Service is hit & miss. Depending on the clientele & how busy it is, you may get helped quickly or you have to wait until the ladies finish chatting with coworkers or clienteles. Parking is tight on weekends but the flow of customers coming and going out of FB has never made me drive around the block more than once or twice. Because FB has always had what I needed. I have never been to go downtown to the Garment District. I have been living in SoCal for 33 years! Check them out!

Missing Joan Fabrics? This is your place!…read more My partner wanted to pick up some fabric and thread. Almost all of the stores have faded away in favor of Amazon/ online. To me this was a memory of being out with my mom in the old days before Bezos. All sorts of little party favors and decorations. We walked out with thread, cloth and Mardi Gras decorations. Great service and I don't think the prices were too bad. All that was missing was mothball smells. Long Beach parking on the street, maybe a quick park by the bank across the street. ****There's a few spaces off the alley in back.
