I've been in search of a business that can do gift wrapping... as my skills leave something to be desired. I found Paper Caper on Yelp here and noticed one of the reviews mention their gift wrapping service. Of course, I came into their business looking like a typical man in gym clothes, completely out of my element in this type of store. I looked more like I belong at a sporting goods or outdoors shop. Regardless of my appearance, I walked through the threshold and was greeted by what would seem your prototypical seasonal music and decor. The store had pleasant Christmas music playing and the smell was something out of Ms. Claus's potpourri lounge. The young lady I approached at the counter was polite, courteous, and to the point. She answered my questions about gift wrapping and offered multiple variations and ideas. I came away with a pleasantly wrapped present with a cute little bow for one of my wife's Christmas presents. I even gave the lady a warning that I'd be back with other presents. Through all my warnings, she smiled and said kindly that that would be no problem whatsoever. I went to paper capers in Lake Oswego today to buy a simple $4.95 card. Cashier was a younger girl who charged me $6.95. I called around 6:15pm and she told me to come in tomorrow. They had a nice selection of wrapping paper and ribbon. I couldn't find a prefab bow that would match the ribbon I selected. (Strange for a store that specializes in gift wrapping). I am so disappointed in what has become of Paper Caper. I used to LOVE this store. It was the best place to buy beautiful greeting cards that seemd like one was giving someone a gift. Now, there are no beautiful cards. There are cheap-looking cards, and vulgar cards. The store has devolved into a place to buy plastic dog poop and crotch scratchers. Cute store- Terrible customer service. I've continuously tried to give this store "another chance" due to the fun supplies. Unfortunately, I am continuously let down. Examples of service: --- Bought a birthday card from the store and asked if I could use their pen to write my sentiment. The lady handed me a pen and informed me "I needed to sign it outside (it was pouring down rain) as it was six o'clock and they close at six"... "I could keep their pen". --- I found an infant collegiate hat I liked but they were out of the gender style I needed. I went to the register to ask if they had any more or if I could order one Clerk: "What's on the shelf is what we have. We won't be ordering more because it's the end of the season" Me: "I understand. Do you know if the vendor has an online store I could order directly?" Clerk: "Look at the vendor name on the tag and Google them" Me: "I already Googled the name nothing is coming up. Is there any way to provide the vendors contact information to order through them directly?" Clerk: I would have to ask my bookkeeper and that is too much work" I came back to my office to tell my coworker my disappointment after the hat story (it was the sole reason for my trip to the store- a special gift I planned to surprise an expecting mother with)- her response "I've stopped going there! They have terrible customer service. I am always ignored when I walk in and they are unwilling to help if I have a question". Paper caper has lost my business. This is the most incredible store! Not only do they have the BEST selection of cards in the area, I always find super fun thing to buy...whether gifts or treasures for myself. The balloons they provide for special occasions are unique and they have an incredible collection of gift wrap supplies. I always look forward to stopping in to see what's new, and the seasonal selection for every holiday is unique and fun! I'm not sure why the negative comments about their service as I've always been greeted and had every question answered cheerfully! The owner is on-site frequently and is happy to engage with her patrons...thanking them enthusiastically for their business. My mother likes to come here for their selection of funny adult birthday cards, and spends $75-100 every time she shops, (just in cards). She has a small service dog, (10 lbs long haired chihuahua), with a vest and leash. Today when we came in, the owner, or manager (older woman with short hair and glasses), very RUDELY said "You have to pick up that dog!" When I asked why, she said "Because of the lead!" I asked her what she meant, she really couldn't answer... So when I tried to walk over to my elderly mother to tell her I was leaving the store, she basically screamed at me again: saying: "YOU HAVE TO PICK UP THAT DOG!!!!!". I said: "I'm leaving, and you don't have to be so rude about it!" By the way there were NO customers in the store at this time, which I pointed out to her. (another red flag, no customers) When my mother came out of the store, apparently this rude woman was speaking to another employee about our encounter, and was overheard saying: "Yes, I was rude!". Please people, DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!! Their prices are way over the top, and other than my mom purchasing cards, I would NEVER shop here. Side note: I was too shocked and upset to tell this rude person that it was on her if my mother suffered a seizure while in the store unattended by her service dog! Also, this is not the first time this particular woman has been so rude! Just terrible customer service...........who wants to put up with this type of behavior in this day and age? This is a fun store to browse in, and I always come away with a few items that I didn't need but are totally fun or cute. Great greeting card selection for all occasions, and some great gift items. I'm surprised by the negative reviews. After reading them, I tried to find somewhere else to go because I didn't want to support a business with bad customer service, but this place is really close to me. Maybe they've read them and are trying to improve.... I went in last week to get supplies for my twins' first birthday party. The shop was busy. A blond woman, presumably the one people have complained about, helped me when I was ready to check out (no one helped me before that but that's probably because I was on the phone almost until I checked out). She was very sweet and helpful, chatting about my party plans and showing me balloons that match the theme because I was considering coming in later to order balloons. I just called now to order the balloons and the woman I spoke to was also very nice and helpful. I was going to wait until I picked the balloons up to leave a review, but I figured two pleasant experiences for two are enough to justify a review. read more

I wish I could give this store 0 stars for the service. I love their product but I'm a busy mom, and usually come into the store with my 3 kids. I'm usually shopping for birthday party supplies for one of their parties. EVERY TIME I bring my kids in their they tell me my kids can't touch the merchandise. I find this rude- not only because you are in the party business and should expect children in the store, but also because they never once help or ask what you're shopping for. I've been back many times and they're always standing behind the register the entire time. Maybe my kids wouldn't touch as much stuff if you could help me find something!! Paper Caper is a gem. It offers a huge selection of great cards and lots of gifts and paper items. The owner and her staff are very helpful in selecting cards and finding the right items for a particular situation.Two days ago I call to find out if the store was open-it was not. When I explained that I desperately needed an anniversary card for my husband who lives in an assisted living community, she arranged for me to get the card I needed. Holy guacamole! Monday was my first visit there. I needed a present for the Mrs. wrapped with a skill level I do not possess. It took them 20 short minutes to create a thing of total beauty. My wife knew I hadn't wrapped it, and was amazed I could find someone that could surpass her wrapping skills. On Wednesday I brought them two more. They used the same wrapping paper and silver bows at my request, and made a great recommendation for an eclectic card that added to the grandeur. After a horrible experience at the Paper Source in the Bridgeport Village, I called the Paper Caper in desperation. Suzanne told me on the phone that she would gladly help me if I could get there before they close at 6pm (12 minutes from the time I called). I rushed right over and barely got in before 6pm. No problem for Suzanne. She was amazing! Helped me find paper, ribbon, wrapped the gift and even chose a card that was perfect for the occasion. It didn't bother her in the least that she stayed a little after 6pm to help me. I will always come here in the future. This little shop in Lake Oswego reminded me of the cards and stationery stores I grew up with in East Bay. These locally- and individually-owned businesses always had the cutest selections of some of my favorite things: pretty printed letter and card stock, cool wrapping paper, unique cards, and knick-knacks you wouldn't find just anywhere. As much as I appreciate the Hallmarks of the world, places like Paper Caper (which is also a franchise but seems to allow more individualization and choice of products to carry) bring back those feelings of being a little girl daydreaming about becoming a great writer/novelist and an artist of some kind! As for what we bought here -- I found some really nice holiday cards and my sister picked up a dainty snow globe with a white owl in it. read more

Most of the girls that work here are rude and snooty, obviously they aren't happy with themselves (probably because they are just ugly people, inside and out!) They had one really pretty, sweet, helpful girl that worked there that they must have gotten rid of, probably because she was too nice and helpful to the customers... I always find what I'm looking for here. And usually more than what I'm looking for too! They have everything from birthday cards, wrapping supplies, to presents, and home decor. It's a small store, but packed full of stuff. I ended up finding a lot of great little stocking stuffers here for Christmas this year. I recently stumbled upon Paper Caper and it has become my new favorite store. Paper Caper has the best card selection I have ever seen. The employees were very helpful and the store had a friendly atmosphere. After reading some of the reviews, I noticed some peoples' concerns about dogs in the store. As you enter Paper Caper they have a sign that says "no dogs allowed" and one time when a girl brought her dog in I did watch an employee politely ask the customer to pick their dog up. I will definitely be back in again to see what they have in (especially for Christmas!) read more

Debated on a 3 star just because they really do have a great, eclectic mix of kitsch. I have been going to Paper Caper since they were in the Mercantile Village by Haggen Daz...so a couple of years! The long haired brunette woman...maybe the owner - has always been a bit frigid but I pretty much expect it from her...unfortnately she/they seem to hire and seek out girls that have over inflated egos and peer at customers suspiciously rather than offer help and assistance. Having worked at Norstrom a lifetime ago - I was taught at home and work to not judge a book by its cover - some of my best sales were with the people you would least expect. While I just spent under $35 dollars today, finding things while uncomfortably being watched like a hawk...if one of the 3 girls working had pulled their head out of their rear they may have been able to suggestive sell me more. read more

Very weird experience today. I came in, one young woman asked if she could help me find something and I told her I was looking for a birthday card. I walked 3 more feet and the other young woman said they close in one minute. I left. If they want to close on time they shouldn't let people in and tell them they can't look at cards. They could close a few minutes earlier. I have gone to this store for many years and at least 2 owners but there are many other place where I can buy a birthday card. read more

When they're charging you an arm and a leg you'd think they would do it with a smile at least! And I also really didn't care for the blatant political partisanship. The woman (blonde 40s) seemed annoyed that it was busy. Apparently, according to her, it should have been a "slow day".
