This is the best restaurant I have ever been to my entire life. The atmosphere exciting yet warm and cozy the food delicious, hot fresh authentic, and have a great value. I spend less money here than I do at Subway or Carl's Jr.! The bar always a fun time. Bartenders are Pdelight anyone who patrons this establishment is also a very high-quality. It just works out that way it does draw crowds, but that's good. That means the food stays fresh and they have so many employees there and they're all very professional, the gentleman and ladies all work well together with their supervisors. Edguar and Johnny are usually the bartenders every drink they make is Chrisp and has been made with care and precision. They keep their beers at a perfect temperature the margaritas just sweet enough to make you want more chips and salsa. This restaurant has a huge patio area fun things for the kids. They have an entertainer that does balloon animals. This is literally the restaurant of all restaurants it does not get better than this. The food did NOT disappoint! It was definitely worth it. I had the garlic shrimp and they were excellent. My mom had the steak fajitas in which there was an abundance of steak. We also had the elote that was fresh unlike other places you can tell it's been in the water all day. They start you with a bean and cheese dip with chips and have an open salsa bar. Used to love this place but I realize that every time I come here which is often and no matter what time a day -it is SO loud. If you don't mind that it could be your go to place. The food is fast and plentiful, the free chips are great and all the different sauces at the sauce bar-yum. I especially love the bean dip that comes with the chips and a mix in some spicy green sauce. I was disappointed today when I actually paid for a small order of queso to find out that it was 4.99 for a small portion. Of course I was disappointed and I think my time here has come to end. We've eaten here for years but last two times it is just not good. They give a small basket of cold chips amd one small bean cup for four people and never refill. I asked the young guy for more and never came back. They changed menu and removed my Jalisco Relleno dinner and tonight the plate was hot and food cold. Had the Fajita enchilada and not one piece of meat, only a few slivers of onion & pepper. I don't mind price increase with new menu but quality is not there any longer. However the place is packed on a Friday night. If your a first-time patron, you may be impressed, but if you eaten here past 15 years, you know. This place has gone downhill. We got sat pretty quickly. Our server was terrible. Forgot drinks. Didn't offer more chips or bean dip. Food took forever. The kicker was we waited over 30 mins when we asked for the check. We finally had to ask the hostess where our server was. We get the checks and she charged us 18% gratuity because we had 4 adults and two kids. I get it's a party of 6 but she did not deserve that tip! On top of that she charged us for something we didn't order. When my husband said something to her she seemed oblivious. The food quality and it comes out hot. #3. The salsa bar #4. Their sweet tea is always perfect. I ordered the Camerones Al Mojo de Ajo and it was at the table in less than 4 minutes!!! (Estimated time) o are until my heart was content after grabbing some mild and medium salsa from the salsa bar. I FORGOT to take pics of the food and massive menu. So I failed at that but it gives me a LEGIT REASON to come back!! :p As soon as I put my fork down on the empty plate, my server Santiago was taking it. He immediately brought the check. I was able to come to have a great dinner and finish within 20 mins. I LOVE IT!!! If you go, check to see if Santiago is working but every server is always top notch here. I've been coming to Papas and Beer almost once a week since I moved here 10 years ago. It is my favorite restaurant in the world and I can't move away or I would die from lack of it. We refer to Papas as "church" because it's so heavenly. Here are my pro tip choices: pollo loco if you feel like chicken, carne asada if you feel like steak, camerones Flores if you want shrimp, warm fajita salad if you want salad. DO NOT order a quesadilla or you will be disappointed. AWLAYS get the slightly green creamy salsa because it's incredible and I also get the orange creamy salsa as well. ALWAYS ask for flour tortillas so you can make tacos with your dish. That's all folks. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this location this past weekend and had an unpleasant experience. To start, the drinks were severely watered down. I know that's not a super big deal but seriously my sprite tasted like sparkling water. Our waiter was also very inattentive, I had asked for a few more minutes to order and he gave us nearly 20. What world of Mexican food is this?? Door dashed an order last night and it was a mess. Maybe because I'm from texas and we border Mexico, so we actually expect mexiCAN food, not mexiCANT. For starters, we grabbed a vegetarian tamale and apparently they were out, so they gave and charged us for a cheese Chile Relleno in its placement. Ummm no. Don't offer what you don't have. It leaked all over the place and didn't even look appetizing. I got beef quesadillas and I was fully expecting beef fajita quesadillas. NOPE. It was some sort of shredded beef (WHY??) with tomatoes, which made the entire tortilla soggy. Yes, soggy. Never in my life have I ever had tomatoes in my quesadillas. The rice was extremely greasy and oily. The $5 queso was in a small 2 oz cup that looked and tasted like velveeta melted with water. My friends tacos were bland and terrible and my other friend's chicken and rice was drowned with melted shredded cheese and barely any rice. The entire meal was really inedible. I would encourage you to go find real Mexican food because this isn't it. Y'all - this is not Mexican food. read more

Our recent visit to Papa's and Beer has proven you cant forget about the old favorites even with the influx of new taco joints everywhere. I never thought of P&B as one of my favorites before, but yesterday's experience has changed my perspective. We just happened to be in the area and decided to stop in for a quick bite. The menu has been updated and still has a lot of choices. I decided on the grilled chicken tropical salad, and it was SO good! Fresh romaine with real grilled chicken that has such a smoky flavor, topped with a light dressing and a homemade fruit relish. It was so fresh and delicious from start to finish. Hub enjoyed the tacos mexicano, which was a huge serving of three different flavored tacos with beans and rice. A tasty bean dip is served with the complimentary thin and crispy chips. There's also a salsa bar with mild and spicy flavors to suit every taste. Oh, and the margaritas. Unless you're really thirsty, order just a small unless you want to share it with a special someone. I enjoyed the tacos soooo much, and everything about them was perfect; excellent seasoning, juicy meat, the best flavor, and even fresh vegetables toppings! It was nice to sit with my friends and enjoy our food together. It was a evening and we're thankful for it all. How ever it was concerning to us to notice the way a particular staff member, a bus boy with a name beginning with an E, was treating others ( females) and as a woman myself it was terrible to see the workplace harassment. We were seated pretty quickly upon entering restaurant. We ordered the special, carne asada/bacon/chorizo medley and it was like the leftovers before they go bad mixed into a dish. The bacon was wilty with possibly 1 oz. of grease from all the meat. The waitress made excuses for the chef and it should've been handled tactfully by getting the manager to resolve the issue. The cheese enchilada was cold in the middle upon receiving it. The waitress did not comp us for bad dishes. This particular restaurant compared to the Asheville and Shelby locations was a major disappointment in quality of food. we chose this establishment over La Parilla and I regret coming to Papas and Beer. 2 stars for the decorations and that's being generous. read more

I'm just going to say I really do not like Papas and Beer. I have eaten here over a dozen times and every time I go I'm reminded of why I don't like it. My in-laws love this place and we have to go every few times a year when we come up to Greenville to visit. I'll use the three strike system of why I do not like them: Strike One: (The Biggest) I have ordered a chicken quesadilla from them and there was steak mixed into it. I do not eat steak or beef because I can't stomach it. This is a serious no-no in the restaurant industry. Every time I have to go there I have to open up my quesadilla and make sure there is just chicken inside of it. This has happened twice so that makes their kitchen sloppy. Strike Two: No traditional salsa. (I must sound like a hater here) I don't like bean dip. There's no traditional salsa at Papas and Beer. You just get bean dip with your chips. They do have a salsa bar, but there's almost no traditional red salsas up there. The red ones they have are not very good. I get the bright red one that's really bright red and honestly it just taste like canned tomato. Strike Three: This place is almost always stupidly crowded. I can't figure that one out. I've waited in line for thirty minutes to go to this place a few times. (I didn't want to) Papas and Beer reminds me of being a kid. It's like my "other" parents restaurant they really really like and I have to tag along to eat it. No matter how much I protest. read more
