This is a nice resort at the end of Kaanapali Beach - a great location and easy to get to and from.
The resort is made up of several privately owned condos and vary greatly. We stayed in a 1BD + loft unit - although advertised as a 2DB. It was great for our family of four with two little boys (3, 7). We had a unit on the third floor at the end of the first "U" set of buildings. We had a great view of the inner courtyard, putting green, pool and of course, beach. It wasn't a direct view, but still very nice from the deck.
Our unit was furnished nicely, but basic. The unit had been updated with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, including granite in the bathroom. Overall, it was nice, but the unit and overall property were dated. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a lack of maintenance, but a lack of upgrades. For example, our unit had those louvered windows in the master bedroom. This was compounded by having the walkway right underneath these windows, so it was loud when people were coming in late at night. On the positive, the complex had several high-end Weber grass grills around the pool. These were very popular - I actually had to share one on my last night, but made a good friend who coincidentally also lives in Colorado and is one of my customers - small world.
As for the overall property and amenities, they're nice, but not great. With two little ones, the pool was a big deal for us. Unfortunately, it didn't have a beach entrance, slide, etc. that you would get a larger resort. Making it worse, they didn't like pool toys either. My kids were 'busted' several times, even when we were the only ones in the pool. On the positive, the pool is right next to a larger 9 hole putting green that was popular - especially in the evenings when everyone was BBQing.
The property literally sits right on the ocean, but when I say literally, I mean it. There is no beach to use, but only a grassy area that sits about 5 feet above the water and accessed through a stairway. Great for views, not great for beach play.
Finally, their is an on-site concierge and that made is convenient for booking dinner reservations, surfing lessons and a variety of other activities. They offer a continental breakfast each morning to tell you about the island and activities, which my wife enjoyed.
Overall, our family enjoyed the resort, but you have to understand what you're getting. If you're okay with a property that's in good condition, but dated (1980s), then this is the place for you. The prices were reasonable, especially compared to an ocean view hotel room. Since each unit it privately owned, you can negotiate prices. Remember, the flip side of this is that you also have to trust the owner's description and photos. read more
