Homemade Baked Gnocchi
Jill S.

Papa Joes has become our favorite local pizzeria. Just a fantastic NY style pie! But it's not just the pizza that's amazing, everything we have ordered has been great! Our favorites are the baked gnocchi (just wow!) the meatball sub and/or the chicken parm sub (the best chicken parm sub in CFL and it's made on a sesame seed roll which is next level!) If you live in the area and your family needs a go-to Italian restaurant, choose Papa Joes.

Sicilian Salmon with garlic broccoli for my gluten allergy.

We have never had a bad meal here. We have eaten the pizza, gluten free white pizza, lasagna, cake and many other items on the menu. They have all been delicious. Tonight was really spectacular. I had the Sicilian Salmon without the butter sauce for my gluten allergy. It was so fresh. Just the right amount of seasoning, the broccoli was tender but not too much and the lighter sauce was so good and lemony, I loved it. My friend and hubby had sausage ravioli which they both enjoyed and her husband had lobster ravioli which was in a pink sauce and stuffed nicely. The service was impeccable and we almost always get a hello from the owner-tonight it was a Merry Christmas wish and wonderful conversation. Don't miss this little gem plus they have two more in Lake Mary.

Joe's Antipasta Salad. This was good.

In my heart of hearts, I want to give this place a high ranking. But, it's getting 3 stars, which is a C grade. First off, the ambience is fun and a bit campy. It's decent enough. A mix of Italian-inspired decor, with tons of Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia (which is cool) and then old food service posters - you know those posters about cheese, tomatoes, deli meats, etc. So, it's all a mish-mash. But you get the point that the owner is an old-school, real Brooklyn-Italian. And he is. And he's really, really nice. And cares about food and restaurants. That's why I want so badly to give this place a 5, but because of the food, it's a 3. So what was good? Well, Joe's Antipasta Salad is actually very good. Large portions of meat and cheese on lettuce and a really good Italian dressing make this salad, not only a good value, but something you could devour after a workout, and still feel good about, while getting in some serious protein. So yes it was good, although it did have that food-service kitchen quality to it, rather than genuine restaurant quality. Let's get to the disappointing part. The garlic knots. They were dry, hard and stale almost. Covered in oil and basic, raw minced garlic. If you've been to a great Italian joint, or other places in Orlando (I'm talking about you Pizza Bruno) you know how good a garlic knot can be. Here, they were just bad. Not a pleasure to eat. Tough on the stomach. And almost thrown together. Then the pizza, which I ordered super thin and crispy. It came out not that way. It was chewy and still doughy. The cheese and sauce were good, but nothing remarkable. But again, it just doesn't come close to other places with smashingly good pizza. It's just really average. Which is the fitting term for this place in general. Really, really average. Hence 3 stars. Yes, it's a heart-warming local joint, with all of the best intentions. But somewhere that doesn't translate onto the plate. I wouldn't say don't go, but I wouldn't make it a special trip. And stay away from those knots.

Not the same Poppa Joe's as the years go by and time passes. Probably more of a 3.5 these days but still a good joint to stop by for a couple of cuts and a coke. Still wish they sold the bianca by the slice like they do in most pizza joints.

Hot garlic crispy wings. Delicious!!

Antica Pizzeria & Market, hidden away in a shopping center between Vida Cocina Tequila and Fuji…read moreSushi (also hidden behind Twin Peaks, which unfortunately doesn't have anything to do with David Lynch), is a small, cozy Italian place with delicious dishes made with fresh, quality ingredients that's perfect for a casual date night. I'd heard this won best Altamonte Springs restaurant 2025, so we tried them out this past Saturday night. Since they're known for both pizza and pasta and we wanted to try both, we ordered the Basil Pesto pizza ($20) and the Rigatoni Alla Bolognese ($20). The Rigatoni came in a reasonable, not overly large but still filling serving that was flavorful and delicious, with a proportion of meat that was higher than the proportion of pasta, which was great. The Basil Pesto pizza was the unexpected highlight. Though it came later than the pasta, it did for good reason--it came straight from the oven, with warm, deliciously fluffy crust and *real* chunks of melted *fresh* mozzarella. The olive oil made the pizza feel light and not heavy at all, and the leftover oil served as great dip for our bread. For the money, I would've liked some light complimentary table bread while waiting for our entrees, as it took a while to deliver the food to our table, which I could tell was because this place is very popular with DoorDash and UberEats based on the steady stream of drivers in and out of the door, crowded around the pick-up area, and likely delaying our food somewhat, but this didn't detract from the cozy vibes at all, and the quality of the food more than made up for the slight delay. They're closed Sundays and Mondays and close at 9pm on the other days, so keep that in mind. There's limited seating, maybe 4-5 booths on either side and a row of tables down the middle, so keep that in mind when planning a spur of the moment visit like we did. We were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, but lucked out that a table had just opened up when we arrived. The menus are digital (iPads), which can be a pro or a con depending on your perspective on how long you looked at Bad Screen all day at work, but I will say the UI was very well laid out and easy to find the menu items, which is a plus. Our server was polite and attentive, making sure to ask me if I was ready for the check on my way back from the bathroom. The bathroom is an experience; you have to walk *through* the kitchen to get there (please make sure to shout "Corner!" as you pass), which adds to the vibes, and there are two, which is plenty for this size of restaurant. Saw a flyer on the bathroom wall that they've recently opened a food stall inside the Great Southern Box Company on North OBT (serving pizza only at that location), which adds to that location's great selections. Overall, this is a cozy, tucked-away Altamonte Springs gem with delicious, high-quality dishes that works well for an intimate date night and one that I'd definitely visit again.

We had the special $38 per person pre-fixed menu which had 3 courses. We were able to try so much! The gnocchi, the margarita pizza, chicken meatballs but our standout was the tomato soup. Our server Alexa K was very attentive and took such wonderful care of us. She made sure we never had to ask for anything. The restaurant itself is very small with only a few tables. If you want to go I highly recommend reservations. Once they fill getting a table could be difficult. And if you have the Toast app you can earn points for money off on your next visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Can't wait to return.

The feel of this place is super chill several different seating types to choose from: regular table, high tables, counter at the bar, bench seating, outdoor seating. You'll have your choice here.
