Great spot right off the highway, a very nice place to stop and be introduced to some Georgia BBQ. We picked up a couple of pulled pork sandwiches, we opted for the "big boy" which is an 8 oz. serving of pork. It was plenty of food, but it made the sandwich a bit dry, which is not common as we have had plenty of sandwiches in GA and they tend to be pretty wet. We were starving when we hit Papa Buck's after our first 2 fast food options were packed with a bus load of teenagers - there just aren't lot of options on this section of interstate 16. What a wonderful inconvenience, because this place was delicious! I got the half size scooby snack with pulled pork, which was still very filling, and the tangy sauce complements the smoked pork. The guys devoured a 20 count chicken finger family meal that was so much better than the fast food chicken places that were our original destination. There is a drive-up window for call-in orders or you can order at the window. Service is always fast, friendly and full of southern charm. One of their signature dishes is called the Scooby. It's barbecue styled nachos. Fries piled high with pulled pork, cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, sauce and other topping choices. You can choose any of their meats . Smaller portion are called Scappy: larger ones are Supreme. Super tasty and filling. I always get a quart or two of Brunswick stew to go. Their stew is the best I've had in many years. Add a couple ponds of brisket or pulled pork and the sweetest tea around. Prices are very reasonable and we'll worth the stop. read more

This place is terrible. The Brunswick stew was so hot it could not be eaten until I had finished everything else. There was no corn or lima beans in it. I finally ate it, mostly because everything else was so bad. I had the sliced pork loin plate. I am accustomed to sliced pork being very thin, this was about 3/4 of an inch thick. That was OK just not what I was expecting. As my other side I had fries. Both the fries and pork were room temperature and the pork did not seem to have any rub or seasoning. I ordered unsweet tea, I got sweet tea. I would have sent it all back but the server never came back until it was time to collect the bill. I had a free drink for checking in on Yelp, the server seemed irritated that she had to take it off after she totaled the check but if she had come back I would have told her. As an Atlantan driving to the coast, you drive through several hours of middle Georgia nothingness along the way and your food options are either chain fast food spots or local hole-in-the-wall options. I prefer to go the later route when traveling so we stumbled upon this spot in Metter. It's located just off I-16 next to a BP gas station and when you find a food joint next to a gas station, you know you've either found a diamond in the rough or you'll be living in the bathroom for the next 12-24 hours. Luckily, this fared more towards the first. It's a very small joint with maybe 10-12 tables and the decor screams "BBQ joint, but make it middle Georgia style" - I found it to be kind of cute and add to the overall vibe. The service was very quick and the menu is condensed enough where it won't take you long to figure out what you want. Apparently this place also has a BBQ challenge that's like 4lbs of food that you have to finish in less than 45 minutes?? I wasn't prepared for that route so we both went with a traditional BBQ plate. Overall, the food is good. The pork is tender and the sides ranged from decent to DAMN. Don't sleep on the potato salad, it was by far the best side item (it was really creamy with a touch of dill). The sweet and smoky BBQ sauce was a home run so I highly recommend that. The prices are also reasonable and we were out the door for around $25 for two people. If you're making the I-16 trek and looking for a quick and cheap lunch, I would absolutely recommend stopping here vs Dairy Queen down the road for better food, service, and ambiance. read more

For $5.50 I got the BBQ sandwich in Texas Toast. Was excellent. Meat had not been under a heat lamp and freshly pulled. The house sauce was also very good. Worth the stop on the way to / or from Savannah! This restaurants has really good BBQ ribs, brisket and pulled pork! Sides are very good as well. We were on our way back from GT - TN game when we need to grab some lunch and as BBQ is a great fast food I went to my bookmarks and Papa Buck's was an ideal place to try. Since it was our first time we both had the combo platter and tried the ribs, pulled pork, chicken and brisket. We went with fried okra, Brunswick stew and their corn on the cob as sides. Both the brisket and Ribs and both were excellent nice smoke ring, tender, and meaty (not a lot of fat). The pulled pork was good as well, the chicken though was dry and needed sauce. The Brunswick stew was meaty but a little on the sweet side for us as we prefer tangy. Okra was crisp and tasty as well as the corn which had a nice roasted outside while being sweet. They have a white sauce which was pretty tasty and went well with the chicken and brisket. They have a good GA BBQ sauce as their staple. The bread that comes with the meal is your normal white bread, I suggest 50 cent upgrade to TX toast. Food - Everything very good to excellent, except for dry chicken and the Brunswick stew and bread not being to our taste. 4 stars Service - 5 stars - Very nice attentive server who kept up with our tea glasses and knew her menu. Atmosphere - Being a Tech fan the UGA country theme was a little tough to stomach, but I am the minority and they did not discriminate at all! 5 star view for u DAWG fans, a 1 star for us Yellow Jackets - management going to your base a 4 star average. Good BBQ in a humble, welcoming, setting. The interior of the restaurant--which no doubt does a lot of take-away business, perhaps more than dine-in--is simple and diner-like but the staff are very friendly and treated me, though I'd never been here before, like a local or even an old regular. The restaurant is small and I don't think would work for larger groups, but is fine for dining-in if on the highway going from Savannah to Atlanta or the other way around, as I was. I would recommend the ribs and the Brunswick stew. Now, I'm not normally at all a fan of Brunswick stew, but their stew was awesome. They certainly know what they're doing with the ribs, as well. Interestingly, there is another BBQ place right across the road--I suppose engaged in friendly competition? I'll have to try that one as well some day.
