Papa Bear Popcorn is the perfect place for getting a little treat for someone (or yourself). I picked out a few flavors to give with gifts for the holiday season. Their mini size has about 3 cups of popcorn and is perfect for trying multiple flavors - but they also offer larger sizes or tins with up to 3 flavors. They have so many flavors to choose from it's hard to pick!! They also have lots of candy in the store you can fill up a bag with to purchase. This visit I got Chicago mix (cheesy and caramel), cheesy ranch, puppy chow, and movie theater butter. The puppy chow didn't get gifted because it looked so good we had to try it on the way home. I used Papa Bear Popcorn for my sister's bridal shower favors. Their small bags are perfect for gifts! It was hard to choose what flavor because they have so many but I took my mom with and she was able to help. I loved that they bagged it fresh for us! Papa Bear Popcorn offers multiple sizes and gifting options of fresh popped popcorn. It seems that they make some base flavors daily and then build on them when you order. Some of the flavors get mixed by the employees in the back after an order is placed. This makes some of the flavor only on the top of the pieces and not penetrate the popcorn. Papa Bear offers so many flavors they have to have a menu card. My personal favorites are Snake Eyes, Spicy Buffalo, Extra Cheesy Cheese, and Sea Salt Carmel. You can ask for a few samples while you look at all of the flavor options. I do love supporting local businesses. I will give this a two because the popcorn is okay. Its not out if this works for the money and I've definitely had better. The main complaint is that it is a bit soggy. Like if you cook butter and pour it over popcorn at home it gets wet and soggy. Its not quite that bad, however it is not like other popcorns that use a dry flavoring so there is some moisture. The main reason for my rating is the staff. She was so rude from the moment we walked in the door. Seriously we felt uncomfortable. It seemed as if she had better things tibdi than her job and we were bothering her. And don't expect help with sizes and prices of sizes of Tins because it won't happen. I also was very put off that they have a breast cancer tin with the insignia and I thought if you used that you had to donate to the cause so I asked if they did and she rudely snapped at me that they do not. If you own this place you should know I read other reviews noting this problem and almost didnt give because in these times people want to give out and have a nice time, not be treated badly. Regardless, I had told several people about this place and a few were planning a visit. After our visit and hearing our review of how we were treated they changed their minds. We also should have walked out and ordered from one of the many popcorn shops around the states that ship, have more flavors, do donate, and their staff are friendly. February 4th was my second time at Papa Bear. The first time the popcorn was just okay, but not nearly as good as some supermarket Chicago style. This most recent time, the popcorn had a distinctly off taste. Two of us purchased popcorn and neither of us could eat it. One bag was white cheddar and caramel and the other was regular cheddar and sea salt caramel. Both bags had a strange chemical taste, perhaps old oil or a burned flavor? I've seen this place for years and finally stopped in. I wasn't impressed with either popcorn flavor we purchased. The Chicago style tasted stale and just meh. The cheese popcorn just didn't have much flavor, which isn't great, especially when you're paying premium prices. I am bewildered. Should I be upset that PBP is all the way out in Chesterfield? Or Should I be happy that it isn't close to home? I'm going with the later, because this popcorn is damn good. I noticed Papa as I was approaching, The Shack for a late breakfast and made a mental note to visit once I had eaten. Once I finished eating, I headed up to PBP. The parking lots for both strip centers are connected, so it was easy-peasy. I didn't have to get back on Clayton Road. As I entered the store, I was immediately greeted by one of the young men working. I was also overwhelmed with the variety of popcorn flavors. I was also impressed that they offer Chicago and Big Chicago in their flavor varieties. Big Chicago has more cheddar mix on the popcorn in that blend. I was pleased with the amount on Chicago, it was a perfect blend to the caramel. Heads, up! The caramel they use here is house made and is an old family recipe. A nice touch for a local business, to share a family treat with the community. They also had a variety of candies, including the famous, Jelly Belly's. If shopping for a gift, you have a variety of sports tins to choose from. GO BLUES, CARDINALS and MIZZU! This is an easy find now that I know where they are. With its glass jars filled with all manner of wrapped candies and the various flavors of popcorn on offer, Papa Bear Popcorn is a feast for the senses. The caramel popcorn is my favorite, we also tried the cheese which is a solid choice. I am glad this place isn't closer to me as I could get in some serious trouble. I'm usually leery about the self service jars of sweets but everything here seemed spic and span. There are also wrapped candies near the register available for sampling along with old-school soda flavors in bottles (rootbeer, orange soda, etc). Stopped in on a Friday afternoon on the way home. Always wanted to try the place and after a neighbor gifted us some of the popcorn I decided to make a stop. Nice clean little shop with some old school candies and a HUGE selection of popcorn flavors. I got a medium of the cheddar and white cheddar blend and a small of the Big Chicago. Now by no means is it cheap popcorn, but the product quality goes a long way towards the price. Huge kernels coated entirely with flavor. It's hard to put the bag down. And to their credit they fill the bag with absolutely the maximum amount they can which I appreciate. I spent $29 on the 2 different size bags. Would make a great gift for a popcorn fan. I'm anxious to try the sweet flavored ones along with some of the crazier flavors. read more

I liked this popcorn alot. I found the service to be fine. I dont like a-lot of fake chit chat. I went in knowing what i want and getting it. The Big Chicago mix is excellent and i got one for a friend who loved it also. They have lots of old school candy for sale. Yes the popcorn is kinda expensive but it was fresh and yummy and its a great place. Maybe they need a price list that very visible. It would cut down on the questions i bet. Maybe i didnt see it. If you are after a suitable, local alternative to Garrett's Chicago Mix, this isn't it. The place is cool with all the candy, and they do apparently make all of their popcorn. But, it is just ok. The Carmel is missing that buttery flavor of Garrett's. The cheese is relatively flavorless. You can eat the cheese without a napkin. Went in this store because number 1, my dad loves popcorn, number two it was his anniversary, saw a cool happy birthday box, enters the store, not a warm welcome, but anywho, I proceed to ask if he (the worker or owner not sure)...if he by any chance carry anniversary boxes like the happy birthday ones?...he states no and head to some bags of popcorn ranging from about 1.99-7.00 maybe..and stated "I have these and are cheaper to" I gave this special human being the look like "really you think this brown gal don't have enough money for a cool box of FREAKING popcorn for a gift"...I just simply left the store!
