The driving range has a couple of putting ranges for chipping and putting, but no sand practice.

Designed by Steve Elkington, and…read morethe first golf course I know that got repo'd by a bank and now ran by the same bankers. I have to say, Woodforest Golf course is the best course i have played in Texas. Let me elaborate on that. As a caddy, I have seen lots of types of courses, from flat boring pasture with visibility for miles, to 360 dogglegged landmines at every blind corner. This is none of that. The beauty here is the simplicity of the layout. Good Job Elk. Every hole is exactly as you see it, no tricks, hidden dangers. But to end up with a score below Houston summer temps require you to have a PGA style short game, or Ben Hogan school of course management. If you end up out of position, there is no up and down. 3 putts on the large waving greens, chunked flops out of the troll haired rough is common. I was more nervous around the green than waiting for an episode of Game of Thrones to start. Cold sweat, junkie twitch, Kevin Na yips... The word on the street is that this is the best course in Houston by a long shot. And that there are weekday deals that make this affordable to all willing to make the drive. Like Han Solos says, "it's all true."

Course is always in great shape. Greens putt true. If you…read moremiss the putt, it's your own fault! lol Only complaint is not so bad, the greens drain great. So, they are always pretty firm, even after rain. But, everything around the greens, especially the approaches are always way to wet and soft, making it fairly frustrating when you hit a great shot, even with a wedge, high and with good spin that lands on the front and rolls out. But, if it lands short it either plugs or just about plugs. See, like I said, not so bad. But, a course of this quality should be able to manage irrigation a little better.

A few months ago I would have left 5 stars. But things have changed…read more We go there often for Sunday brunch and the last couple of times may have been our last. 1. One week, the server REFUSED to bring my change(even after I said something to the manager). Guess she thought she deserved to keep it as her tip without letting me choose. 2. This past week, the server showed up only once to refill water, did not remove empty plates - guess the conversation at the bar was better than checking on diners. 3. The breakfast/brunch menu pretty much remains the same with sometimes additions (not to the protein choice). Last weekends gnocchi had a not too good pesto sauce and was very starchy. 4. Last 2 times we were there the food in the serving dishes was only just WARM Hopefully the management will wake and pay attention to their customers, their staff and their food. MAYBE we'll be back but probably not in the near future.

Second, we're here because of a sign advertising a different restaurant down the road, our mistake, so we stayed. We get past that but things disintegrate quickly. I order a beer and my husband orders a strawberry margarita. Server leaves but comes right back, no strawberry mix here. We still remain resolute and order from the menu. Mike orders a burger, the HANGOVER burger, to be specific, and I order a Reuben. I am assured the corned beef is shaved fresh per order. We overhear a lot of uppity discussions about membership at the golf course from a table next to ours with men who clearly have too much money and too much time, and make no bones about their distaste for outsiders. Pity. The food has arrived and despite a few things, is really good. My Reuben, while the cheese NOT being melted, is truly good. I'm eating the asparagus I ordered with my fingers, horror of horrors! But at this point, it's too funny not to. This place is hoity toity, so eating the asparagus with my fingers, I just had to. The meat on the Reuben, I do not believe was shaved fresh, too consistent in the slices, but still the reuben was good. The burger was good, it was just the overall ambiance of the place that was a turn off for us. Maybe for some people, this is a great little cafe, but not for working class people who happen in here by mistake.

My boyfriend and his best friend love to play golf together once a week! On my off day I have been…read moreenjoying tagging along as a rider and spending time with them. We have been coming to Highland Pines every monday for the past month. We start the morning off with breakfast tacos inside, we buy drinks from the beverage cart girl the entire time we are out there, and always go in for beverages and lunch afterwards!! I do not play golf and I am still learning how to play which is why I shy away from playing at courses I am unfamiliar with. I am scared I will slow people down. I would NOT recommend EVER coming to Highland Pines Golf Course and spending your money because of the poorly and unsettling way the staff in the pro-shop treats you and makes you feel! My boyfriend calls ahead every monday morning before we come to let them know that he will have a rider and they say that it's OK until you walk in and they say every time "for future reference riders are not allowed" as they press a "rider" button and charge a $30 fee. Obviously if you have the button on your computer and we've been doing it for the past month, it is allowed. I have been working at a private golf course for three years and we would NEVER make anyone feel this way whenever they come in. They have told us multiple times to call ahead and make sure it's not a busy day (which we completely understand) and we do that every single time!! Every single monday they have multiple LINES of golf carts in their barn and I see it every time we finish up. I hate the way that they make me feel and the way I am treated everytime I walk into the pro-shop! The pro-shop staff is extremely rude and unfriendly and they are overall unwelcoming!! I've never felt this way or been treated this way anywhere else I have gone and I KNOW I do not deserve this treatment!! The unprofessionalism of the pro-shop staff is mind blowing and I would much rather take my $130 and go spend it somewhere else where I'm treated kindly and professionally!! It's not hard to have some class, especially whenever you are working at a nice golf course like this! Besides the pro-shop staff, I always have an amazing time here and the food and beverage staff is amazing, but they manage to ruin it EVERY single time! There is a right and wrong way to go about these situations and their pro-shop staff manages to go about it in the wrong way every time!! DO NOT BOTHER SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!! For anyone wondering KYLE WILLIAMS in the pro-shop was the man who treated me so poorly and disrespectfully!!

The unfortunately offline shots snaps you awake from the dreamy landscape and the gorgeous shore lines that your ball just skipped over. Tentative poke of the putter, as you try to time your attempt before a gust of wind moves the ball. It is more of combined punishment from flop shots that still rolls out too much, and down hill putts that just keeps on going. Maybe I am not a smart man, I kinda enjoyed it. Those moments when you take one look back at the green as you walk away, the feeling of satisfaction of completing something hard. And the next tee box, where nature is so perfectly groomed in to mimic an Ansel Adams national park lookout. But it has some flaws. The rows of starter homes squeezed tightly like bento boxes next to some holes serves to remind you of the corporate decisions that had to be made. The construction noise and smoldering wood piles near by hints at the disappearing of most of the magnificent tree lines in the near future. As of now, this is in the top 5 courses I have played in Houston. Good job to the Pines golf group.
