You order at the bar and pick it up at the bar. You can sit wherever you like basically. We ordered fried croquettes, potato omelet, churros and tomato toast. The churros were our second favourite in Madrid. They weren't hot out of the frier but they were crispy and addictive. The tomato toast was a pass - nothing amazing and didn't have enough garlic. The croquettes came out piping hot. Nice and crispy. The potato omelet was also served cold but it went really well with the bread. I would imagine it was very delicious if it was hot. I would come back to try the other things on the menu as their menu is so big. They have lots of things that you could enjoy as snacks. A lot of locals come here and not a lot of tourists which is nice.

We don't (unfortunately) speak any Spanish but the staff were all lovely and accommodating anyway :) We ordered a burger and coffee each, and a plate of churros to share, which all came in at under €5 each and were absolutely delicious! If I ever find myself back in Madrid I will definitely be making my way back here!

This was a truly fortunate find for Jamie W and me on our last evening in Madrid, a stark contrast…read moreto the disappointing meal we had on our first evening at Superchulo just a brief stroll away. We wee again looking for a place with vegetarian options, and as it turned out, Artemisa offers an exclusively vegetarian and vegan menu. As hopeless non-Europeans who don't eat dinner at midnight, it should come as no surprise that we were their first customers. For 1,3€ per person, we received their artisan gluten-free bread made with chickpea flour (Photo 6) and slices of their Leek & Mushroom Quiche, a browned and flaky savory confection (Photo 9). Both items signaled the satisfaction that lay ahead. Jamie and I decided to start our order by sharing the 13,6€ Antilla Salad, a colorful melange of shredded lettuce, pineapple, mango, papaya, avocado, corn, and carrot (Photo 5). It was a refreshing variety of produce. For his entree, Jamie surprised me with his order, the 13,95€ Lebanese Burger made of lentil, quinoa, and spinach and layered with chickpea hummus, arugula, cheese, and tomato. It came with a side of thickly cut French fries which Americans would describe as steak fries (Photo 4). Quite a tender burger with umami. I went with the 15€ Eggplant & Shiitake Moussaka, a delicious eggplant lasagna with quinoa and vegetable ratatouille. It was ladled with a 'cream' sauce made with shiitake mushrooms and and feta 'cheese' cubes (Photo 8). The ingredients used in this dish were surprisingly delicate, and the cumulative impact lent quite a flavor punch given its vegan profile. This was a meal we didn't quite expect to have in Madrid because Spanish tapas were not involved. Rather, it was a Middle Eastern vegetarian delight in a tranquil setting amid the cacophony of the Gran Via. We were in Madrid and touring with a private guide who strongly recommended that we take a taxi…read moreoutside of the tourist part of town and experience Samm for, what he claimed was the best paella in all of Madrid. Open only for lunch on weekdays, this place seemed to be a popular spot for business lunches. We arrived at 1:35 for our 2 pm reservation and were the first ones in the place; however it was full by the time we left so definitely recommended to make reservations. We were seated in the small bar area but they had a lot of tables in a nice glassed-in terrace too. Olives arrive as soon as you are seated and drink orders are taken. As it is customary to have at least two courses at lunch we started with the ham (jamon iberico)-a plate full of delicate slices and crispy bread. For the main course - seafood paella and you definitely want to request some rich garlic aioli to mix in too. The paella takes around 40 minutes and arrives in a large flat skillet. The waiter takes a spoon and scrapes up all the delicious crispy bits and piles it up in the center then you serve yourself. It was much more than we could eat and it seems most of the locals had pretty much the same order as us except they started with a beer ( we had a glass of wine), then the locals had a whole bottle of wine too. We really enjoyed the meal and the trip outside of the tourist zone was a nice change of pace.
