Drawn in by the name, I spent four hours browsing…read morethe shelves, conversing with the owner, and reading in the various cozy chairs carefully places throughout the store. I was amazed by the owner, Dallas, who I overheard effortlessly engaging with customers throughout the morning--from specific titles to broad topics or just a vibe, Dallas knew where to direct them! She recommended a perfect book for me and for my nephews. Her knowledge and passion for books and pride in the store were evident in every conversation. Even the landlord was present and eager to share how far the building has come. Housed in a historic building that used to be a bank, the bookstore retains charming elements like the original safe, adding a unique touch to the atmosphere. Jack and Annie, the cleverly named resident parakeets, provided a delightful soundtrack of chirps to the browsing experience. Unsurprisingly, the decor features owls in every nook and cranny, and each room has cozy chairs inviting you to settle in with a good read. Burrowing Owl Books offers an impressive selection, from used and new books to puzzles, t-shirts, and bookish accessories--truly a one-stop shop for any reader. If you're passing through the Canyon area, I highly recommend stopping by this wonderful bookstore. You won't be disappointed!

We were first attracted to the glazed pots outside because they had such a nice collection of colors. Then we walked into the greenhouse and were greeted with the heavenly fragrance of petunias from the many hanging baskets above the rows of plants. It's one of those nurseries where you can find just about any kind of plant you've been looking for. All of the plants are beautiful specimens in tip-top condition. The greenhouse adjoins another greenhouse that is decked out with very luxurious patio furniture and decor and is followed by more rows of plants to the right and the main store entrance to the left. It's absolutely gorgeous in there! We sort of explored this business in a round about way, but eventually made it to the front section of the store which is a large room nicely decorated with antiques, collectibles, and melamine dishes... all for sale! This place is pricey, I would say twice the price of what you'd pay for a comparable product elsewhere, but it was such an unexpected gem we ran across while cruising the countryside that I think it's something everyone should explore when in the area. The menu is limited to I think eight or 10 items and when I saw the prices I thought well I'm gonna get this puny little cheeseburger. But no I got a really good large cheeseburger and fries. I was able to add my own lettuce tomato onion chili peppers. My only complaint with the place was I could not keep the tomatoes in my sandwich!! And after driving and walking around in the canyon for the rest of the afternoon we stopped back at the trading post and had some really good ice cream. I found succulents here that I've never seen anywhere, including at nurseries in southern California that I visit twice yearly. I have had the opportunity to buy it online, but I prefer to buy in person from quality nurseries. They have helpful photos with descriptions and directions for care posted above most of the plants. As we walked through the succulent greenhouse Tracy walked along with us offering helpful advice and taking our picks to the counter so we didn't have to carry them around. Afterward we went to the outdoor/perennial area where we were met by Val and she graciously offered us a guided tour through their lovely rock/cactus garden pointing out plants that are hardy for our growing zone.
