I was there again yesterday to buy some potting soil and they loaded 8 very large and heavy bags into my car (with a smile) and THEN - Jim, one of the owners came up to my car to shake my hand and introduce himself. This class is great because you also get a trip to the Kendall Yards Farmers Market where Jamie breaks down what's in season and an ideas for how to use various ingredients. You shop along with her as she picks out the main ingredients for the class and have time to shop yourself before getting started with the actual class back at the Kitchen Engine. Her classes and dishes are vegetarian and plant-based so you leave with nutritious and delicious recipes. My only disclaimer is that this class (and really any class) will be challenging for those with mobility issues. The walking involved at the market with this class and the bar stool seating for the 3-hr class was difficult for my father, who has mobility issues. That said, he has a blast. Just a callout so you know what to expect.

I had a folding buck knife that I had used in the military decades ago. It was lost in a box…read moresomewhere. When I found it, it was an awful shape. I sent it back to Buck knives and Post Falls, Idaho. I expected a hefty bill to bring it back to, at least partially, its former glory. The tip of the blade had been chipped off somewhere along the way. It was extremely dull. The brass was tarnished and almost looked like it had some sort of fungus growing on it. I could barely open the knife. The technician did an incredible job! The chip on the tip of the blade was fixed, the blade was sharpened, the brass and the wood were polished and the hinge lubricated Then they packed it extremely securely and sent it back to me. And, the total cost? $6.95! Crazy. I will never buy a knife from another company other than Buck in the future. They were so impressive!

But there's a HUGE selection of just about every, conceivable spice blend you'd want - from sausage seasonings, to brines, to jerky seasonings, bbq rubs, cures, hot sauces.... There's even a great selection of LEM meat processing equipment. I stocked up with a LOT of mixes I want to try (and refills of supplies I've been using). The two ladies running the store couldn't be any more friendly and helpful. They're well versed with what works well and how to achieve the best results you're wanting to get. They also offer samples of hot sauces. Prices are very reasonable, so there's going to be many more reasons for me to visit more often.
