On a recent visit, the kitchen did not even acknowledge they were out of flatbread; the cook just made the sandwich with sourdough bread -- no acknowledgement. It was a takeout order, so image my son's surprise when I presented his "flatbread " sandwich at home. Prices at Panera are going through the roof, and the service is going down. My pregnant wife came in today. Ordered at the kiosk and found a seat. She then proceeded to wait for 50 minutes, trying to get the attention of counter personnel to ask what was taking so long but being ignored by them. The line was to the door by this time. Finally, two sweet ladies who were next in line allowed her to talk to the person at the register so she could get her money back. Only bright spot was the manager was very apologetic and kind. Every time I go to this location something is wrong with my order!!!!! Today, an item I ordered that was available at the time I placed my order was no longer available when they filled my order. No one bothered to tell me my order was missing an item. No one bothered to refund my money for the item they did not have. My order for a bagel and cream cheese ended up being just the cream cheese. Lynchburgs newest Panera is a welcome sight at this location. Not many lunch places in the area. This Paneras has been packed the 3 times I've been there. Their sandwiches and salads are excellent and their pastries and other sweets are the taste! I think they should have made it a little bigger as I've seen people walking around, looking for seats. Other than that, it's a great place to sit with your friends or family, kick back, and relax. Can't wait till the spring so I can sit outside at the number of tables they have. This is the worst restaurant service I have ever received. I ordered a box of bagels and some coffee the night before to pick up on the way to a meeting. I paid online, and was supposed to have the ability to grab my order at 10:15am and go. I walked in and waited in line, which was already annoying. I asked several employees if there was an express line for those who had already ordered and paid for to go orders. Nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. The manager was on a cellular call sitting at the table, and I had to wait for him to be done before anyone could find my food or my order. It's what you would expect with a Panera as far as food. Was there on their opening day and multiple times since. While the employees are friendly and polite, I still feel like they don't have it together. Plenty of time for the kinks to have been worked out. I would recommend heading to Zoe's Kitchen (their opening day was incredibly smooth) unless you wanted breakfast items. The don't have iced coffee like the Wards Road location. read more

Excellent food. Drive-through servers are very polite but have too much "propaganda" to repeat...and how many times do I need to be asked if I'd like a drink (unfortunately, a national problem)? These, though, are minor annoyances. What I'd like the new Lynchburg store to consider is not skimping on the salad. Every time. I know a Greek salad is one of the cheapest options (at over five bucks), but when I open a box and see it barely half full, I get frustrated and seriously start thinking about heading for the Fresh Market nearby. They're expensive too, but at least you see what you get first. Come on, folks. Think like a marketer here. Salad is mostly air ... Why not put another scoop in? Panera Drive Thru a stand still. This morning I waited 4 minutes before acknowledgement and 11 minutes after placing an order for sweet tea and a muffin with butter. This is not an exception. This is the third or fourth time. The cashier at the window was seen prepping food with no gloves , opened the window and served sweet tea after asked for unsweetened. She forgot the butter as asked for, and no utensils in the bag. The tea was so hot it melted all the ice and I had to ask twice for sweetener and the tea was already sweet. Medical issues and after tasting tossed it. Can't do the sugar. Then , after looking in the bag to find no utensils or napkins and my muffins squashed into soup containers I then tossed all that too. If I would have only had time to go in . Sloppy , lazy , and very unprofessional behavior by the staff and management for allowing this to be a standard operating practice. This location had extremely slow service. Went today for breakfast. One person taking orders. I believe that the manager came to help on one order and then walked away. It then took another 15 minutes to make two breakfast sandwiches. It would have been longer but I complained. There were at least 4 or 5 people preparing orders but there was no organization. I don't frequent Panera often because of the prices versus other local places I'd rather support. However, I genuinely do like their food. I had some time to kill and decided to come to this location for breakfast. I got a breakfast sandwich that, perhaps naively, thought would be an entire sandwich. Nope - half of one for $5 (not the location's fault, I am sure its the chain in general). I will totally admit that it was delicious, but looking at it, I don't think it was quite worth the price paid at all as it wasn't even a big half. Then, I ordered a Caramel Latte (not a coffee fan) and, while I was in no way expecting the sweetness of Starbucks, it was bitter and I tasted no caramel in it whatsoever. That was another $5. For $10, which is a lot in my mind when I can get an entire meal somewhere for that, I was underwhelmed and still hungry. I have totally given up on this place. EACH time I order from this place, the orders are COMPLETELY incorrect. They whine because you're ordering from them. They whine because you request delivery, but they offer the delivery service. They even have an expedient communication service which allows auto-texting of confirmation, preparation, estimated delivery time-frame, and an email notification of when they arrive. If you're ordering from this location, and have the most unfortunate opportunity to be assigned a driver named Stephen, expect to wait 90 minutes, or he may not show up at all. He refuses to use the technology, so there is no way to track the order. There is only one delivery person named Allison who has actually arrived in a timely fashion, and for the first time EVER, the order was correct. If the ingredients are unavailable, or, if the representatives have managed to travel through time from the 17th century and do not understand the concept of arugula or ancient grains, they should not be working at the franchise. If they're too sleepy or "don't feel like delivering", they should stay at home and watch "My 600 pound life." If they are too sleepy, or "don't feel like delivering", they should not be employed and continue to suck up my tax dollars that I've been working for since 1975. I am sure they fare better than me because the government in Lynchburg, VA actually applauds laziness and expects me to pay for it. Their salaries are top notch and they even receive free cell phones, but yet have no concept of how to use the phone to text a customer that their deliveries are ready. The franchise has all of these cool menu options, but for some odd reason, my salad is always filled with unidentifiable objects. If you do not understand that arugula is, do not substitute the request with a street tweed. If you cannot read or speak the English language, contact Andy Serkis and ask him to transport you to the Planet of the Apes to dwell with the Simian race. Check out Koko the ape, I would highly advise you to employ her because she doesn't whine and complain. If you're going to whine, sniffle and complain because people are ordering food, you should shut the franchise down. If you don't want to deliver, terminate the service. In fact, every restaurant in this hick town should shut down because the food served is not fit for pigs. I would probably fare better eating pig slop than the trash I am eating now. I even give high tips to people who don't deserve it. The motto for Lynchburg is "We can't." I am so SICK AND TIRED of hearing "We can't." I love that we now have this location close to us. I love the salads, soups, and pretty much the entire menu. The store is always clean when we visit, and the employees are pleasant and polite. I want this store to succeed for selfish and non-selfish reasons. I believe the biggest challenge they have is to GET THE ORDERS ... ESPECIALLY THE SALAD ORDERS ... correct! Having to remake an order, or give away a free salad is not going to keep your business in the black when we have this occur one out of three times we order ... inside and with clear instructions on making sure they include the correct items. LAMINATE ALL SALAD INGREDIENTS ON A LARGE LAMINATED SIGN WITH A CHECKLIST THAT MUST BE CHECKED BEFORE THE SALAD IS RELEASED TO THE CUSTOMER. If other items need such a checklist, then laminate them too. TRAIN your people and follow up with unannounced pop quizzes on a random and reguar basis. For people who do not make the grade, give them homework! No kidding. If they do not comply, then write them up each time. Let everyone know this will be CONSISTENTLY and completey enforced. Basic leadership is wanting your people to succeed, respecting each other in a professional manner, and giving your team the TOOLS AND HELP they need. If leaders/owners/managers do not GENUINELY respect their customers and their customers satisfaction, then that attitude will contaminate all the staff. PLEASE improve.
