So we uplifted our plans for lunch and went there instead. It was nice and quiet compared to most Yum Chas, which was nice to begin with but we soon found out why there wasn't that many people there. I can't say that the food was bad, but I also can't say it was good either. It was just a little too strange for my liking. I think it's definitely down to the time of day we went there. It was quite late in the afternoon so they had probably had their lunch run and were just giving us what was left over. Never the less, it's good having a yum cha over on the shore to be there to instantly satisfy your yum cha cravings.

Not far from the beach in Browns Bay on the North Shore in Auckland is this nice little restaurant…read more/ bar. Upon entering i felt the decor and tables etc was nice, ample seating, the atmosphere felt good and i like the nice little touch of some blinds to seperate some tables from others. The blinds can be up or down. Upon sitting down the menu is brought quickly. Initially i ordered a Tsingtao and my other half a watermelon milk tea. Then after perusing the menu we settled on the little bit spicy tofu slice and needle mushrooms, sweetcorn on the skewer, lamb skewer, sliced pork wrapped with okra skewer, pig trotters, flatfish, chicken wing stuffed with rice. They did not take long to come out and once they were...the verdict? Delicious! All cooked very well. I particularly like the chicken stuffed with rice ( to be appreciated even more as it does take a bit of skill apparently to make this dish ) and the pig trotters. Washed down with the Tsingtao, a very good meal indeed. And to finish a small selection of sliced fruits. So, all in all, i would very much recommend here. For the food, they have a decent selection of drinks available, the service, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. If you're passing by heading North, heading South, spending time at the beach, or for somewhere different drive here from whereever you are it is worth it. Enjoy!

Having just come back from Chengdu and the flavours of their particular cuisine still " fresh " in my taste buds it was too much to walk past this place. Had to go in and try it out and see how it rates against the " real thing ". And we were not disappointed. Though a small place it felt welcoming as were the staff, and they have done the interior decor quite nicely too. Service was really good with the orders once taken , the food would come out quite quickly. We ended up ordering the steamed beef, of which I could have ate a lot more so delicious it was. Then came the steamed pork ribs which although small were as tasty as the last dish. The bigger dish of Loongs Special Beef Noodles ( I believe a " limited " edition so to speak? ) came next. Noodles and meatballs and other ingredients combined to make it yet another delicious dish. These guys were sure on their " A " game regarding everything thus far. We also ordered the steamed egg with pork mince. Enough said about the other dishes thus far....well this was well and truly on a par with them. Well I think I've said enough . Here you can have hotpot , coldpot , just dishes or BBQ. You choose. The kiwifruit juice is delicious. You have to try if you ever go. Staff are quick to serve and very friendly , cheerful and you will often see the owner running around helping. Which is always a good thing to see .And the place itself is really clean. They have a system where if you register and dine there enough and accumulate $500 of spending you will then receive 5% off the next times you return. Can barely fault the restaurant which is why I gave it a 5. Enough said. Try it yourself if passing and you won't regret it.

It is kinda stuck away on the edge of an industrial area of Auckland's north shore and if you aren't familiar with the area may be a little hard to find at first. Every time we come is busy , even on Monday night's which tells you a lot about a place, yes? Amongst all the dishes have tasted in the time we have been a recent one has stood out as the best and most delicious we have had. It is the fish cooked in soy sauce, tofu and fried corncake ( 贴饼子炖鱼 ). Outstanding and worth getting the odd little fish bone stuck annoyingly between the teeth. It has since we first tried the one on Dominion Rd been a favourite of ours though at times it feels a little on the expensive side . And this one lived up to all our expectations. Being new it was clean, service was good , the food and drinks too. Just what we wanted. Amongst what we had was the original toast , and for the first time ever it came with cream. No problem !!! It made a tasty combination. You can order online for takeaway and if you order 11 times then the 12th is free. Good deal!!!Overall well worth the visit especially if you have experienced the other branches. Enjoy!!!

Yet another small restaurant has opened up in this small newly developed area in Albany on the…read morenorth shore. Looks like there is hardly anymore room for anymore in the row as already quite a few have filled vacant shops. This one is a Chinese BBQ style place where a neat little device rotates the meat on skewers via a chain and little cogs attached to the skewers. The place is decked out Chairman Mao style...pictures, writing and the likes of old tin mugs with his picture and the characters whose English meaning means " I do , you relax ". The beer, if you have one , is also drunk out of these mugs. Something different. There is a good choice on the menu, though in the end it may work out a little expensive. But is definitely good food. Overall the service is good, food good though a bit pricey . Make sure you make a reservation as we were told , and looking at the custom when we there you definitely should. Enjoy!!!.
