I was like a kid in a Candy shop. I do crafting with a lot of IOD products and recycle whatever I can get my hands on. When I walked in Pancakes from Heaven, I felt like I was in a crafting heaven. It was neat and organized and the prices were really low. I've been so disappointed in the thrift stores in the suburbs of Chicago because they've really raised their prices. Owner kicked us out after we looked through clothes with intent to buy them and claimed we were there for hours even though we were there for less than half an hour. If you're able to handle someone who won't respect you the place's prices were dead cheap. read more

We've been summer residents in the Eagle River area for 20 years and have shopped at this store many times in the past. But it's gone way downhill in recent years and my experience today guarantees that I'll never go in there again. I asked the guy behind the counter (presumably the owner) if I could plug in a small appliance to see it it worked and he immediately became hostile and said he didn't want to sell it to me. I returned it to the shelf, along with about $20 worth of stuff that my wife was intending to buy and started to leave telling him I won't ever shop there again. He swore at us while his partner showed up to tell us "don't let the door hit you in the ass". I turned around to ask the first guy what he said but he pulled a big club out from behind the counter and threatened to use it if I stepped back in. My wife and I are in our '70s and I'm disabled so I guess it makes these losers feel like big tough guys to abuse their customers like that. If you don't mind shopping at a filthy junk shop with an owner who acts like an out of control asshole, this is the place for you. Otherwise, there are other resale and antique stores in the area that, I am sure, would welcome your patronage. read more

Based on the the reviews I wasn't to sure of this place. Me and my family were in eagle river for vacation and me and my twin were looking for thrift stores to get beanie boos at. We saw this one and wanted to try it to see if the reviews were true. We looked for around 30 mins - 1 hr trying to find this place and we didn't. Eventually we found it and we were on the way, my cousin called the store to ask if the reviews were true and he called my 12 year old cousin a bitch and and said other swear words on the phone, horrible attitude and the store was kinda creepy it's self I felt uncomfortable the whole time there. We did find a beanie boo but the whole experience was very bad. read more

It is such a shame. The guy that runs this little shop is the grumpiest most irritable person. I've watched him yell at other customers and today. It was my turn. A customer brought a donation of some glasses. I just so happen to be there with my items for purchase, and when I expressed interest in buying them from him. Something someone literally had just donated. He yelled at me told me they were not for sale and then yelled at the woman who dropped them off for dropping things off during business hours in front of other people. When I said I was offended his response, he told me that's fine get out and don't ever come back. Not a problem. Been here for years and I've honestly cringed when I've seen him interact with other people but try not to judge. I have all the information now, so I feel like it's OK if I do. He's a jerk and it's not worth going into this place. He obviously has the right to not sell things, but there's no reason to yell at people or chase them away. With a name like Pancakes in Heaven, you would think the people working there would be friendly. We hadn't walked two steps into this store when the shopkeeper scowled at us. Regardless, my husband greeted him, and without so much as a welcome response, the shop keeper barked at our three year old, "No running in this store, dude. There's too much glass." I wanted to leave right there and then, but my son and husband seemed okay, so I didn't let the shopkeeper's disgruntled demeanor go to my head. I began to look around when my husband told me that they were going to wait outside. Apparently, the shopkeeper's attitude caused my son feel unwelcome and he wanted to go home. I decided to follow. The shopkeeper told me on my way out to, "Take care of your f@&$ing kids or stay home." I was shocked. My husband told him, "We're never going to shop here again." I told him he was a male's genitalia-head. We were already out the door when he threatened to call the police. For what, shopkeeper? Having kids? I gave him my best middle finger. Don't shop here unless you want to support a culture of ignorant and rude businesses with jacked up prices. There are plenty other stores to explore and support in Eagle River where the shopkeepers are pleasant and family friendly. read more

We needed some wine glasses for a dinner party while staying in Long Lake and found this gem of a store. They had just what we needed and the customer service was excellent. Very friendly owner and great dog Lucy to help bring a warm feeling to the shop. Great story about the name! read more

We are moving and had a lot of donations.....boxes and bags and even furniture. The owner was so accommodating and helpful and eager to have our things. If he is the same owner described in other reviews it's hard to believe because this man was so nice, friendly and up beat. While dropping off our stuff I caught a glimpse of his pricing and it was really good and reasonable! I'd recommend this place highly. It's fair and actually generous and the owner seems to enjoy making sure these material things are reused and appreciated. read more

I don't know what the hag from Maryland was smoking but my wife and I stopped at Pancakes from Heaven yesterday and the experience was completely opposite. The manager/owner could not have been friendlier. We're full time Northwoods residents and have been for many years so we know what daily life is like here. And unlike most of the snooty shopkeepers we endure in this tourist-plagued region, he went out of his way to be helpful. As for thrift stores, there is a dearth of them here in northern Wisconsin and most are terrible. Not only was Pancakes in Heaven atypical for thrift stores not only in this area but we travel throughout the country haunting many thrift stores and believe "Pancakes" to be one of the best. The prices are great...what you USED TO expect at thrift stores, reasonable and cheap. Goodwill is a greedy joke and masquerades as a charity thrift store. St. Mathias in Minocqua is where one goes to buy overpriced leisure suits and copies of Windows 95 and their so-called "man's corner" consists of unusable pieces broken off of a screen door and rusty garden trowels. We stumbled upon Pancakes in Heaven by accident and are so glad we decided to see what it was because we'll make it a regular stop. Unlike many (most) thrift stores, the items are all categorized in sections of many rooms. Some thrift stores mix their kitchen stuff with automotive stuff and that's pure laziness. Not so at Pancakes in Heaven. And it's a darned interesting assortment of things spread throughout its many interconnecting buildings! We spent forty bucks and filled our trunk. And the congenial manager conceded that his inventory was down because donations drop during winter! Wow. I'm sure that last summer, when his inventory was up, the locusts from Chicago swarmed in, bought up the good stuff and took it back to their own thrift stores in the suburbs and quadrupled the prices. Getting back to that woman from Maryland and her "child of the damned", we put up all too much with obnoxious kids who are allowed to spin out of control by their myopic parents. I doubt highly it happened the way the Maryland woman said it did and the bigger issue is why can't her and her ineffective husband restrain and draw boundaries instead of unleashing their evil spawn on the rest of us? Pay no attention to her review. She's just a bitter woman who feels the world revolves around her kid. read more
