We have been stopping at panadería lemy for over 17 years, the bread and their quesitos are the best! We have to fill our luggage with them to bring the comfort of home to Kansas City! This time part of my family order lunch which was delicious and the sandwiches in pan sobao of course! The serve big portions so have that in mind when you order. The services was nice but it was a little chaotic as there was many employees there but not very well organized I got skip in the line couple times and we were needing to check on our coffee as we were waiting for it for over 10 minutes,that's the only opportunity I saw during this visit! We drove 20 mins to have a real Puerto Rican breakfast like we've had many times. We were explaining what we wanted and seemed the girl didn't understand us even though we spoke Spanish. She grabbed another woman who was incredibly rude and again we explained what we wanted and it seemed she understood but by the time the order came out 30 mins later it was completely wrong. One order I asked for eggs and bacon and NO BREAD as that person is gluten free. I repeated it multiple times no bread. The order came out with bread. Many of them were on the phone, so coffee orders were also just whatever they wanted to give you. Next time we'll just go to McDonalds and get the sandwiches we wanted with ease and faster. read more

This place was everything and more when my partner and I went for the first time. We were vacationing back to the island and wanted fresh baked goods the moment we woke up. Lemy was the place; now when you see a place with the line outside the door you know you're going to get one of everything from the menu. Came for the famous pan sabao. I remember having them when I young in NYC bodega sandwiches so I was excited to try it right from the source in PR.We heard Lemy was voted the best bakery on the island. The sabao: It was very good. I personally enjoyed it because it reminds me of Jamaican coco bread. Some may not like how sweet, dense and doughy it is. The texture is almost like it's intentionally undercooked. The empanadas: Probably the worst I've had in my life. But they're not too bad if you're starving, it's just that I am used to much better empanadas. The beef and chicken fillings were super dry and there wasn't much meat. After two bites you've gotten through the meat, and you're left to eat just the empanada crust which has no seasoning. This was walking distance from our air bnb. They didn't really greet us walking in nor did they speak any English which wasn't their fault. But the empanadas were amazing, one of the donuts were hard but delicious and the other was super soft. You did need a mask to enter as well. Definitely stopping by for another empanada. read more

Let me start by saying that I always get my bread here when I come for vacations. I personally order to go because It is a really busy place and I dont like eating with people standing waiting for their food, but it is worth it. My mom loves it. My husband loves their sorullitos, I dont really but my main thing is the bread. That's what I always come for. Oh! And their coffee is great too! So nice; we had it twice! Our local friend told us about Lemy's sweet bread. The bread that somehow stays soft for days on end--I guess it's really well-known for it! It's sweet, and is very similar to King's Hawaiian bread but moister. When we met up with a local friend, he even had a few loaves for us to enjoy for the car ride. Who needs Kind bars when you can have this instead? Savory food like empandillas run out in the evening so get there earlier in the day. When we went back a second time, I had the chicken empandilla (empanada) which was pretty good, and a decent-size. Unfortunately, I tried their relleno, which I figured would be a vegetarian softball of potatoiness but I was wrong in that there was a mystery meat in it that tasted...fishy. Coffee drinkers rejoice! You can get an actual big cup of coffee here (16 oz) instead of the leprechaun serving common in PR. I find it funny that on a green lush island, every to-go beverage is served in styrofoam cups: where does all the styrofoam go?? If you don't specify how you want your coffee, it will come our Puertorrian-style, which is shots of coffee with a ton of milk. We tested that bread too. On our way to Arecibo some locals suggested we stop by this bakery for breakfast. Just like other locations parking is limited. Once inside there was a considerable line to place our order. We waited about 15 minutes to order our food and another 15 waiting for the items. We had a Mallorca breakfast sandwich and some pastries. I only speak very little Spanish, but the staff was patient and accommodating, especially as we generally eat vegetarian outside of the home. They even made a custom dish for us! Food: Donuts: all were good, particular stand outs were cream filled and chocolate glaze Coffee: I love cafe con leche! And it was particularly good here. Eggs: very good eggs. It was my first time visiting this place and I was not disappointed. I'm Puerto Rican living in NY so you know that when I visit the island I make sure that I get my Puerto Rican treats. It gets crowded so make sure you get there with plenty of time. Before heading to the airport I stopped and got me some pan sobao, Mallorca bread, bread pudding and pastelillos de guayaba. Everything was to die for. My adult children are not familiar with authentic Puerto Rican pastries and they loved it too. The place also serves food and sandwiches. Fantastic place for the classic "pan sobao". Anytime we pass by the neighborhood we have to get the famous sweet bread. You can never stop eating after the first bite. Their bread is always made daily because of how busy it always is. You can sit down and butter it and it'll melt with out needing to toast the bread. Always soft, never stale. And their deserts are fantastic always made with good quality. My favorites are the flan and tembleque. (A type of coconut custard.) It's in a small town called Levittown, quite off the touristic area. But definitely worth the drive or detour for simple taste of Puerto Rico. I know my bread. I grew up in Levittown, and this place was like 4 minutes away from my house. I grew up eating their pan sobao, which is one of my favorites. Now that I live in the States, I barely get to eat it anymore. So for a party I am having I decided to use their online ordering system to get some bread, quesitos and pastelillitos de guayaba. The order was $100, of which $40 was just shipping. I figured it was worth a it, plus I would be supporting a local business in my hometown. I ordered on a Wednesday and on Monday I called because I wanted to know if they had read my note saying that I wanted them either on Thursday or Friday of the week of the party (party is Saturday), so that they would be fresh. Well, it seems like the note section is just a waste of space, because they just prepare the order as soon as they receive it. So I got the products 4 days before the party, which means they have been prepared for at least a week before the party, which sucks because you don't know how fresh these things are. On top of that, I talked to 3 different people when I called, all of which were rude, no sense of customer service, or how to answer a phone with a customer on the other line. Anyways, I got the stuff Wednesday, and these products came with absolutely no bubble wrap. The boxes didn't even say FRAGILE on the outside. Who in their right mind would send "pastelillos de guayaba" in a box without bubble wrap? Why did I even pay $40 worth of shipping for? Needless to say the pastelillos de guayaba were completely broken when they arrived. It looked like a hot mess. The quesitos also looked bad, but at least they were still whole. Unfortunately, they barely had any cheese inside. The only thing they did good was that everything on my order was sent, and the pan sobao was squished, but not too bad. For their sake, I hope they get better at customer service, and at sending stuff in the mail. Pretty disappointing. read more
